I wake up almost to late. I almost jump up. running to the front door I open the box inside I find a strange emotion one I had never seen before, it was almost a purple. it was a color that made me want to hop up and down for no reason a color that made me want to run to my neighbor and give him a kiss and tell him that I like his garden it makes me want to sit in the grass and smelled it for no reason at all. breathing it in, I do jump up a down. I feel like I can do what ever I want, I could jump from buildings and swim I the ocean. I squeal and jump up and down, I run inside, and jump around I smile for the first time, it feels wonderful. I spend the entire day just running around with a smile, people stare but with joy, with happiness for me. and I know that I would never, ever, forget what it was like to be happy. emotions are the best thing that has happened to me.

“I’m old and dying. I want someone like you young and free to finally get the feeling of happiness.” she said and then gave me a part of her and left.
I finally felt something. It felt warm and good. Like butterflies in my stomach. Then I realized. It was happiness.

One day though, we went down, board game in hand. Everyone else was too busy, but I thought I saw a shadow flit from the corner of the room. I quickly dismissed it, thinking it was a trick of the light. When we went back though, I saw it again, this time a little bigger. I started to worry, but I didn't say anything. Everytime we came it was bigger, coming to be as big as half of the room.
I finally told them.
They didn't believe me, refusing to believe that it was anything more than shadows from the trees above, streaming through the window. The next time, I didn't come, fearing the mysterious shadow. A day later, they didn't come to school, not responding to any of my calls or texts. I was scared. I got paranoid, refusing to be out later than 7pm, always carrying around a flashlight.
Finally, a week later, me and the worried parents got news. Their bodies had been found in the basement. When we arrived, the walls were covered in blood, dripping, spelling out a message,
"I'm coming for you".
I ran from the room, crying. I stopped outside, realizing it was 8:30.
Oh no. The shadow loomed, fresh blood spilling over it's hideous teeth, eyes flashing. "I found you", it said in a singsong voice.
It lunged.
My friends and I loved to go down to their basement to play after school.

"You may now kiss the bride." The priest in charge of their wedding announced.
The couple leaned into the other, looking only at each other, as if no one else was in the room. There was only Somnium and Rem, as far as the other noticed. They kissed, and everyone rejoiced. Somnium pulled back, laughing softly. Eyes glowing with pure happiness and hope.
Later that day at the reception, while everyone was gathered around in a circle around the newly wed couple, Somnium looked to her mother and beamed with delight.
"Mother!" Somnium called out happily. "Might you tell us the story of my birth?"
Unable to help herself, she obliged. "Of course, darling." She coughed for dramatic effect and sat down.
"My daughter loves this story, you see. Partially because it shows both of our strengths in surviving, partially because everything turned out okay." She explained. "When I was in labour, I happened to be very sick which caused complications with the pregnancy. It took a lot of effort and will for both of us to survive that fateful night. Though, eventually, we both pulled through. Bringing joy and relief to our family. We celebrated and rejoiced for the Lord's mercy. That's when I decided to name my daughter Somnium." By now, everyone was listening intently, leaning forward as if they could get to hear the story first. "I named her Somnium because we are all from European descent; and in Latin, that means 'day-dream'. Day-dream for all her life will ever be." Tears started running down her cheeks, as everyone looked on with confusion in their eyes. She finally remembered. "Day-dream because no matter how hard we fought, how hard we prayed, how many doctors we sent her to, at the end it wasn't enough. Day-dream for the life she never got to live, so I had to live it for her. Day-dream because her husbands name is Rem. Rem for reality and Somnium for the life that was never really hers, a life made up of my day-dreams.
She looked up towards the ceiling, wistfully thinking. She breathed in a shaky breath. Despite everything, she smiled.
