Kristina | 8 comments Hello Adrea! I like historical fiction, sci-fi, and sometimes a little of contemporary fiction. Usually, I read juvenile fiction, but I'm trying to get into YA and adult books (just harder to find clean books in those genres)

Thank you, Andrea, Loraine, and Kate, for the warm welcome and the congratulations on my book.

Julianne Dumas | 5 comments When you think about it, there are a lot of stories written by Charles Dickens, Victor Hugo, Alexander Dumas, Louise Alcott, Laura Ingram-Wilder, and even Ann Sewell. I like to read stories by these authors because not only is there usually a moral message but a history of that time period.

Kristina, I enjoy sci-fi too, when I can find a good clean author. I've created a shelf for the ones I've read if you want to check it out. :)

Have you tried The Girl Who Could See The Girl Who Could See by Kara Swanson by Kara Swanson? It's YA scifi and so good!

For historical, I like virtually anything by Kim Vogel Sawyer, but I recommend beginning with this one:
My Heart Remembers My Heart Remembers by Kim Vogel Sawyer

And I love a good emotional, contemporary story. One of my favorite authors is Christina Suzann Nelson.
What Happens Next What Happens Next by Christina Suzann Nelson

Welcome to the group, Theona. No, there is no actual virtual meet-up. The book club discussions of the book of the month take place in the thread for that book. It's not a typical 'book club discussion night', but we've had some interesting discussions over the years I've been a member here.
We are glad to have you with us, but will understand if our 'text only format' doesn't quite work with what you're looking for.
God bless!🙂

Emmy (emmymel) | 1 comments Hello, friends! I'm new to the group and the goodreads in general. Not sure yet how everything works, but the welcome letter helped (thanks!). I recently started my passion for reading (not so recently. It was in 2020, haha), so I thought it was about time to try goodreads.
Anyway, I'm Emmilly (or Emmy for short), im Brazilian, and I'm excited to be a part of this awesome group! :)

message 716: by Shaunna (new)

Shaunna (mamashaunna) | 1 comments Hello everyone! I’m super excited to have found this group! I love to read, and always have, but my interests have always leaned toward fantasy, and in the last few years onto the spicier side. As I began my spiritual journey almost a year ago, I want to find some Christian-friendly reads that will give me the thrill I look for in a book (not the spicy part, obvs) and could possibly tandem read with my preteen daughter. Fantasy and dystopian are my go-tos, but I also love a good mystery. Not huge on romance, but I’m certainly open to try!

Have you read Kara Swanson's The Girl Who Could See? It's scifi and Young Adult (YA).

message 718: by Sherry (new)

Sherry Bendorf (jstbuzznby) | 2 comments Hi there. I am excited to be part of this group. I'm relatively new to Goodreads groups as well. I read primarily romantic suspense, but also some Historical and Biblical fiction sprinkled throughout. I am not a very fast reader, so looking at the reading challenges seems overwhelming to me, but also intriguing. I'd like to participate, if I'm able too. I do well if I am able to read 3 books a month, audiobook is my preferred way of reading.

I have tried to read books in adult fiction, but seem to be disappointed because of the content, so I am glad that Christian fiction is becoming so much more accessible. I am having a good time checking out all the recommendations in the threads so far.

message 719: by Andrea, Hospitality Coordinator (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 6243 comments Mod
Welcome, Sherry! The monthly challenges might be a good place to start. Some readers read only one or two books for them, and that is perfectly acceptable. The point is to have fun while we're reading books.

I know what you mean about questionable content. It's so prevalent these days. I'm grateful for the Christian authors who refrain from using such nonsense in their books. Have you tried Carrie Turansky or Kim Vogel Sawyer? They're two of my favorites in historical Christian fiction.

message 720: by Sherry (new)

Sherry Bendorf (jstbuzznby) | 2 comments I have read both of those authors. I especially enjoyed The Librarian of Boone's Hollow. So, so good! Thanks for the warm welcome!

message 727: by T.D. (new)

T.D. Fleming | 2 comments I just found this group. My name is Todd but I write under TD. In terms of Christian fiction, I am big fan of Frank Peretti (especially Piercing the Darkness and The Oath) and Ted Dekker...especially the Thomas Hunter Chronicles.

I write clean YA/New Adult romance/suspense. I released my first book this year (a paranormal suspense/romance centered around spiritual warfare) and will likely release a second one in a few months (a YA sports romance).

We attend a wonderful church in Northern Virginia.

Hi! I've been exploring the group feeds the last two days, and once I found the one on read-a-holics, I knew I'd found a home. I'm not happy if I don't have access to books, and now that I have an ereader app on my phone, I never have to be without. Looking forward to learning more about what Christian fiction is available, especially in the cozy, general fiction or humour categories.

Welcome, all!

Here are a few of my recommendations for newbies to Christian fiction:

Women's historical fiction (romance is NOT the main thread): My Heart Remembers by Kim Vogel Sawyer

Regency (romance): The Apothecary's Daughter by Julie Klassen

Contemporary women's fiction: Shaped by the Waves by Christina Suzann Nelson

Suspense: Life Flight (Extreme Measures, #1) by Lynette Eason

Legal suspense: Beyond Justice (Hidden Justice, #1) by Cara C. Putman

Historical romance: Shadowed by Grace by Cara C. Putman

Anthology (I'm one of the authors in this one, but all the stories are really good): Springtime in Surrey by Kellyn Roth

Thanks for the recommendations. I may try the anthology. Looks like a good way to find several new authors, and I love books set in England.

Mark Kadoshnikov (infinityrealm) | 1 comments Hello Folks, My name is Mark and my wife Sarah and I just self-published our first Christian Sci-Fantasy book for adults. I'd love some feedback from any of you guys if you're interested in reading it. You can read it for free on Netgalley, or I can send you a link to be on my ARC team if you're interested. It's called The Respian Man, first book in the Kingdom of the Infinity Realm Series (since it's the first book, it's light on biblical stuff). I'd also love people's feedback on my cover. Is it a cover that you'd click on when shopping for a book?
