Hi :) new to the group! I am from Melbourne , and love reading books , find it really therapeutic and super enjoyable 😺
Genres-wise, I love non-fiction , fiction, and autobiographies, and a bit of sci-fi
Really excited to be part of this group
Welcome Madina!! Lovely to have you with us :DPlease make sure you check out the Toppler, it would be the perfect activity for Stage 4 lockdown. Hope you're staying safe down there :)
Uggh my apologies Madina, I just noticed that I got “auto-corrected” 🤦♀️ some kind of welcome that is 😞

Welcome Madina 😀
Good morning/afternoon everyone ;-)
My name is Katie, I live in England and at the ripe age of 42 I have decided I want to incorporate reading into any downtime I have. Reading never really featured high on my list of things I want to do but, for whatever reason, I have felt the pull.
I took myself off to my local library yesterday and picked up a few books and my lovely hubby bought me a Kindle to stoke the reading fire, (honestly I think it was to hide the fact that he had just bought a new xbox game, but I'm not complaining).
I am a bit of a chatter box, (actually a lot of a chatter box) and hope to make some bookish friends.

Hi Sandra! I am glad to hear it :-) I am hoping it will become my new addiction lol.

Welcome Katie! Lovely to have you join us, and hopefully we can help with stoking the pull to read :DIf nothing else, we have some great conversations around here. So as another chatterbox, look forward to you joining in ;)
Where roughly in the UK are you based? We have a lot of UK members.
Welcome Katie! I rhink reading is a great way to spend your downtime. And of course, chatting away on here.
Welcome Katie. I hope we'll be able to stoke that fire as well. You're just in time to start the September activities.
Welcome Katie! We're a bunch of bookloving chatterboxes here so you found a good place :)Also, don't hesitate to tell us about the books you read and how you liked them, as we would all be happy to give you recommendations based on your likes and dislikes :)

I am hoping to read some great books with you guys and any recommendations very welcome. I think, based on my TV watching, I am going to enjoy Thriller/Crime/Mystery with a sprinkle of Historical Fiction but I really want to try a bit of everything.
It's always great to have people welcome a chatty nature lol. My husband is always telling me to "stop going on" lol. He says it in a nice way but I can bend his ear quite a bit. I was always the one in the classroom who was told to be quiet or to sit by myself hehe.
I'm in the South in a place called Yateley. It's great as we are not too far from London or a beach if the mood takes us.

Thanks Sarah! I've really enjoyed myself today. Sat in the sun, glass of vino and my book - just lovely.

Thanks very much Peggy. Honestly, the only books I've read are ones we were made to read at school. I enjoyed Of Mice and Men and To Kill a Mockingbird but plan to read again at some point as it was such a long time ago.
I'm open to all suggestions ;-)

Sounds perfect!
Katie wrote: "I'm in the South in a place called Yateley. It's great as we are not too far from London or a beach if the mood takes us."Oh lovely! It seems like a good distance to be from London but still able to experience the city when you want. My brother lived a similar distance out but more north. You definitely have the advantage I think of being closer to the beach.
Glad you had a relaxing Sunday :D

I'd say (from experience) that your tastes in movies/shows will not always be the same for your tastes in books, I like the typical thriller/mystery/action and horror but I realised after reading that my taste in books is way different, thats why I had a hard time finishing books and honestly I hate reading horror books but I like horror movies? yeah its confusing. Reading and watching is waaaaay too different, you take it all in and more personal with reading.
so I'd recommend you try different genres and see which you prefer

I walked in on my partner and my Mum having a conversation a couple of years ago, and he said "Yeah, I just let her talk for the 20 mins in the car on the way home. I can't get a word in edgewise anyway, and that way once we're home I can zone out for a bit." And Mum replied "That's good. We've all had to work out strategies."
Rude.

A friend asked me the other day who did the most talking during my hair appointment. I told her that was a silly question. When you live alone, you take any opportunity to chat and make up for lost time.
@Rusalka - yes definitely the best of both worlds. I prefer living where we do, rather than a big city but at least I don't have to go very far to go to the theaters, shows, shops etc.
And, OMG - so rude!! I'm sure they would miss our chatter if we stopped ;-).
@Janice - hairdressers are the best! You can just chit chat away and they actually want you too.
@Bash - very sound advice! I picked a selection from the library just to get a feel for different books. It can be so hard to know where to start, sometimes you just have to plunge in and see what happens.

LOL My husband says I never stop talking. When we first married he was finishing college. He used to take a recorder to class. One time he left it at home. It was recording. He realized then that I actually rarely do stop talking. I was on the phone first. Then I was talking to my plants.

I bet your plants are growing extremely well and are very happy Renee :-)

Hii everyone! I am Selma, I discovered my love for reading recently.I love to read everything.
Except for Fantasy and sometimes Young adult.
But I don't mind trying to if the book is worth it.
I would like to make friends and discuss books with them.
I would also love to buddy read.
❤️
Welcome Selma! Lovely to have you join us. No shortage of book suggestions and friends to chat to here, so look forward to getting to know you better. Keep an eye on the buddy read thread to see what's going on, and if you have something particular you would like to read, put up a suggestion!
