Fishface | 19004 comments 5/17 is the day in 1924 that two kids found a skull by the river where they were playing, breaking the Haarmann case for the Hanover police. It was high time; by this point he was killing up to 2 people a day. See Monsters of Weimar: The Stories of Fritz Haarmann and Peter Kurten.
This is the last day anyone saw Ray Muchache alive. See Twenty-Five Murders (and Probably More): Looking for a Reason: The Juan Corona Trials and Confessions.

This is the day we lost James Milliken for stupid reasons. See Deadmonton: Crime Stories from Canada's Murder City.

(April Milliken showing a photo of her brother James and his baby son)
This is the day they found "Tent Girl." That would be the only name they had for her for many years to come. See https://www.huffpost.com/entry/a-body...

(we now know her as Bobbie Taylor)
Joey Pichirallo died a hideous death. See Torture Killers II.
Jodi Samuel was killed completely out of nowhere. See https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-x...

Fishface | 19004 comments 5/18 is the day Larry Eyler killed Richard Bruce, who had certainly never done anything to Larry. See The Highwayman:: Larry Eyler, the Hoosier Highway Killer.
Someone burned Cheryl Lynn Black alive. Edmonton police are waiting for your call. See Deadmonton: Crime Stories from Canada's Murder City.

This is the day federal agents burst into Herbert Coddington's trailer, freeing Alecia Thoma and Monica Berge so they wouldn't have to be in that place with their murdered chaperones one minute longer. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.
Aileen Wuornos killed David Spears. See Monster: My True Story.

Eric Middlebrooks died for no good reason on this earth. See The Atlanta Child Murders: The Night Stalker.

Roger Ailes croaked on this day 3 years ago. Sob!

And now for one of my very favorite true crime anniversaries. This is the day Joseph Roth, a personal hero of mine, bought 21 pieces of irreplaceable artwork by John WAYNE Gacy -- to make into a bonfire. Long may he wave:

(This photo shows Harold Piest, father of Gacy's last victim, adding an example of the killer's lousy artwork to the bonfire)

Not all heroes wear capes.

Fishface | 19004 comments 5/19 is once again the anniversary of the day that Goro Kagehiro noticed an unauthorized hole dug in the peach orchard where he was working. He came back later and found it had been filled in. That was the last straw and he went and got a shovel. A few feet down he found Kenny Whitacre. RIP Kenny. See The Road to Yuba City: A Journey into the Juan Corona Murders.

This is the day the Weathermen bombed the Pentagon. Always up to something, those Weathermen. See The Pentagon: A History.
Officer Ronald West killed Helen Ferguson, who deserved better. See https://www.caledonenterprise.com/new...
Mary Jo Buttafuoco survived a bullet in the head. See Getting it Through My Thick Skull: Why I Stayed, What I Learned, and What Millions of People Involved With Sociopaths Need to Know.

Colleen Stan was kidnapped by a man named Cameron Hooker. Her problems were just beginning at that point. See Perfect Victim: The True Story of "The Girl in the Box".
Cherie, Christie and Danny Down were shot where they were sleeping in the back of their mother's car. Cherie did not survive. Christie and Danny were eventually adopted by the man who prosecuted their killer. See Small Sacrifices.
Sheila Comeaux died of injuries sustained much earlier in a terrible beating. See Jeff Davis 8: The True Story Behind the Unsolved Murder That Allegedly Inspired True Detective, Season One.

Fishface | 19004 comments 5/20 is the anniversary of the day we lost Raymond Smith, aka Ricky Lee Beeks, to Jeff Dahmer. See The Man Who Could Not Kill Enough.

In similar atrocious cases, Ronald Dominique did away with poor Datrell Woods. See The Bayou Killer: Life of Serial Killer Ronald J. Dominique.

(Datrell is, I'm almost 100% sure, in the 2nd row down 3rd from the R -- and look how young he was)
Jack Hanrahan was killed by "Freight Train" Guatney -- and Guatney was actually charged with this one, which makes it feel a lot more solid to me. See Slayer of Innocence.
David Fulton was thrown off a ship to drown. See The Sex Killers.
We lost Kelli Brownlee, maybe to the revolting Arthur Ream. See https://www.wxyz.com/news/if-it-can-b...
Loretta Lynn Chaisson Lewis was found dead. See Jeff Davis 8: The True Story Behind the Unsolved Murder That Allegedly Inspired True Detective, Season One.

Far more happily, this is the day Robert Maier got away alive from Jesse Pomeroy, but I suspect their encounter marked him for life. Torture does that to a guy. See https://everything2.com/title/Jesse+P...

message 156: by Fishface (last edited May 19, 2020 03:57PM) (new)

Fishface | 19004 comments 5/21 is the day we lost Maria Diaz in what may have been a ritual murder. It's not for sure because at the time Raising Hell: An Encyclopedia of Devil Worship and Satanic Crime went to press, the killer had not been caught.
Nathaniel Cater was definitely, no-fooling-around killed by WAYNE Williams. Fiber evidence found on his body matched that of more than a few of the Atlanta Child Killer's victims, so even though Cater was far from a child, that allowed the authorities to quietly close those cases. See The Atlanta Child Murders: The Night Stalker.

(last look at Nathaniel)
Anna Brown was killed by someone who had a financial interest in doing so. See Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI.
We lost Angelica Lavalee and Barbara Byer to the depredations of a couple of sphincters named Gore and Waterfield. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2

Angelica

Barbara
We lost Officer John Matthews. See http://www.nydailynews.com/news/natio...
Deborah Jane Dudley became the latest child in her family to die of gross neglect. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers: Volume 1.
Melford Sample was found buried in a peach orchard. One of his pockets was stuffed with sales receipts signed by a local labor contractor named Juan Corona. See Jury.

And happy birthday, Jeff Dahmer! See A Father's Story.

message 157: by Fishface (new)

Fishface | 19004 comments 5/22 is the anniversary of the day Lee Fletcher and Deborah Heneman, who had been missing for some time, finally turned up. Unfortunately, they were buried in Gary Taylor's former backyard in Onsted, Michigan, with marks of torture on them. See Spoken in Darkness: Small-Town Murder and a Friendship Beyond Death.
Walter Sanders was also found dead, with 5 shotgun blasts to various areas of his body. Some were inflicted postmortem by his killer, Mauricio Silvia. At least that was how the author of Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2 spelled it. Murderpedia says his name is Silva.
Vyacheslav Klimov lost his life for no reason. See Born to Kill in the USSR.

(the killer, Aleksandr Pichushkin, in custody and not too happy about it)
Billy Patten was also found dead after being missing 4 years, adding him to the list of hideous sex killings now known as the Hog Trails Case. See 50 American Serial Killers You've Probably Never Heard Of: Volume 6.
Marcus Conte was also found dead. RIP Marcus. See THE CRATE: A Story Of War, A Murder, And Justice.
Steve Bryant was shot in the head by some of the guys who ran the religious cult he belonged to. See Monkey on a Stick.

(before-and-after photos of Steve, whose name in the Hare Krishnas was Sulocana)

message 158: by Fishface (last edited May 28, 2020 04:23PM) (new)

Fishface | 19004 comments 5/23 is the day Moses Sithole raped and murdered a pretty 21-year-old who was curiously named Granny Dikamatso Ramela. Maybe "granny" means something else in Zulu? See Catch Me a Killer: Serial Murders: A Profiler's True Story.
Michael McMorrow was murdered in Strawberry Fields, Central Park, NYC with extreme overkill by a couple of young kids. To give an example of what they did to him, when the police went to the lake at Strawberry Fields -- led by an anonymous tip called in by one of the killers -- they found 40 inches of his intestines floating next to the rest of him. See Baby-Faced Butchers.

Charles Fleming was found dead on this day, in the course of the mass dig prompted by the discovery of Kenny Whitacre's body. See Twenty-Five Murders (and Probably More): Looking for a Reason: The Juan Corona Trials and Confessions.
Fritz Haarmann did his usual number on the unlucky Roland Huch. See Monsters of Weimar: The Stories of Fritz Haarmann and Peter Kurten.
Alexander WAYNE Watson, Jr. murdered Elaine Shereika. See https://murderpedia.org/male.W/w/wats...

(Elaine is at the center of this lineup)
Weihan Weng, George Chen, Cheng Hong, Veronika Weiss, Christopher Michaels-Martinez and Katherine Cooper all died at the hands of Elliot Rodger. 14 others escaped with injuries. When Eliot was done he killed himself for good measure. See THE "SUPREME GENTLEMAN" KILLER: The True Story Of An Incel Mass Murderer.

This is the day John Jamelske released his third captive. She was alive, but far from unharmed. See http://www.nydailynews.com/news/justi...

In more positive anniversaries, this is the day Richard Sulita escaped the California Donald Miller with his life after refusing an offer of sex and getting clubbed over thd head with a length of pipe. See https://www.tellmedavid.com/2016/06/
And even more frighteningly, this is the day Sharon Komlos staggered naked and completely covered in blood from an apartment where she had been kept overnight, her kidnapper raping her over and over. She had been blinded by a bullet through the head, stabbed again and again, and could not do much more than go out on the balcony and scream for help. It was one of history's narrowest escapes. See Feel the Laughter: The Inspirational Story of Sharon Komlos.

And happy birthday, Richard Trenton Chase! See Dracula Killer: The True Story of California's Vampire Killer.

Fishface | 19004 comments 5/24 is the anniversary of the day a woman called "Shelly Crosby" in the papers escaped alive from Rex Krebs. She was far from unscathed, however. See Dead And Buried: A Shocking Account of Rape, Torture, and Murder on the California Coast.
Erwin Faulmann escaped 2 knife-wielding maniacs alive. I have seen mention of this crime only in Raising Hell: An Encyclopedia of Devil Worship and Satanic Crime. Look for it under "Maxwell's Silver Hammer."
We lost Christa Naujoks to the Pink Giant. He left his ladies' underwear with her in the landfill where he dropped her body. See https://www.womenarehuman.com/transge...
Tony Costa did horrible things to Sydney Monzon. She was later found In His Garden: The Anatomy of a Murderer.

Travesene Ellis was raped and murdered in one of the many abandoned houses on Detroit's east side, exactly 1 year ago now. Like all of DeAngelo Martin's victims, she was found on her knees, face against the floor, with a used condom full of DNA evidence right next to her. RIP Travesene. See https://www.wxyz.com/news/region/detr...

We also lost the unlucky Tony Hughes. See The Shrine of Jeffrey Dahmer.
This is also the day Luka Magnotta succeeded in luring Jun Lin, who had never done anything to him, into a fatal encounter. See Don't F**k With Cats or Canadian Psycho: The True Story of Luka Magnotta.

(the things some people will do for Internet stardom)

Michael WAYNE Ryan croaked in prison on this day 5 years ago. Good riddance to bad rubbish. See Evil Harvest: The True Story of Cult Murder in the American Heartland.

message 160: by Fishface (new)

Fishface | 19004 comments 5/25 is the anniversary of the murder of Martin Brown, who was hardly more than a baby when he died. See Cries Unheard: Why Children Kill: The Story of Mary Bell.

Shirley Rock killed her husband David. Niiiiiice lady. See Notorious 92: Indiana's Most Heinous Murders in All 92 Counties.

Dieter Beck put paid to Ursula Fritz. See Killerfrauen: Deutschlands bekanntester Serienmordexperte klärt auf.
We lost Brooke Wilberger to the reprehensible Joel Courtney. See http://www.nydailynews.com/news/natio...

This is also the day Luka Magnotta posted his now-infamous video of the murder of Jun Lin on Facebook. See My Son, The Killer: The Untold Story of Luka Magnotta and "1 Lunatic 1 Ice Pick".

On the other hand, this is the day a 9-year-old escaped Charlie Chop-Off alive, breaking the case for the police. See Charlie Chop Off - Serial Killers Unauthorized & Uncensored.
Marie Pichon ran for her life and successfully kept Martin Dumollard from taking it from her. Not everyone was that lucky. See Dumollard, The Maid Killer.

message 161: by Fishface (last edited May 25, 2020 12:58PM) (new)

Fishface | 19004 comments 5/26 is the day Fritz Haarmann killed a travelling salesman (17 years old!) named Fritz Wittig. He was possibly Fritz's oldest murder victim. On the same day he killed his youngest known victim, 10-year-old Friedrich Abeling. Haarmann's love interest, Hans Grans, kept Wittig's suit. See Monsters of Weimar: The Stories of Fritz Haarmann and Peter Kurten.
Georgia Williams was hung, posed and photographed by necrophiliac weirdo Jamie Reynolds on this day in 2013. See True Crime Case Histories - (Books 1, 2 & 3): 32 Disturbing True Crime Stories

Quebecois serial killer Leopold Dion did away with another unlucky boy, this time 13-year-old Pierre Marquis. See Cold North Killers: Canadian Serial Murder.

(Pierre is all the way on the R)
This is the day Jesse Thomas was lynched in the place of serial killer Roy Mitchell. I'm sure the lynch mob thought they had the right guy, but that doesn't make it any better. See 50 American Serial Killers You've Probably Never Heard Of: Volume 3.
Diane Hawkins was stabbed and disemboweled. Her daughter, Katrina Harris, was decapitated. It took a while to clear the case but they finally got the guy who did it. See Relentless Pursuit: A True Story of Family, Murder, and the Prosecutor Who Wouldn't Quit.

David Maust killed Jesse Thomas. It was a sex crime. See Notorious 92: Indiana's Most Heinous Murders in All 92 Counties.

(crime scene photo)

In better news, this is the day Samuel Danon got away alive from the California Donald Miller. This was the beginning of the end for good old Donald. See https://casetext.com/case/people-v-mi...

message 162: by Fishface (new)

Fishface | 19004 comments 5/27 is the day Abraham Abdullah was slashed to death with a razor and robbed of $17. See Teresita, the Voice from the Grave: The Incredible But True Story of How an Occult Vision Solved the Murder of Teresita Basa.
Patrick Kelly was killed on this day in 1962. You know it was ugly because I read about it in The Sex Killers.
This is the day we lost Albert Hayes as well. See The Road to Yuba City: A Journey into the Juan Corona Murders.
This is the day Konerak Sinthasomphone died, in one of the sorriest episodes ever recorded in the history of Milwaukee police work. He would be 43 now if the officers had taken the neighbors seriously and transported him to an ER instead of handing him back to Jeff Dahmer. See The Man Who Could Not Kill Enough.

Charles Whitehorn and Anna Brown were found dead. See Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI.

Charles

Anna, L, with her mother Lizzie and sister Mollie

Jenny Isford died untimely, at the hands of William Brett Hanson. Danny Wood was a suspect for quite a while in this case, but for a change he didn't kill this unlucky woman. See Cold North Killers: Canadian Serial Murder.

Martha Kitzler was murdered on the same day Monique Hilton was found dead. In both cases the killer was the same: Mauricio Silva. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.
Trang Phuong Ho was stabbed 45 times in the dorm-room bed she was sharing with a guest staying the night. The guest, Thao Nguyen, who was stabbed as well, went screaming into the night to get help. By the time help arrived, it was too late for both Trang and her killer. See Halfway Heaven: Diary of a Harvard Murder.

(the killer, R, and victim, L)
Johnny Bayer was lured to his death. See Where the Bodies Are Buried.

(Johnny is at R at the very bottom)
John Jackson died in circumstances fairly similar to those that got Johnny Bayer killed. The setting and the weapon were quite different but the motives were basically the same. See Burden of Proof: The Case of Juan Corona.
LaConia "Muggy" Brown was murdered under circumstances that remain a bit murky. See Jeff Davis 8: The True Story Behind the Unsolved Murder That Allegedly Inspired True Detective, Season One.

Curtis Don Brown killed Jewel Woods. See https://murderpedia.org/male.B/b/brow...
Natalee Holloway vanished. It's already been 15 years since anyone saw her alive. See Forever Missing : The Disappearance of Natalee Holloway.
This is also the day the Jun Lin case hit the news in a big way, when the Canadian Conservative Party offices received a package containing Jun's foot, and a mail clerk intercepted a suspicious package that proved to have Jun's hand in it. Incredibly, it's already been 8 years since this happened. See Canadian Psycho: The Story of Luka Magnotta.

the killer, visibly racked with guilt
This is the last time anyone saw Sheryl Donahue alive. She is thought to have been fed to the pigs at the Pickton farm. See Pickton: In His Own Words.

Private William Walker, a black man, was gunned down by the white sheriff of the county where Walker was stationed in WWII. An Army officer asked that the sheriff do it, with good reason by the standards of the era: Walker's uniform was missing a button. See The Slaughter: An American Atrocity.
Curtis Don Brown killed Terece Gregory. See https://murderpedia.org/male.B/b/brow...
Kristin Lardner was gunned down on the sidewalk in the college town where she was living. The killer, Michael Cartier, killed himself later that day in his apartment. No great loss there. See The Stalking of Kristin: A Father Investigates the Murder of His Daughter.

(this seems to be a photo of Cartier during an earlier police contact but I am not 100% sure)
A pudgy little man -- who clearly had serious emotional issues -- raped and murdered Manuel Reed. See The Bayou Strangler: Louisiana’s Most Gruesome Serial Killer.

message 166: by Fishface (new)

Fishface | 19004 comments 5/31 is the day Fritz Haarmann killed Hans Sonnenfeld. Haarmann was seen later wearing Hans's yellow overcoat. See Monsters of Weimar: The Stories of Fritz Haarmann and Peter Kurten.
Jonathan Zak was killed with a gunshot to the chest delivered by William DWAYNE McDonald. This killer is not the same as the Australian William McDonald. You can read about this killer here: https://lfpress.com/news/local-news/s...

Jonathan
This was a big day for William "Freight Train" Guatney: David Johns and Richard and Russell Chase all died at his hands on this day in 1976. See Slayer of Innocence.

Jesus Fernandez was found, having apparently died in the attempt to pull the killer's knife out of his chest. His girlfriend, a Satanist named Sylvia Brakel, proved to be the guilty party. See Cult Killers.
Jan Donse was taken from us by Hans van Zon. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers: Volume 1. Or Jarretels voor een seriemoordenaar, if you read Dutch.

Fishface | 19004 comments 6/1 is the anniversary of the day we lost Shari Smith to Larry Gene Bell. She died of dehydration, but not before penning a loving goodbye to her friends and family. See True Crime Case Histories - (Books 1, 2 & 3): 32 Disturbing True Crime Stories.

Shelby Venable and Mary Fellers made the horrible mistake of hitching a ride with Melvin Rees. They were not seen alive again. The case remained unsolved until Rees confessed to a reporter who was interviewing him about his other killings. See The Potomac River Teen Murders: June 1956.

Melissa Ann Meyer was killed with a combination of strangulation and deployment of a machete on her person by Jason WAYNE Rose and his buddy, John Ray Jones. They were very up front in explaining to the police that they'd killed her in a Satanic ritual. In a fascinating aside, Rose later filed suit against the corrections system saying that when they took away his Dungeons and Dragons game, they were depriving him of his constitutional right to practice his religion. I bet Michael Newton was thrilled about that! See Cult Killers.
Lottie Thompson and Hannah Finnerty were found dead, Thompson in an apartment in the same building where her killer, Nicholas Wiley, lived. Hannah was found outside the same building, dumped in the trash. Wiley had been out of prison only a few months. They knew he was a high-risk sex offender so why he was living anywhere but the "gray bar hotel" is beyond me. See 50 American Serial Killers You've Probably Never Heard Of: Volume 5.
Elaine Dumba went missing from the Downtown Eastside area of Vancouver, British Columbia. Willie Pickton is obviously a suspect, but no trace of her has been found at his place, apparently. See On the Farm.

A woman's torso was found in the Thames in, I think, 1879. No leads so far. See Faceless: Five Gruesome Unsolved Murders: Most Mysterious and Headless Unsolved Murders of All Time.

Malcolm Little was added to Randy Kraft's scorecard with the notation "Teen Trucker." See Serial Killer Timelines: Illustrated Accounts of the World's Most Gruesome Murders.

Elke Braun was raped, stabbed, then thrown off a cliff to die. See the Helmut Weidenbroeker section of Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers: Volume 1.
Patrolman Edward Wier was shot and killed while responding to a "man with a gun" call. Wier's killer shot and killed himself as well, saving taxpayers the cost of a trial. See In the Line of Duty: The Story of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.

Three women have their murder anniversaries on the same day, all at the hands of "angel of death" killer Niels Hogel. Their last names were not given out in the press but Irene G. was killed on this day in 2001, and Helga M. and Elfriede M. were killed on the same day in 2003. See Killer Nurses.
Craig B. Neal died at the hands of WAYNE Garrison. See https://www.tulsaworld.com/archive/ki...

On the other hand:
A man not named in the press escaped Danny Figueroa with his life. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.
And even better, a woman who had gotten away alive from Francisco Del Junco spotted him on the street and flagged down a police car. When collared he was carrying a can of gas and some matches. He readily admitted to killing Vida Hicks, Diane Nelms, Cheryl Ray and Cheryl Cox and volunteered that when collared, he was on his way to do something even worse with the matches. Harold Amick and John Pfaffenbarger died untimely on this day in 1934. See Notorious 92: Indiana's Most Heinous Murders in All 92 Counties.

Anthony Dickson was found near a flaming car. His head was missing. See Raising Hell: An Encyclopedia of Devil Worship and Satanic Crime.
Deron Knepp escaped alive after Sage Francis attempted to slit his throat. See, yet again, Raising Hell: An Encyclopedia of Devil Worship and Satanic Crime.
On this day over 50 years ago now, we lost Alfred Greenfield to the "Knick Knack Man." See The Mutilator: Signature Serial Killers.

Fishface | 19004 comments 6/5 is the day exactly 1 year ago that DeAngelo Martin killed the unlucky Tammy Jones. See https://www.clickondetroit.com/news/2...

Jordan Miller was killed pretty much out of nowhere. The case is officially unsolved, but the author of Aaron Hernandez's Killing Fields: Exposing Untold Murders, Violence, Cover-Ups, and the NFL's Shocking Code of Silence suggested that it was a certain fairly notorious NFL star who pulled the trigger.

Erich De Vries, Fritz Haarmann's final victim before his long-overdue arrest, was carried to the Leine River for disposal in a grip that had belonged to Friedrich Koch, the second-to-last victim. Haarmann explained later that it took four trips to get rid of all of poor Erich. See Monsters of Weimar: The Stories of Fritz Haarmann and Peter Kurten.
We lost Agnes Kesson in an apparent sex crime. See https://eehe.org.uk/?p=25598
