Fishface | 19005 comments 8/20 is the anniversary of the day Richele Lee Bear vanished. Cold North Killers: Canadian Serial Murder attributes her death to Clayton Eichier.

Dr. Cream did away with Mary Ann Faulkner. See I am Jack The...: A Biography of One Scotland's Most Notorious Killers - Thomas Neill Cream.
Mark Hatcher and his cousin Mary Booher lost their lives to the inappropriately-named Fernando Eros Caro Jr. Two other intended victims, Jack Lucchesi and Rick Donner, escaped with their lives. See https://www.mercurynews.com/2017/01/3...
Joe Beeson was murdered in prison, which seems fair. See Raising Hell: An Encyclopedia of Devil Worship and Satanic Crime.
Christopher Williams was added to Randy Kraft's list of murders with the notation "HOLLYWOOD BUS." See Angel of Darkness: The True Story of Randy Kraft and the Most Heinous Murder Spree.
This is the day a hunter found the remains of Diane Cuzsak, Joyvaline Martinez, and Mary Jane Menard where Devin Howell had left them. See His Garden: Conversations With A Serial Killer.

(L to R, Diane, Joy, Mary Jane)
Lisa Slusser, aged 12, was killed more or less on this day in 1977. Not one, but two homeless drifters confessed to killing her. Henry Lee Lucas's confession sort of crapped out, but Gary Kerpan's included details of the crime scene that only the killer would have known. See http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct...

Fishface | 19005 comments 8/21 is the day Antonio LoBianco and Barbara Locci died at the hands of a man who has never been adjudicated for it. See The Monster of Florence.

Ralph Dixon and Crystal Knight both died at the hands of Milton Johnson, who was eventually caught and punished, See 50 American Serial Killers You've Probably Never Heard Of: Volume 2.
Anna Kuchta died as a result of a brutal beating with a heavy object. See The Brick Slayer.

We lost Paula Fabrizius to serial killer Francis Nemechek. See 50 American Serial Killers You've Probably Never Heard Of: Volume 3.

Lee Allen Bonneau, aged 6, died out of nowhere at the hands of a 10-year-old not named in the Canadian papers. See https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...

Felix WAYNE Mitchell came a cropper. See https://gangsterreport.com/bloody-aug...

And, in the "boo frikkin' hoo" department, this is the day in 1614 that someone discovered Erszebet Bathory had died in her bedroom -- which had been walled up and made into a prison for her, not for the dozens or hundreds of young servant girls she'd killed, but because her family disapproved of the way she handled her finances. See Dracula Was a Woman: In Search of the Blood Countess of Transylvania.

AND it's the day in 2014, 6 years ago now that Bob Hansen croaked in prison. I wonder at times how the kids' mom explained that, or any of their father's exploits. See Butcher, Baker: A True Account of a Serial Murder.

But there is one happy anniversary from today: Olga Mantel escaped Peter Kurten with her life. See Monsters of Weimar: The Stories of Fritz Haarmann and Peter Kurten.

Fishface | 19005 comments 8/22 is the anniversary of the day we lost Elaine O'Hara to Graham Dwyer. Originally thought to be a suicide, the handcuffs and ball gag found at the death scene got the police thinking there might be more to it. See True Crime Case Histories - (Books 1, 2 & 3): 32 Disturbing True Crime Stories.

(Elaine shown with her killer)
Margaret Finner lost her life to brutal killer Michael Ross. See Torture Killers.
Nancy Clark vanished from human ken. Evidence found at the Pickton farm later answered the question of what had become of her. See The Pig Farm Murders.

Sarah Paulsen was raped and murdered by serial killer Eugene Britt. See Notorious 92: Indiana's Most Heinous Murders in All 92 Counties.

(this is the only victim of this man I have been able to find a photo of so far)
Alma Henry was raped and strangled with her brassiere. For details of the criminal investigations into 2 different men who could have done it, see https://murderpedia.org/male.M/m/mill...

But the news isn't all bad today. Alma Goldhausen and Gustav Kornblum escaped Peter Kurten alive! See Monsters of Weimar: The Stories of Fritz Haarmann and Peter Kurten.
And David Cram escaped John WAYNE Gacy with his life. See Buried Dreams: Inside the Mind of a Serial Killer.

Fishface | 19005 comments 8/23 is the day An Marschal and Eefje Lambrecks were lost to us. This was a really bad one, even as child murders go. See Marc Dutroux: Le Dossier.

Russell Nelson killed the unlucky Doris Brown on approximately this day. See Cold North Killers: Canadian Serial Murder.
A woman we know only as "Betty the Bag Lady" was found outside New Buffalo, Michigan. They called her that because she was in a plastic garbage bag. See https://www.woodtv.com/news/target-8/...

Ricky Stetson was found dead. See A Need to Kill: The True-Crime Account of John Joubert, Nebraska's Most Notorious Serial Child Killer.

Tammy Zywicki lost her life to Bruce Mendenhall. See Killer on the Road: Violence and the American Interstate.

Fishface | 19005 comments 8/24 is the anniversary of the day a Herbert B. was killed by his nurse -- you guessed it -- good old Niels Hoegel. See Serial Killer Nurse.
Charlotte Grabbe met a particularly hideous end. She was strangled and sodomized, all her body openings were packed with auto lube, and she was set on fire. This all came out years after she disappeared, when the woman her husband killed Charlotte over couldn't keep it to herself any longer. See https://forensicfilesnow.com/index.ph...

G.M. Chervyakov died at the hands of Alexander Pichushkin. See Born to Kill in the USSR.
John Brooks took Wilbert Johnson from us. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.
Kevin Carter killed Erin McKenzie. She was only 7, but he wasn't even really that much older than she was. See Notorious 92: Indiana's Most Heinous Murders in All 92 Counties.

We also lost Fanny Adams. A search began right away when she didn't come home with her friends. It was already far too late. See Sweet FA: The True Story Of Sweet Fanny Adams.

Fritz Haarmann killed Hienrich Struss. See Monsters of Weimar: The Stories of Fritz Haarmann and Peter Kurten.
Sterling Hall at the University of Wisconsin, home of the Army Math Research Center, was bombed in the middle of the night on this date in 1970. Robert Fassnacht was killed in the fracas. Three others working late that night escaped with their lives. See Rads: The 1970 Bombing of the Army Math Research Center at the University of Wisconsin and Its Aftermath.

We lost Betty Sue McConnell to Terry Hyatt. See https://mycrimelibrary.com/terry-hyat...

Stella Williamson died on this day, leaving instructions explaining where to find her 5 murdered newborns. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers: Volume 1.
WAYNE Salyers Sr. had his wages paid by WAYNE Salyers, Jr. See Notorious 92: Indiana's Most Heinous Murders in All 92 Counties.
Anna Johnson lost her life to serial killer Milton Johnson. The matching surnames appear to have been a coincidence. See 50 American Serial Killers You've Probably Never Heard Of: Volume 2.

In the weirdest anniversary of the day, Dayton Rogers stabbed his girlfriend, proposed marriage to her, and only then drove her to a hospital to get the stabbing dealt with. One can only imagine what she made of all this. The title of the book on this guy, Blood Lust: Portrait of a Serial Sex Killer, just gained a new layer of meaning for me...

This is also the day Jocelyn Martel escaped Jeffrey Mailhot with her life. Not everyone was that lucky. See Ripper.

Fishface | 19005 comments 8/26 was the first day of Anthony Arkwright's killing spree. A man Gary Krist had killed for no particular reason was found on this day. To my knowledge he has never been identified. See Life: The Man Who Kidnapped Barbara Mackle.

William Freeman died violently. See Innocent Blood: A true story of obsession and serial murder.

Fishface | 19005 comments 8/28 is the anniversary of the day Niels Hogel killed a man identified in the papers only as Peter E. See Serial Killer Nurse.
Anthony Arkwright, not done yet, went over to Marcus Law's place. They got into a dispute over a pack of cigs. He dragged Marcus out of his wheelchair, stabbed him 70 times, gouged his eyes out, thrust a crutch through his body, and stuck cigarettes into every opening he could find. And of course the killer had just made 70 new openings. See https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/5754437...

Dawn Smith vanished. She would be found dead months later and her killer, David Wood, was found after a much longer wait. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers: Volume 1 under "Missing."

We lost Gabriel Kovari to a serial killer belonging to one of the rarest subcategories of all: celebrity chef. See https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-45407465
Sandra Delaware was found dead. Even for a murder victim she was in frightful condition. See Deadly Thrills: The True Story of Chicago's Most Shocking Killers.
We lost Emily Adkins Moyer to a couple of mopes named James Russell Odom and James Clayton Lawson. See https://www.ncjrs.gov/pdffiles1/Digit...

And at a time when it seems like there is a demonstration on every streetcorner about racial injustice, it bears repeating that this is the day in 1955 that we lost Emmett Till to a lynch mob, for the capital crime of (maybe) whistling at a white woman. His devastated mother, Mamie Till-Mobley, used the 1955 equivalent of the viral online video -- an open-casket funeral open to the public -- to light a fire under the heap of tinder we now know as the civil rights movement. See Death of Innocence: The Story of the Hate Crime That Changed America.

Natasha Montgomery lost her life as well. See The Country Boy Killer: The True Story of Cody Legebokoff, Canada's Teenage Serial Killer.

This is the 132nd anniversary of the day Charles Cross found Polly Nichols dead at the hands of Jack the Ripper. Her throat had been slit down to the vertebrae and she had been disemboweled. See Jack the Ripper: The Story of the Whitechapel Murderer.

Fishface | 19005 comments 9/2 is the anniversary of the day Shawn Moore was snatched off his bike at a convenience store a short distance from where I live now. Hi Fishface, regarding the Nichols murder in Whitechapel, Charles Cross did discover her body at 3:40 am. A passerby, Robert Paul, came upon him and the two men were bewildered as to her fate. They stated later that, due to the darkness of the disregarded district, they could not see the extent of her injuries. Cross and Paul decided to continue on but alert the first policeman they encountered. Just after they left the scene, PC Neil approached the site from a different corner and found her.

Harry Gordon was executed for his crimes. You can read about some of his exploits in The Laughing Gorilla: A True Story of Police Corruption and Murder.

Ricky Brogsdale did away with Myers Jackson. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.
Paul Durousseau did away with Tracy Habersham, who had never done anything to him, that's for sure. See 50 American Serial Killers You've Probably Never Heard Of: Volume 5.

David Spanbauer did terrible things to Cora Jones that could never be taken back. See 50 American Serial Killers You've Probably Never Heard Of: Volume 6.

There were also two lucky escapes today:

Ford being hustled into a car to give him some cover

And this is the day they hanged Carl Panzram. His last words were "Hurry it up, you Hoosier b@stard! I could kill a dozen men while you're screwing around!" See Killer: A Journal of Murder.

In a related story, Amanda Molake and Margaret Ntombeni were found dead today. Fishface | 19005 comments 9/11 is the anniversary of the time 2,793 Americans died, all on the same day, due to a remarkably well-thought-out series of terrorist attacks. That used to sound like such a huge number, but with nearly 200,000 dead of a new virus since March and over 1,000 people dying daily right now, well, it seems less overwhelming. Or maybe I should say it makes the Coronavirus sound more overwhelming. See The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11.

We lost Jimmy Ryce to a pervert. See Sun Struck: 16 Infamous Murders in the Sunshine State.

Constance Dickey died untimely. See Cold North Killers: Canadian Serial Murder.

Fishface | 19005 comments 9/16 is the day Kimberly King vanished from human ken. Larry Eyler did terrible things to Eric Hansen on this day in 1983. He would be found -- I should say some of him would be found -- on Oct. 4th. See Freed to Kill: The True Story of Larry Eyler.

Jennifer Asbenson was somewhat luckier, getting away alive from Andrew Urdiales by the narrowest of margins. She was so traumatized that she spent the next several months in a psych hospital. See her tell the whole story here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBu8Q...
Mike Boniface died at the hands of his prospective son-in-law, who went by Billie Boy but whose name has come down to us in history, as you can see in this book title, as Willie Boy: A Desert Manhunt.

Fishface | 19005 comments 9/28 is the anniversary of the untimely death of Elizabeth Perryman. See Death Roads: The Story of the Donut Shop Murders.
Niels Hoegel, still seeking a cheap thrill, killed Heinfried B. on this day in 2003. It was the anniversary of the day in 2001 that he'd killed Adolf H. See Serial Killer Nurse.
Marci Bachman, known in Missoula, Montana only as "Robin" and then later as "Debbie Deer Creek," vanished on this day at the hands of her live-in boyfriend, WAYNE Nance, who resented her desire to leave him and move on with her life. Marci and WAYNE
Barbara Rawlinson died untimely. See The Sex Killers.
So did Loretta Jean Davis. See https://www.times-gazette.com/news/20...

Marcia and Elizabeth Honsch were killed under circumstances that took 20 years to clear up. See His Garden: Conversations With A Serial Killer.

Fishface | 19005 comments 9/29 is the sorry anniversary of the unsolved Tylenol Murders. Incredibly, it's already been 38 years. See TYLENOL MAN: A 30-Year Quest to Close the Tylenol Murders Case.

Wuane Wilken was murdered by her father Stewart because he thought she was being sexually assaulted and he wanted to protect her. To go on protecting her, he slept with her remains for weeks. That guy had serious, serious issues. Poor Wuane! See Serial Killers : Stewart Wilken.
Donna Serra -- a 17-year-old from my old stomping ground, St. Clair Shores, Michigan -- was murdered in a case that remains unsolved. See https://divaboi69.livejournal.com/802...

Cody Myers, whose name sounded kind of Jewish to Holly Grigsby and her boyfriend Joey Pedersen, became their next victim. It's already been 9 years since he died, for no other reason than racist stupidity. See Holly Ann Grigsby & Other Killers: An anthology of True Crime.

Mary Vincent survived an attack by Larry Singleton, by an incredibly narrow margin. If she hadn't landed facedown in the mud with the stumps of her arms underneath her -- he had chopped her hands off with a hatchet to prevent identification of what he assumed would be her dead body -- she would be dead now. See The Mad Chopper: How the Justice System Let a Mutilator Free, This Time to Kill.

Mark Smith killed Gabriele Rader. See Legally Sane.

Jonathan Claasen was found where Norman Simons had left him, hurriedly buried facedown, with his pants lowered and his hands tied. See Catch Me a Killer: Serial Murders: A Profiler's True Story.

And happy birthday, Fred West! See An Evil Love: The Life of Frederick West.

Fishface | 19005 comments 9/30 is always a huge day for crime anniversaries. As in, huge:

Katherine and Joseph Weinman became the latest victims of Edward Surratt. See Rise of the Black Serial Killer: Documenting a Startling Trend.
Filllippo Tenerelli died. Depending on who you ask, he may be a victim of the Manson Family. Or not. See https://www.oxygen.com/manson-the-wom...
Isoleta Boniface, Mike's daughter, died. The guys in the posse hunting the man she was travelling with, Billie Boy, say he killed her, which really makes no sense. He had already gone to a great deal of trouble to make her his wife and that hadn't happened yet. See Willie Boy: A Desert Manhunt, which suggests that the posse trying to rescue her from his clutches killed her by accident. It's definitely possible, am I right? But all the people who might be able to tell you for sure are dead, deader, deadest.

Richard Crosby was added to Randy Kraft's scorecard with the notation "TORRANCE." See Angel of Darkness: The True Story of Randy Kraft and the Most Heinous Murder Spree.

Hayna De Kaplany died after a month-long struggle to survive in a hospital. Her husband of 5 weeks had slashed her face, breasts and crotch with a knife and poured acid into the wounds so nobody else would ever want her. He was already convinced she was cheating on him. See The Acid Test: The Trial of Dr. De Kaplany.
Jill Troia died under what may have been even crueler circumstances at the hands of David Parker Ray. See Cries in the Desert.

Teresa Sunder was found dead at the hands of Fernando Cota. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.
Virginia Cacioppo was killed for use in the manufacture of soap and teacakes. See https://dirkdeklein.net/2016/08/23/le...

Frank Kasper and Kitty Werner went to the wrong Lover's Lane to be alone. Clarence Hill found them and killed them. See 50 American Serial Killers You've Probably Never Heard Of: Volume 3.
This is the anniversary of the "double event," maybe the first gruesome twosome by a serial killer ever to make the headlines. Of course I, personally, doubt that Elizabeth Stride was a Ripper victim, but that could just be me. See They All Love Jack: Busting the Ripper.

(Kate Eddowes was definitely a Ripper victim)

(maybe, Liz, possibly)
Michael Player killed Christopher Boyle and Leon Gaines. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.

This is not even half the crime anniversaries I have written down for this day. But it seems pretty fitting that this is Truman Capote's birthday. He invented the nonfiction novel -- an entirely new invention -- using what has become a very famous crime. See In Cold Blood.

If he hadn't drunk himself to death in 1984 he would have been 96 today.

Fishface | 19005 comments 10/1 is the anniversary of the day Sonny Russell successfully fought off Allen Legere. Good on him! See Cold North Killers: Canadian Serial Murder.
Similarly, a Goleta couple managed to fight off the Original Night Stalker, now known to be J.J. DeAngelo. See I'll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman's Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer.
A woman escaped Warren Forrest with her life. She was luckier than some others I can think of. See https://www.clarkcountytoday.com/news...

But the news isn't all good today.
A John Doe victim of Norman Simons was found. See https://truecrimesouthafrica.com/blog...
Tim Ordzyk and James Dieter were killed. It was originally thought to be an accident, but...See Deadmonton: Crime Stories from Canada's Murder City.

We lost Mary Castro to the depredations of John Pastano. See Duel with the Devil: The True Story of How Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr Teamed Up to Take on America's First Sensational Murder Mystery.
Sandra Horwath vanished while her children were sleeping. They woke up in Ann Arbor, Michigan to find her gone. She never showed up to work that day at University Hospital, either. Gary Taylor is a possible suspect, but until someone finds her...? See https://www.websleuths.com/forums/thr...
This is the approximate day in 1969 that Pee Wee Gaskins killed a girl he knew only as Daisy, and more or less the day in 1973 that he killed Jackie Freeman. Jackie is the one who always stays in my mind after reading about her in Final Truth: The Autobiography of Mass Murderer/Serial Killer Donald "Pee Wee" Gaskins. I can't imagine what it's like to watch a guy cook and eat some of you while you're still alive.

(Pee Wee taking law enforcement on the grand tour)
