Fishface | 19005 comments 3/28 is the anniversary of the day we lost Winston Moseley. He croaked in prison only 4 years ago, meaning that he outlived his last victim, the lovely Kitty Genovese, by just about exactly 52 years. See Thirty-Eight Witnesses: The Kitty Genovese Case.
Leslie Irvin killed Goebel, Raymond and Elizabeth Duncan on this day in 1955. Two other members of the family, Shirley and Mamie, escaped with their lives. See https://www.courierpress.com/story/ne...

(This clipping shows Raymond, center, and Goebel, with cow)
Robbin Rhodes lost her life to a man known only as the New Bedford serial killer. See Killing Season: The Unsolved Case of New England's Deadliest Serial Killer.

Emanuel Webb killed Minnie Sutton on this day in 1992. See https://m.ctpost.com/local/article/Mu...
Allen T. Foster III was killed by Tim Burgess on this day in 1981. You know it was a bad scene because I read about it in The Mutilators: From the Files of True Detective Magazine.
Brandy Southard and Kathy and John Tyler all lost their lives to John Stephenson. Maybe. See Notorious 92: Indiana's Most Heinous Murders in All 92 Counties.
Francisco Acevedo did away with poor Tawana Hodges. See https://westchestermagazine.com/life-...

Fishface | 19005 comments 3/29 is John Crawford's lamented, nay, execrated birthday. See Just Another Indian: A Serial Killer and Canada's Indifference.
This is the anniversary of the 2006 arrest of Scott Williams, which led to the police finding out that he was connected to the murders of Sharon Pressley, Christy Parker and Sharon Stone. See https://www.wistv.com/story/4611044/n...

Christy

Sharon P.

Sharon S.
It's the anniversary of the day Christina Castiglione was found murdered in Cohoctah Township, just a few miles from my office. She had been missing since March 19th. The case has not been cleared by an arrest. See https://www.whmi.com/news/article/cas...

Ellen Hansen was killed on this day in 1981 by David Carpenter. Stephen Haertle, who was probably not the real target, escaped with his life. See The Sleeping Lady: The Trailside Murders Above the Golden Gate.
Michael Telling killed his wife Monika. See http://denisemoak.blogspot.com/2007/1...
Tricia Reitler vanished on a short jaunt to a grocery store and was almost certainly killed, maybe by Larry WAYNE Hall. Her scent was all over the area where she disappeared -- she was a runner and would have made a valiant effort to escape her attacker -- and her bloodstained clothing was found, but no Tricia. See Urges: A Chronicle of Serial Killer Larry Hall.

Evelyn Dietrich was murdered pointlessly by Vernon Clark. See https://www.baltimoresun.com/maryland...
Chris Bryson was taken captive by Bob Berdella. See the horrific story in Rites Of Burial.

Far more happily, this is the day Jermaine Montenesdro escaped Heriberto Seda alive. See Sleep My Little Dead: The True Story of the Zodiac Killer.

Fishface | 19005 comments 3/30 is the day Willie Pickton supposedly killed Wendy Allen. See On the Farm. But there's good news! She was found alive and well under a different name in Ontario.

The Atlanta Child Killer did away with the unlucky Larry Rogers. He was 20 when he died, but he was only 5'1" and weighed a mere 110 pounds, so he must have looked like fair enough game to the killer. See The Atlanta Child Murders: The Night Stalker.

It's once again the anniversary of the Ruppert family massacre. We lost Alma, John, Charity, Leonard Jr., Leonard III, Michael, Thomas, Carol, David, Ann & Theresa Ruppert to the fairly dweeby gunslinger James Ruppert. It was Easter Sunday. See https://www.daytondailynews.com/news/...

Juan Corona killed Warren Kelley. Or maybe the killer was Juan's brother, Natividad. See Burden of Proof: The Case of Juan Corona.

David and Pamela Covey died in a murder/suicide scenario. See Raising Hell: An Encyclopedia of Devil Worship and Satanic Crime.
Roberto Arguelles killed Tuesday Roberts and Lisa Martinez. See https://www.deseret.com/1997/6/19/193...

Tuesday
This is the anniversary of the execution of Chester Gillette. See Adirondack Tragedy: The Gillette Murder Case of 1906.
This is also the day someone found Keith Crotwell's severed head, answering some of the family's questions about what had become of him. See Angel of Darkness: The True Story of Randy Kraft and the Most Heinous Murder Spree.
Robert Assaly was killed by Michael WAYNE McGray while McGray was out on a day pass for another murder. I'm sure the guy thought he was making some kind of a point, because he had warned the authorities that he would not stop killing. See Cold North Killers: Canadian Serial Murder.
Derek and Nancy Haysom were ritually murdered by their daughter Elizabeth and her radically misguided boyfriend, Jens Soering. See, again, Raising Hell: An Encyclopedia of Devil Worship and Satanic Crime.

This is also the anniversary of the day Will Lockett, aka Petrie Kimbrough, killed Eliza Morman. See The Murder of Geneva Hardman and Lexington's Mob Riot of 1920.
Donald Harvey was offed in his prison cell by a fellow inmate who was undoubtedly just up to here with the serial killer's insufferable perkiness. In all seriousness, that guy could make Mother Theresa throw a punch. See https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/n...

Fishface | 19005 comments 3/31 is the anniversary of the day Dawn Stewart was found dead. She was 6 months pregnant when she died. Her killer has not been identified; he is still known only as the Niagara Prostitute Killer. See Cold North Killers: Canadian Serial Murder.

Doris Marmon, aged 4 months, was killed on this day in 1896 by "baby farmer" Amelia Dyer. See http://www.murderuk.com/female_amelia...
Gregory Davis killed Addie Reid. See https://murderpedia.org/male.D/d/davi...
William McDonald killed the hapless Frank McLean on this day in 1962. If I know good old William, he probably stabbed the poor guy enough times to kill a dozen people. See The Mutilator: Signature Serial Killers.
This is the anniversary of the horrid, unsolved Hinterkaifeck murders. See Footsteps in the Attic: A true account of the slayings at the Hinterkaifeck Farmstead.
We also lost Michael and Cynthia McLelland on this day in 2013. See In Plain Sight: The Kaufman County Prosecutor Murders.

Beverly Seto was murdered by Wesley Evans. Maybe. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers: Volume 1.
We lost Mary Rose Santos to the New Bedford killer. See Shallow Graves: The Hunt for the New Bedford Highway Serial Killer.

Paul Rowles killed Linda Fida. See https://murderpedia.org/male.R/r/rowl...
Gaetan Ethier lost his life to Michael WAYNE McGray. See Cold North Killers: Canadian Serial Murder.
A 14-year-old girl was kidnapped on this day by John Jamelske. He kept her naked in his basement for the next 2 years, raping her over and over. When he turned on the waterworks in court later on and said he'd had time in his jail cell to think about what he'd done and he was so very sorry, this is why I don't believe his little lying self. You had TWO YEARS PLUS to think about it in just this one case. Throw away the key, judge! See https://criminalminds.fandom.com/wiki...

(the makeshift prison in Jamelske's basement)
Braeden Nugent killed Jean Joseph Boutin. See Canadian Monsters: 25 Horrific Serial Killer Cases.

Fishface | 19005 comments 4/1 is the day Joseph Laboucan and his faithful friend Michael Briscoe killed the unlucky Ellie May Meyer. They beat her unmercifully after chasing her down. A friend of both men, Stephanie Bird, went to see if she was all right and Meyer said she wouldn't tell anyone if they would just let her go to the road and flag down a ride. But she was too far gone by that point. See Deadmonton: Crime Stories from Canada's Murder City.

Heather Chinnock died at the hands of Willie Pickton. See The Pickton File.
Thomas Lee Dillon executed David Wellington for the crime of being within range of Dillon's rifle. See Sniper Killer : The True Story Of Thomas Dillon.
Michael WAYNE McGray killed Elizabeth Gale Tucker, aka Elizabeth Gayle Tucker, aka Gayle Tucker. She is thought to be his very first murder victim. See Cold North Killers: Canadian Serial Murder.

Herb Baumeister killed the very unlucky Michael Keirn. He probably never suspected a thing until it was too late. See Where the Bodies Are Buried.
This is the approximate day Christopher Wilder abducted Tina Marie Riscio, and the exact day in the same year that he killed Michele Korfman, who deserved better. Tina deserved better than to have to watch, for that matter. See Christopher Wilder: The True Story of The Beauty Queen Killer.
Kim Rawlins lost her life to the Bedroom Basher, t/n Gerald Parker. See In the Company of Evil: Thirty Years of California Crime, 1950-1980.
Emanuel Webb killed Sharon Cunningham. See https://murderpedia.org/male.W/w/webb...
Thomas Rainwater was gunned down by the Death Angels. Another intended victim, Linda Story, escaped with her life. They were both Salvation Army cadets. See Voodoo Killers: Slavery, Sorcery and the Supernatural.
Marvin Gay Sr. put three bullets in the chest of Marvin Gaye Jr. See Trouble Man: The Life and Death of Marvin Gaye.

But the news isn't all bad! This is the anniversary of the day Patricia Kelly was rescued by police from serial killer Andrew Urdiales. See A Killer Insane: The True Story of Andrew Urdiales.
And Lisa Pennal escaped alive from Robert Ben Rhoades. See Roadside Prey.

Fishface | 19005 comments First, the happy-ish anniversaries:

4/2 is the anniversary of the day Michael Monfort pleaded guilty to killing Lauren Willett. See the back section of Helter Skelter: The True Story of the Manson Murders.
It's the day Cassandra Barger got away alive -- barely -- from the Women's Medical Society. She'd already warned the doctor, Kermit Gosnell, that she was on methadone and could not be given certain sedatives. He gave her the wrong kind anyway and then let her convulse on the floor of his "clinic" without calling 911. Her complaint to the authorities went nowhere, but at least she got out of there alive. See Blackout.
Chris Bryson got out of Bob Berdella's house alive, after what must have been the longest two days of his life. See Rites Of Burial.

(the look on his face, in this photo taken by Berdella, really says it all)

Mientje Manders died at the hands of the man she thought she was going to be with for the rest of her life. I guess that turned out to be true, but not the way she intended. See the Sjef Rijke section of Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.
On approximately this day in 1901, Mrs. Henry Stork went out for an airing in a carriage with a man who may have been Joseph Keith. Whoever he was, he murdered her. See Notorious 92: Indiana's Most Heinous Murders in All 92 Counties.
This is also the day that Patty Rust, one of the FBI agents assigned to catalogue the contents of the "Toy Box" of torture killer David Parker Ray, decided she had seen enough. She walked out of the trailer and blew her head off. The FBI decided that the suicide was unrelated to her job, but come on. See Cries in the Desert.

message 107: by Fishface (new)

Fishface | 19005 comments 4/3 is the day in 1937 that Roger Irvine was murdered. See Breaking Blue, which was by far the best Squidmas present I got last year.
Nina Courtepatte became the latest victim of Joseph Laboucan and Michael Briscoe. See Cold North Killers: Canadian Serial Murder.
Orville Majors killed Cecil Smith. See 50 American Serial Killers You've Probably Never Heard Of: Volume 2.
Nora Kifer was definitely killed by Joseph Keith. Whether or not he killed Mrs. Stork, listed on April 2nd, he hanged for killing Nora and even left a letter behind confessing to the crime. See Notorious 92: Indiana's Most Heinous Murders in All 92 Counties.
Ella Mae Cooley was battered to death by her insanely jealous husband, Spade. There is apparently no real sign that she ever betrayed him in the first place, so it seems fitting that he was a country singer. Dang, his whole life was a country-western song. See The World's Greatest Crimes of Passion.

(Ella with the man who would one day kill her, on their wedding day)
A Jane Doe was found at Weeki Wachee Acres in Florida. Last I heard she had yet to be identified. DNA test anyone? See https://www.nytimes.com/1981/03/26/us...

(a composite sketch supplied by her killer, Billy Mansfield)

(a rather ghastly facial reconstruction)
Alicia Agsaoay was beheaded -- and relieved of her toes -- by her killer, Miguel Valdes. See Teresita, the Voice from the Grave: The Incredible But True Story of How an Occult Vision Solved the Murder of Teresita Basa.
Maggie Karer lost her life to serial killer Sam Pirrera. See Cold North Killers: Canadian Serial Murder.

This is also the date that Michele Chapman and her date were rescued by police from serial killer Derrick Todd Lee. See I've Been Watching You: The South Louisiana Serial Killer.
A woman named Frau Flake was also rescued on this date, some years earlier -- this time the escape was from weirdo serial maniac Peter Kurten. See Monsters of Weimar: The Stories of Fritz Haarmann and Peter Kurten.

Fishface | 19005 comments 4/4 is a day of multiple deaths.

It's the anniversary of the day Bruce Lindahl's dead body was found on top of Charles Huber's. See https://www.dailyherald.com/news/2020...

Charles

Bruce
Angela Staperfene, Jacob Burns, and Brian Douglas White all died at the hands of Brian Douglas White. Desiree Staperfene escaped the scene with her life after being made to watch the axe murders of her boyfriend and mother. See https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...

(the killer)
John Doe and Toddler Doe, a girl of about 2, were found in the course of the search for bodies on Gilgo Beach, Long Island. Last I heard neither one had been identified. See Lost Girls: An Unsolved American Mystery.

Beloved film director Bob Clark and his son, Ariel Hanrath-Clark, were killed by a drunk driver in a horrific crash. See https://toronto.citynews.ca/2007/04/0...

Bob

Ariel
Edna Worden and her daughter Marguerite were killed by Robert Nixon, for reasons only he truly understood. See The Brick Slayer.
Robin and Julie Kerry, sisters in their teens, were raped by a couple of strangers and forced, with their cousin Tom Cummins, to jump 90 feet into the water off the bridge where the rapes occurred. Amazingly, Tom survived with a broken hip but both of the girls died. See A Rip in Heaven.

(Julie)

(Robin, whose body has never been found)

But there are also some single murders that occurred on this day, of course:
Leslie Stone killed the unlucky Ruby Keen. See The Sex Killers.

Jesus Lim was found in his medical office, shot 5 times. The killer was Miguel Valdes. See Teresita, the Voice from the Grave: The Incredible But True Story of How an Occult Vision Solved the Murder of Teresita Basa. And here's an update on the killer's further exploits: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct...
Alexandr Pichushkin killed the unsuspecting Igor Kashtanov. See Alexander Pichushkin: The Shocking True Story of the Chessboard Killer.

message 109: by Fishface (last edited Apr 06, 2020 12:27PM) (new)

Fishface | 19005 comments 4/5 is the day we lost Tina Faelz, in a case that took more than a few years to clear. See Murder in Pleasanton: Tina Faelz and the Search for Justice.

(Steve Carlson, the dinkweed who killed her)
This is the approximate day Christopher Wilder killed Elizabeth Dodge, who never did anything to hurt him. See Beauty Queen Killer: The True Story of Christopher Wilder.

Robert Weeks killed Carol Ann Riley. See https://murderpedia.org/male.W/w/week...
Kathy Kohm died untimely in Santa Claus, Indiana. See https://www.nytimes.com/1983/11/26/us...

Lillian Shepherd was killed and chopped up by Mary Asbury, who was living in her trailer and supposedly taking care of the old lady. After Lillian's sister filed a missing-person report, Mary invited the police in to talk about it, leading them right past the garbage bags where Lillian was being kept for the time being. See The Mutilators: From the Files of True Detective Magazine.
Annette Pascal was taken from us by her new husband. The marriage lasted just long enough to get all her assets signed over to him, as usual. See Landru's Secret: The Deadly Seductions of France's Lonely Hearts Serial Killer.

A Jane Doe was found on this day in 1987. She is thought by the author of Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2 to be the victim of a serial killer. See the "Maryland" section.
Dena Greenberg was murdered by William Hargrove. You know it was a bad scene because I found it in The Mutilators: From the Files of True Detective Magazine.

message 110: by Fishface (last edited Apr 06, 2020 12:29PM) (new)

Fishface | 19005 comments 4/6 is the day Anna-Lisa Cefali lost her life to Canadian serial offender Angelo Colalillo. See Cold North Killers: Canadian Serial Murder.
It's also the day Anthony Connolly was found dead at the hands of rage-filled British serial killer Michael Lupo. See http://serialkillercentral.blogspot.c...
Vidar, Delfina, Tabitha and Peter Lillelid were killed for no reason on this earth by Karen Howell, Natasha Cornett, Crystal Sturgill, Jason Bryant, Ed Mullins, and Joe Risner. See https://www.crimetraveller.org/2017/0...

(the killers -- I'm not sure who is who)
This is the approximate day in 1924 that Fritz Haarmann ended the life of Hermann Bock, and the exact day in the same year that he killed Alfred Hogrefe. See Monsters of Weimar: The Stories of Fritz Haarmann and Peter Kurten.
Lisa Warner was found dead on this day in 1995. One year later to the day, they arrested her killer, Robert Shulman. See https://murderpedia.org/male.S/s/shul...
Frances Young vanished while out walking in Vancouver. She may be a victim of Willie Pickton. See https://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...

EDIT: I tried to get away from crime stories for a minute by reading a science book, but even here, murder found me. This is the day in 1992 that Gary and Sue Weiss were gunned down by a former employee in an attempted robbery. The police found him sleeping in a truck he stole from the victims. The three of them all worked in a trail-guide business; the killer, Ken Nicodemus, led the scientific team in Locust: The Devastating Rise and Mysterious Disappearance of the Insect that Shaped the American Frontier to what the author called the "mother lode" of bug parts trapped in glacier ice, leading them to answers scientists had been seeking for 200 or so years. But then he killed his bosses and got himself thrown in the slammer.

Fishface | 19005 comments 4/7 is the day we lost Ian and Nancy Blackburn to serial killer David Snow. See Cold North Killers: Canadian Serial Murder.

Francina Ileus was found on approximately this day in 1982, wandering the streets in a bewildered state. Her family was even more bewildered, because they had buried her in 1976. See Understanding Haitian Voodoo.

(Francina, L, with fellow escaped zombie Clairvius Narcisse)
Nancy and Richard Langert were killed out of nowhere. See I Am Cain: A Harrowing True Story of Murder, Compulsion and Unrepentant Evil.
Carol Ann Stephens was raped and strangled, then dumped in a drain culvert by a killer who has never been named. See The Child Killers.

(police at the scene)
Rickey Lee Green killed Jeffrey Davis. See http://www.geocities.ws/pentagon/8362... for a summary and some hideous crime-scene photos.
Marc Sappington killed Terry Green, basically because he just wanted to do it. That's what it means when the voices in your head order you to do something. See https://murderpedia.org/male.S/s/sapp...

(Terry, L, with 2 brother victims)
Juan Placencia was killed by 3 dumb kids. See Notorious 92: Indiana's Most Heinous Murders in All 92 Counties.
We also lost Katherine Redmond to William Smith. I can't even find a photo of the poor critter. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers: Volume 1.

This is the day someone found Gustavo Herrera's ravaged remains. See Freed to Kill: The True Story of Larry Eyler.

(the victims are at upper R)
Anna Weerts was clubbed, stabbed a hundred and twenty times -- someone counted -- and then set on fire. See Torture Killers II.
Infant Tommy Staunton was delivered to a charity hospital by a man who claimed to be his father's employer but was really his uncle. They were too late. Tommy died the same day of gross neglect. See The Trial of the Stauntons.
Dieter Beck killed the unlucky Ingrid Kanike. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2. Or, heck, German Monsters: 24 Horrific Serial Killer Cases.

(Dieter, R, in the courtroom getting his comeuppance)
Ronald Dominique did his usual number on poor Kurt Cunningham. See The Bayou Killer: Life of Serial Killer Ronald J. Dominique.

message 113: by Fishface (last edited Apr 09, 2020 07:52AM) (new)

Fishface | 19005 comments 4/9 is the day Alice Montgomery was done to death. See A Prescription for Murder: The Victorian Serial Killings of Dr. Thomas Neill Cream.
We lost Sharon Kedzierski to "Dr. No." See https://www.thedailybeast.com/police-...

Charlena Marie Simon and her friend Robin Snead were found murdered in an orchard. See http://www.kevinroderick.com/girls.html
We lost Christopher Francis to William Guatney. His trick to attract children was making a noise just like the sound of a train whistle. Apparently it worked on Christopher. See Slayer of Innocence.
Ronald Dominique killed August Watkins. It's safe to say poor August never did anything to hurt Dominique. See The Bayou Strangler: Louisiana's Most Gruesome Serial Killer.
Ottis Toole killed Ruby McCary. At least he said he did. You know how that guy was. See Talking with Serial Killers: The Most Evil People in the World Tell Their Own Stories.

Donald Jones was raped and killed by serial offender David Maust. If I'm remembering right this is the 14-year-old boy he killed in Germany while serving in the military. See Notorious 92: Indiana's Most Heinous Murders in All 92 Counties.
Jay Pinkerton killed Sherry Welch in the furniture store where she worked as a manager. I have not found a photo of her but she is supposed to have been quite a beauty. Not that it would be any better if she were hideous. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.
We lost Lee Ann Larmon to Todd Mendyk. See http://kidnappingmurderandmayhem.blog...

In a genuinely smiley true crime moment, this is the day Serafin Hernandez and David Martinez blithely drove through a roadblock near Matamoros, Mexico. The police naturally enough pulled them over and the two men informed the cops that they were invisible to the authorities because of a magic spell someone had placed on them. (Man, I would give 5 bucks to see the looks on their faces when they heard that.) They took the two weirdoes back to their ranch and started looking around. The smiley part of the story ends here. There was a foul-smelling shed out back with a cauldron full of what looked like blood and bones. They soon uncovered evidence of one of the grisliest multiple murder cases anyone had come across in decades. See Buried Secrets: A True Story of Drug Running, Black Magic, and Human Sacrifice.

EDIT: And at this point we go from smiley to gonzo. Someone at Reddit says this happened live on police dashcam on April 9th, 2000. We all thought we would have flying cars and robot butlers by the year 2000, but this is what we got instead:

Fishface | 19005 comments 4/10 is the day Bob Berdella captured Robert Sheldon. See Rites Of Burial.

(Sheldon passed out on the carpet -- Berdella took this picture)
Kenneth "Rat" Trahan came a cropper. See Jeff Davis 8: The True Story Behind the Unsolved Murder That Allegedly Inspired True Detective, Season One.
We lost Aletha Byrd to teen serial killer Montie Rissell. She deserved better on her worst day. See https://www.learning-history.com/mont...

Michael Cluck was added to Randy Kraft's scorecard with the notation "Portland Blood." See Angel of Darkness: The True Story of Randy Kraft and the Most Heinous Murder Spree.

Marc Sappington, still floridly psychotic, killed Michael Weaver and Alton Brown. See 50 American Serial Killers You've Probably Never Heard Of: Volume 3.

The stately Royal Street home of Louis and Delphine Lalaurie caught fire on this day in 1834. Firefighters made their way to Dr. Lalaurie's experimental medical lab where seven slaves where found dead, unable to escape because they were chained to the wall and nobody had alerted anyone to the fact that they were in there. Adding to the mystery is the fact that somewhere along the line, it was Delphine who got blamed for all this. See Mad Madame Lalaurie: New Orleans' Most Famous Murderess Revealed.

message 115: by Fishface (last edited Apr 06, 2020 12:23PM) (new)

Fishface | 19005 comments 4/11 is the anniversary of the murder of Donna Pounds by WAYNE Nance. If I'm remembering right this is the mother of WAYNE's good friend, upon whom he fixated sexually and whom he finally eventually murdered to get it out of his system. See To Kill and Kill Again.

(Donna on her wedding day)
We lost both Alice Marsh and Emma Shrivell to multiple poisoner Thomas Neill Cream. See Trial of Thomas Neill Cream.

(A drawing of Alice is at the center of this newspaper illustration)
Kathy Brackens lost her life to Gerald Lewis. See 50 American Serial Killers You've Probably Never Heard Of: Volume 6.
This is the day Doris Marmon turned up dead in the Thames. Investigators looked farther and found more than 40 other babies and toddlers in the water. I shudder to think how many were washed away and never found at all. See https://www.oldpolicecellsmuseum.org....
Nicholas Wiley killed poor Tammy Passineau. See 50 American Serial Killers You've Probably Never Heard Of: Volume 5.
Roberto Succo killed his parents. See https://murderpedia.org/male.S/s/succ...

(the victims and their killer)
Karl Werner killed Kathy Bilek. See In the Company of Evil: Thirty Years of California Crime, 1950-1980.
Two Jane Does were found on this day in the Gilgo Beach investigation. One of them proved via DNA testing to be the mother of the toddler found on April 4th, but none of them appear to have names yet. See Lost Girls: An Unsolved American Mystery.

Fishface | 19005 comments 4/12 is the anniversary of the day a skull was found near Micquelon lake, outside Edmonton. They identified the remains as belonging to Debbie Darlene, but they never found the rest of her. Thomas Svekla is a goodish suspect, but investigation continues. See Deadmonton: Crime Stories from Canada's Murder City.

We also lost Arthur, Joyce and Kelly Irwin on this day, at the hands of Joyce's son, Arthur's stepson, who was named Jason but went by Bob. The Bobster got caught because after bragging to his friends at school about what he'd done, he brought some of them home to show them the crime scene. See Raising Hell: An Encyclopedia of Devil Worship and Satanic Crime.
Moses Sithole did away with the unlucky Letta Ndangamandla. See Catch Me a Killer: Serial Murders: A Profiler's True Story.
We also lost Larissa Kulygina, to the Chessboard Killer. See Born to Kill in the USSR.
Viktorija Sokolova, 14, was raped and beaten to death with a hammer by a 16-year-old in a park. He is now old enough to be identified by name in the press: Ayman Aziz. See https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...
Mae Griffin was killed. Fred Lockhart was the guilty party. See 45 Murderers: A Collection of True Crime Stories. But soft! It says here that that wasn't her correct name -- or his, either: https://www.shreveporttimes.com/story...

the killer

the victim, who was either 15 or 19

...or was she 16?
Andree Babelay became the latest victim of the local bluebeard killer. See Landru's Secret: The Deadly Seductions of France's Lonely Hearts Serial Killer.

This is the day John Porter was found dead. He is roughly connected, at least by time and place, to the Atlanta Child Murders, but he was 28 years old at the time of his death (by multiple stab wounds). He lived off and on with James "Old Man" Gates, who interestingly was charged at one point with the murder of "Gypsy" Bacon, a girl who did make the list of the Atlanta Child Murderer's victims. John was found propped up on some steps. See The List.

This is also the anniversary of the day Mattie Martin was beaten up and robbed by her grandson, Jimmy Rode (pronounced "Rowdy.") At least she got away from him alive; not everyone did. See Dead of Night: The True Story of a Serial Killer.

message 117: by Fishface (last edited Apr 13, 2020 11:59AM) (new)

Fishface | 19005 comments 4/13 is the anniversary of the day Mary Towey was killed by a couple of guys who were into Dungeons & Dragons. The article shown below clearly states that the game had nothing, repeat, NOTHING to do with the killing, but the author of Raising Hell: An Encyclopedia of Devil Worship and Satanic Crime thinks otherwise.

Lori Uylaki was killed by rape-murderer Andrew Urdiales. See 50 American Serial Killers You've Probably Never Heard Of: Volume 5.

Clara Toriello's sister came into her room to wake her up for work. Clara was naked on her bed, stabbed to death. Paul Martin and Betty Joe Booker went on their last date. See Texarkana Moonlight Murders: The Unsolved Case of the 1946 Phantom Killer.
Harriet Staunton died a horrible death after a long struggle to survive, locked in a room for something like 2 years without adequate food, water or anything else. I personally suspect having her infant son Tommy taken away from her was the last straw. Her own husband didn't see the point in mentioning her death to anyone, but the landlady stepped in, called the police and the rest is history. See The Trial of the Stauntons.

Agnes Naismith, Kathleen Campbell, Martha Semple, Margaret Lang and James Lindsay were all executed for witchcraft on the word of Christie Shaw on this day in 1697. They believed the 11-year-old because she had been vomiting up sticks, feathers and rocks for some time, and besides, she named names. Another accused man had already hanged himself in his jail cell. We lost Selim Esen, almost certainly to Bruce McArthur. See https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toront...
Willie Pickton killed Sarah DeVries. I read in Missing Sarah: A Vancouver Woman Remembers Her Vanished Sister that the RCMP called the author and said they had found a tooth at the Pickton spread that they wanted to test against Sarah's DNA, but something I found online said they found her makeup bag and used DNA left on her lipstick. Either way, the only remaining trace of her was that scrap of DNA.

Minnie Edmonds was killed in a dark alley in New York. The police always seemed to think George Whitmore did it.

(but he was exonerated later)
Tracey Toovey; Ruth, Louise and Maria Richards; and Angela, Sofia and Theresa Salcido were all killed the same day by Ramon Salcido, who was Angela's husband and Sofia and Theresa's dad. His other daughter, Carmina, unaccountably escaped alive. See Not Lost Forever: My Story of Survival.

(Carmina)
Robert Gray blew up in an Indiana courtroom. I don't mean that in the metaphorical sense. He literally blew up. See Notorious 92: Indiana's Most Heinous Murders in All 92 Counties.

On the same day in a different year, Garry Robbins shot himself during a standoff with the police. The woman he was holding hostage, Mary Ann Marker, got away alive. Shelly-Ann Bascu vanished. She has never been seen again since that day in 1983. See Highway of Tears: A True Story of Racism, Indifference and the Pursuit of Justice for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.

Fishface | 19005 comments 5/5 is the anniversary of the day we lost Sheri, Gavin and Garrett Coleman to Sheri's husband, the boys' dad, Chris Coleman. He would have just gotten a divorce like anyone else, but Chris worked security for a televangelist who would have fired him for walking away from his family. This was apparently his only other idea. See True Crime Case Histories - (Books 1, 2 & 3): 32 Disturbing True Crime Stories.

Anna Bachmeier was invited into a strange man's house to pet his new puppy. That was the last anyone saw of her. Her killer had already been castrated -- physically, not chemically! -- for a previous crime of this sort, but he didn't let that stop him. See Predators: From the Files of True Detective Magazine.

Jamie Lavis was murdered, basically out of nowhere. See Black Moss.

So were Alain Carrier and Michel Morel. See https://murderpedia.org/male.D/d/dion...
We lost Richard Hamilton to Herb Baumeister. This was how Herb always spent his summer vacations when the wife and kids were away. See You Think You Know Me: The True Story of Herb Baumeister and the Horror at Fox Hollow Farm.

This is also the day John WAYNE Wilson hanged himself in his jail cell. I, personally, would have liked to hear him explain himself. See Closing Time: The True Story of the "Goodbar" Murder.
A notorious bank robber known to the police as "Cowboy Bob" was gunned down by police on this day 15 years ago now. Were they ever surprised when they examined the body! See https://www.penguinrandomhouseaudio.c...

We lost Monica Jack to one of the numerous "Highway of Tears" killers, in this case a guy named Gary Handlen. See Highway of Tears: A True Story of Racism, Indifference and the Pursuit of Justice for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
Lazarus Mazingane performed his signature elaborate strangulation ritual on an unlucky woman named Prudence Miller. See Byleveld: Dossier of a Serial Sleuth.

Fishface | 19005 comments 5/7 is the anniversary of the day Angelo Colalillo killed an unlucky 14-year-old named Jessica Grimard. See Cold North Killers: Canadian Serial Murder.

Lilla Faye Moler was found dead at the hands of Todd Reed. See the pertinent section of 50 American Serial Killers You've Probably Never Heard Of: Volume 6 or -- for more on Lilla Faye herself, and not the rat bastidge who strangled her -- https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/1...
Larry Eyler killed Daniel McNieve, and from there he did even sicker things to him. He left him in a field. See Freed to Kill: The True Story of Larry Eyler.

Gary Walker killed Eddie Cash and Margaret Bell. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.
We lost most of the Columbo family -- Frank, Mary and Michael -- because they disapproved of their daughter Patty's sexual relationship with a much older man at her workplace, a Walgreen's pharmacy. If I recall correctly, he was one of their pharmacists. See Love's Blood.

Gabriele Roesner lost her life to serial killer Michael Wolpert. See the "Michael Wolter" section of Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.

Winston Hemsley died a hideous death at the hands of Robert Mayfield. You know it was bad because I read about it in Torture Killers II.

But it's not all bad! A man, not named in the papers, escaped Michael Lupo alive. See Human Monsters: Volume 4: 30 Terrifying Serial Killers from Around the World.
And a woman -- also not named in the papers -- survived a rape and stabbing by J.J. DeAngelo, thank Scrod. See I'll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman's Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer.

Fishface | 19005 comments 5/8 is the anniversary of the discovery of Charles Hattula's body. He was found drowned in the Pecatonica River. He was a 25-year-old, blond, blue-eyed employee of John WAYNE Gacy. He was just Gacy's type, in other words. His case has never been solved, but give me a break. See Talking with Serial Killers 2: The World's Most Evil Killers Tell Their Stories.
Stephanie Russell was found dead. Se the Todd Reed section of 50 American Serial Killers You've Probably Never Heard Of: Volume 6.
We also lost Marlys Wohlenhaus. It would be 20 years before her family got any answers. See Justice For Marlys: A Family’s Twenty Year Search for a Killer.

This is the last day anyone saw Edward Cupp or Charles Fleming alive. Fleming had a roll of $100 bills on him that were missing from his pockets when he was found dead. Edward Cupp has been released from jail just a few days before he died. If they had kept him longer he might have lived out his natural lifespan. See Twenty-Five Murders (and Probably More): Looking for a Reason: The Juan Corona Trials and Confessions.

(Edward Cupp)
Maureen Mosie was last seen alive, hitchhiking along the Highway of Tears, on this day in 1981. She was found dead by the side of the road on May 9th. Her case has not been solved.

Nadine Gurczenski was found by passersby lying in a ditch, wearing one large hoop earring, a gold ankle bracelet, nylon stockings, and nothing else. She is thought to be a victim of the Niagara Prostitutes Killer. See https://toronto.citynews.ca/2006/06/0...

On a much happier note, this is the day police rescued James Mack from the California serial murderer Donald Miller. Many others were not nearly as lucky. See https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-x...

Fishface | 19005 comments 5/9 is the anniversary of the day Barry Marshall did terrible things to his wife Vivienne. You can read all about it in The Mutilators: From the Files of True Detective Magazine.
Thomas Svekla did some similarly terrible things to Corrie Ottentbreit, but in this case he probably had never even met her before. See Deadmonton: Crime Stories from Canada's Murder City.

(Svekla, visibly racked with guilt)
Dorothy Pearce was raped and battered to death at her place in Southlands Beach, Bermuda. See The Sex Killers.
We lost Heinz Martin to Fritz Haarmann. See Monsters of Weimar: The Stories of Fritz Haarmann and Peter Kurten.
This is the day some of Han Yao's belongings were found in Zhang Yongming's home. He had no business with them. See https://murderpedia.org/male.Y/y/yong...

Gary Walker did away with the unlucky Margaret Lydick. See 50 American Serial Killers You've Probably Never Heard Of: Volume 6. See, again, 50 American Serial Killers You've Probably Never Heard Of: Volume 6.

But now the good news. A young girl escaped Eugene Britt alive on this day, at least according to Notorious 92: Indiana's Most Heinous Murders in All 92 Counties.
And Janet Sylvestre got away alive from John Crawford after he raped her. At least 4 other women were not as lucky. See Just Another Indian: A Serial Killer and Canada's Indifference.

Fishface | 19005 comments 5/10 starts with the good news for a change. This is the day they executed John WAYNE Gacy, who signed off with a characteristically delightful "Kiss my ass." At the same moment, hundreds of miles away, FBI profiler Robert Ressler was watching TV in a hotel room and suddenly felt so horrible that he was sure he was having a heart attack. He wasn't, but minutes later he saw on the news that Gacy had just twitched his last. He later explained to a group of attendees at a lecture at the Center for Forensic Psychiatry -- I was one of them -- that "I think Gacy stopped off on his way to hell to visit." See Buried Dreams: Inside the Mind of a Serial Killer.

This is also the day Alexsandr Pichushkin lured V.P. Stanova to his death. (Her death?) See Alexander Pichushkin: The Shocking True Story of the Chessboard Killer.

(Don't quote me on this, but I think victim #49 is maybe Stanova. I'm not too great with the Cyrillic alphabet.)
We lost Gregory Debish Jr., who was just a baby, to his own grandmother, Elizabeth Shanklin. She said later she was jealous of all the attention the baby was getting so she iced him. It wasn't the first time she'd pulled this stunt, either. See Notorious 92: Indiana's Most Heinous Murders in All 92 Counties.

Deanna Siefert, a 10-year-old from Warren, Michigan, vanished from her bed at a slumber party at a friend's house. I was a social-work intern at the time and I remember hotly debating this with a fellow intern who was from Warren and positive the kid was still alive. Unfortunately, I turned out to be right about 2 months after she disappeared. See https://apnews.com/0d668f5905d1ebe36d...

(Bob Siefert with a photo of his daughter)
We also lost Violette Kaye to a man she knew named Tony Mancini. This was one of the infamous "Brighton Trunk Crimes" in the dim, dead year of 1934. See the New Murderer's Who's Who.

This is the approximate day we lost Deborah LaVoie to Mark Profit. See 50 American Serial Killers You've Probably Never Heard Of: Volume 6.
Richard Rogers killed Anthony Marrero, who had never done anything to Rogers, that's for sure. See https://www.silive.com/news/g66l-2019...

Bevan Spencer Von Einem quite ironically rescued Roger James from the River Torren where James and two other gay men had been slung into the water to drown by Adelaide policemen. George Duncan did in fact drown. Read much more about Von Einem in Young Blood: The Story of the Family Murders.

Fishface | 19005 comments 5/11 is the dreadful anniversary of the torture murder of 10-year-old Aaron Raines. Michael Bies and Darryl "Junior" Gumm started with a sexual assault and when Aaron tried to fight them off, well, it got even uglier from there. He was eventually found tied up in the basement of an abandoned house. See Torture Killers II.

Somebody found the disarticulated body we now know only as Thames Torso #1. See The Thames Torso Murders.
Michael Abbink was killed by William "Freight Train" Guatney. See Slayer of Innocence.

We also lost Whitnei Dubois, to a killer who has not been clearly identified. See Murder in the Bayou: Who Killed the Women Known as the Jeff Davis 8?.

The Atlanta Child Murderer -- whoever you think that was! -- took William Barrett from all his family and friends. See The Atlanta Child Murders: The Night Stalker.
Anatoly Slivko killed Andrei Pogosyan, who probably never saw the danger coming because hey, this was his nice, safe Pioneer troop leader, Comrade Slivko! See Born to Kill in the USSR.
Louise Staula, a teenaged girl, was bashed over the head with a rock by another teenager, Anthony Santo. He prayed over her but it did not bring her back to life as he was hoping it might. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.
Deputy Robert Hohenberger took the life of Bertha Gould, along with her friend Judy Adams who vanished with Bertha. At least the police think so. Bertha has never been found. Judy turned up dead in the same septic tank on the same day they found Bridget Sons, who had been killed in an entirely separate incident. See, again, Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.

Fishface | 19005 comments 5/12 is the day Moses Sithole raped and murdered Esther Mainetja. See Catch Me a Killer: Serial Murders: A Profiler's True Story.
Lillian Martin and her grandson, Joshua Bryant, died for reasons nobody has adequately explained. See https://www.news-journalonline.com/ne...

The Doodler did away with the unlucky Frederick Capin. See Young, Queer, and Dead: A Biography of San Francisco's Most Overlooked Serial Killer, The Doodler.
Alexsandr Pichushkin lured an S.S. Chudin into deadly danger. Chudin did not survive the encounter. See Born to Kill in the USSR.
WAYNE Horton killed the unfortunate Edward Buccieri. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.

This is the day Jonah Smallwood, Elbert Riley and Paul Allen were last seen. A witness reported that Juan Corona, a local labor contractor, was driving them away in his truck, no doubt on their way to the work site where all 3 men were later found dead. See The Road to Yuba City: A Journey into the Juan Corona Murders.

There is one very happy anniversary today, though. Susan Cornish, Cindy Hellpe and a girl only called "Pauline" in the press all escaped Mary and Norma Bell with their lives. See Cries Unheard: Why Children Kill: The Story of Mary Bell.

This is also Earle Leonard Nelson's birthday. Happy 123rd, Earle! See The Dark Fountain.

This may the be real Dead Serial Killers Day!
William McDonald died in an Aussie prison on this day in 2016. See The Knick-Knack Man.
Tony Costa hanged himself in his jail cell. See In His Garden: The Anatomy of a Murderer.
Des Nilsen also died in prison. No doubt he had some explaining to do when he arrived in the Great Wherever. See Killing for Company: The Case of Dennis Nilsen.

Fishface | 19005 comments 5/13 is the day Donald Eric Armstrong killed Glenna Fox. See Cold North Killers: Canadian Serial Murder.
This is also the anniversary of the Black Friday Riot in Berkeley, California -- a minor civil disturbance that led to just about all the public protests since, all across the country. I'm almost positive I read about this in Diana: The Making of a Terrorist.

This is also the day Roy Radin died at the hands of William Mentzer. See Raising Hell: An Encyclopedia of Devil Worship and Satanic Crime or look here: https://murderpedia.org/male.M/m/ment...

(Roy is at center with his wife Loretta)
Good old Thomas Svekla, still up to no good, killed Delores Brower. See Deadmonton: Crime Stories from Canada's Murder City.

Danny Figueroa killed Reynold Johnson. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.

And happy 89th, Jim Jones! See Raven: The Untold Story of the Rev. Jim Jones and His People.

There are also 2 happy anniversaries for today:

Norma Bell's sister escaped alive after Mary Bell, Norma's best friend, tried to strangle her to death. See The Case of Mary Bell: A Portrait of a Child Who Murdered.

And police rescued Louise Spotanski from the clutches of serial killer Earl Daughtrey. Good on them. Sorry Earl! See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.

Fishface | 19005 comments 5/14 starts out with the good news: Maria Budlick escaped Peter Kurten alive. See Monsters of Weimar: The Stories of Fritz Haarmann and Peter Kurten.

But the rest of the day's anniversaries are terrible:

This is the anniversary of the so-called Mother's Day Massacre, when 15 pregnant women were seriously injured by an untested, unapproved abortion tool called a "super coil," invented by Kermit Gosnell's buddy Harvey Karman. The gadget consisted of plastic razors packed in a gel that would melt away when exposed to the warmth inside the woman's uterus, allowing the razors to spring apart and perform the abortion. Why this didn't shut Gosnell down immediately, for all time, is a mystery to me. See Gosnell's Babies: Inside the Mind of America's Most Notorious Abortion Doctor.
Ruth Pelke died of 33 stab wounds inflicted by 3 dumb teenaged boys. See Notorious 92: Indiana's Most Heinous Murders in All 92 Counties.

(Ruth with her husband, Oscar Hugo Pelke)
Jane Hilburn was murdered by Gary Walker; another woman escaped with her life. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.
We also lost Terra-Janine Gardner. See Invisible Victims: Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women.

Gary Taylor killed Susan Jackson. He probably tortured her first. That's the kind of a guy he was. See 50 American Serial Killers You've Probably Never Heard Of: Volume 3.
Renee Waddle was raped, tortured and burned alive. See https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/04/1...

(Renee, L, with possible sister victim Jolene Lakey)
Ruth Masters was killed and then mutilated with a knife. It took ages to clear this case but they finally did it. See https://www.southcoasttoday.com/artic...
Elton Jackson killed Sam Aliff. See 50 American Serial Killers You've Probably Never Heard Of: Volume 6.

Fishface | 19005 comments 5/15 is the day they executed Jay Pinkerton for his crimes. See https://murderpedia.org/male.P/p1/pin...
Somebody -- probably James Greenidge -- killed Dickie Hovey. See Cold North Killers: Canadian Serial Murder.

June Devaney, a 3-year-old, was spirited away from a hospital bed, raped and murdered. Good crime-scene preservation and forensic work caught the killer, a young soldier named Peter. See https://murderpedia.org/male.G/g/grif...

Peter Griffiths, already a murderer at age 26
Melissa Walbridge was raped and murdered with an unusual array of injuries, including being shot repeatedly with a BB gun. her best friend, Megahn O'Rourke, escaped alive and got help. See Death of Innocence: The True Story of an Unspeakable Teenage Crime.

In the article shown at the top of this news page, killer Louie Hamlin is at L, his accomplice Jamie Savage
Sam Pirrera killed his wife Beverly. He wouldn't stop there, either. See, again, Cold North Killers: Canadian Serial Murder.

Rob Peace was gunned down in his tracks. The case has not been solved. See The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace: A Brilliant Young Man Who Left Newark for the Ivy League.
Rima Traxler vanished. It was Joe Kondro again. He was another Peter Griffiths type. See https://mylifeofcrime.wordpress.com/2...

Once again it's the anniversary of the day Charles Floyd -- the serial killer, not the bank robber -- killed Panta Lou Liles. See Hunting Humans: The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, Vol. 2.

We also lost Ian Brady 3 years ago today. Boo hoo? See Ian Brady: The untold story of the Moors Murders.

(L to R, Maureen Smith, who called the police and broke the Moors Murders case; her de facto brother-in-law, Ian Brady; and his accomplice serial killer, Myra Hindley, Maureen's sister)

Fishface | 19005 comments 5/16 is the day Joey Miller killed the unlucky Selina Franklin. See https://www.abc27.com/news/convicted-...

(Selina's funeral)
Francisco Montes barged into a room full of sleeping girls in a youth hostel and killed Joanna Parrish. See Wolf Man: The True Story of Francisco Arce Montes - The First Global Serial Killer.
Braeden Nugent killed the equally unlucky Victor Wilson. See Canadian Monsters: 25 Horrific Serial Killer Cases.

Overall, though, this is a theme day full of very tragic twosomes:
Lewis Winslow, 12, and his 10-year-old brother Nelson were abducted on this day by Gordon Northcott. It got worse from there. See Nothing Is Strange with You: The Life and Crimes of Gordon Stewart Northcott.

Norma Jean Armistead talked her way into Kathryn Viramontes's home, killed her and did an amateur C-section on her, making off with the baby, who amazingly survived this brutal treatment. See Alone With the Devil: Famous Cases of a Courtroom Psychiatrist.
And then the tales of two twosomes: Maybelle Martin and Dorothy Walsh, who were chaperoning two young girls at a teen modelling event, were kidnapped and strangled. The two girls, Alecia Thoma and Monica Berge, were kidnapped along with them but were still alive at this point. See https://murderpedia.org/male.C/c/codd...

(Maybelle, L, and Dorothy, R)
