Don't want to hear that... I'm falling behind on BRs... I have way too many this week... Choko & Soo just added Hawk to the pile... and Virginie & Anni added half of Armageddon Outta Here & Dark Days...

Yes, very slow.

Lol. I listen between 2.75-3.5 depending on the narrartor. I think when I listened to this one is was hoopla which only goes up to 2x.

Hahaha

Hoopla updated sometime around October, and now goes up to 3x... I was so happy, since I'd just started listening to everything at 3x... but you're the first confirmation about the change I've gotten...
I bought a new phone in September, and updated everything... so I couldn't remember if they added 2.5-3x options, or I just never used them before, since I hadn't tried going above, yet...

That's weird... I have an iPhone, but usually updates like that go to all marketplaces... is there an update you can get in your app store?
Hoopla started allowing 3x speed when I got the Greenlit Audiobook app for 3x speed listening to other books... but that shouldn't be related... Greenlit uses a ton more battery than Hoopla/Audible/iBooks...
Audible goes up to 3.5x, I know...

I tend to slow down, a bit, at the start of a new fantasy series/etc, but once I'm used to the characters, I speed it back up...

I think that has a lot to do with how the app is speeding up the audio... what stopped me from increasing from 2x to 3x for so long, was finding an app that did it right...
Done right, 3x speed just sounds like someone speaking in a bit of a rush, without taking breaths, really... you only really noticed how sped-up it really is, when the audiobook includes music at the start/end or on chapters...

Are you usually listening at increased speeds when commuting, or doing something brainless? I'm listening on Audible w/ Kyle McCarley as narrator and he's a pretty good pace.

brainless & semi-brainless... driving, playing video games without important story (Action RPGs, MMOs, etc)... sometimes I even leave it playing while I'm reading/typing on GR/reddit, but not often...

Still gonna read/try, but probably gonna do a couple other BRs first...

Yes, ver..."
Uh oh...in that case I'll just use the 14 day reprieve and push this back a bit...I have 3 BRs s13-15 NOT counting this one. And I'm yet to start this one and Ten Thousand Doors...
Still planning on doing this tho...

EDIT: @Brian: I'm an audio noob (I've listened to maybe four audiobooks before this) and I'm doing the Moontide Quartet at 1.75x and got used to the pace....so much so that I have to force myself not to crank it up to 2. It's one of those things that you can never (or rather its really hard and seems extremely futile) go back to a lower setting once you get attuned and I think @Virginie was explaining how there is tech to counter the squealies...

I'm actually greatly enjoying this book... maybe because it's easy to follow... I think I'm going to recommend it to Anni... it kinda reminds me of the Queen's Thief in some ephemeral way...
Around 60%... it's definitely political story, and coming of age (as the reviews mention alot)...
Random comment: I seem to be reading a lot of books that Mayim rated 5 stars, lately... and it feels weird :D

So... I'm 2 minutes from the end... I think my favorite thing about this book is how Maia's growth is never really commented on... it just creeps up on you, until you suddenly realize how much more confident in his actions he becomes...
I can see why some people say nothing really happens in this book (action-wise)... maybe you just need to be in the right mood for the book... as a result of the tone, I found the book very relaxing... I was just happy with Maia's decisions in general... none of that screaming at the character in my head that some books can induce :D
At this point, I just wish the author wrote more... it doesn't seem like she's released too many things, and it took 4 years to announce a semi-sequel was in the works (different MC, same world, similar time period)... and now it's going on 6 years from release, and little seems to be known about this sequel... she DOES have an alt-historical coming out this year, tho, so I might check that out... the blurb is vague and mostly says that the book isn't what you think it is...

Just learned she's published quite a bit under her name Sarah Monette - https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
I'm halfway through Goblin Emperor and it's refreshing reading a character like Maia. Some of the disputes brought to the emperor seem trivial and I have a vague understanding of them, hopefully I'm not penalized at the end for not knowing. I think the bridge thing will be important so trying to wrap my head around that.

I "ethically" started on the 30th to keep within the rules and read a couple pages...I'll wind this around all my other reads and keep my updates to the minimum...won't bomb the thread...just populate it abit in case someone else starts the book and decides to reuse this space...
If anyone is here/wants to read with me.....
