My husband and I will be alone this year. I told my niece and her family that would be best. I will miss her but It is best.I have been informed that I will be in the second wave of vaccines here. It will be health care workers and long term care facilities first. Then those of us who are immune compromised.
it can't come soon enough.
Oh I am getting a new kitten in a couple of weeks. My senior cat will not be amused
Rusalka wrote: "That sounds great Peggy! I know some chefs where doing that kind of thing for dates over lockdown in Melbourne. You ordered a pack each, it turned up with wine/cocktails, all ingredients and recipe..."Your picnic at Lake BG sounds perfectly relaxing. It might become a tradition. No more stressing over what to take for the shared plate.
I had my work christmas dinner tonight. It was awesome! The box was delivered yesterday. There was also wine. The starter was veggie, with Japanse rettich, grapefruit, fennel, cucumber, avocado cream and lemon vinaigrette, the main was halibut with couscous salad, and the desert was chocolate mousse with salted lemon sauce and cocoa crumble. And some other things in all the dishes that I don't know the translations for. But it felt so nice! There were about 180 colleagues online, and all dishes were first explained and shown how to cook by the chef, and at the same time or after you could do it yourself. Rob offered to cook and all I had to do was enjoy and drink wine. There was wine.
The food was delicious and it still felt like being together even though everyone was at home. It made me feel so happy. It was one of the best evenings I've had since this all started in March.
I had a bit too much wine (3 glasses! The 2 bottles are empty now so Rob had the rest) and now I'm kind of dreading work tomorrow.
I love that so much, Peggy! What a fabulous idea that was. I'm so glad you enjoyed it (and the wine!) so thoroughly.
My holidays have started, I have 2 weeks off. I was soooooo in need of that! I felt so relaxed waking up this morning, knowing there's not a single thing I have to do in the next 2 weeks if I don't feel like doing it.
Lots of reading then, Peggy. Gary and I are having a week on Magnetic Island, a tropical island off Townsville so he can rest and relax from his major heart surgery. Harrison is with our son at the Gold Coast. Magnetic Island is beautiful and so not like the GC. No glitz here. It’s actually a bit hippy-ish, but suits us perfectly. I’ve read The Silence (not particularly impressed) and Jack. I was worried about starting this because I so loved Marilynne Robinson’s first 3 in the series, I didn’t want to be letdown. But thankfully I loved it.
That sounded like a wonderful diner, Peggy! A great alternative :)I need to work today and tomorrow and then I've got a week off. I really need it so bad.
I have gotten frustrated with deliveries. Their seems to be no logic in what is delayed. I think its happening every where. The delivery services have become overwhelmed. I ordered something 4 weeks ago. It should have been here 6 days ago. I ordered some cat food that was supposed to come in 2 weeks. It arrived in 3 days. I usually am more patient. But the item that hasn't arrived is a baby doll for a three year old. I know she won't understand that its coming. She will only know she doesn't have a present. It may be her lucky year. I have ordered another gift express. She may get two.
Same here Renee. Parcels always have a slight delay around the holidays, but this year it's worse. In addition to that, we went into lockdown again last Tuesday and all non-essential stores had to close too this time, so that increased online shopping even more.I'm glad I got my shopping done in time. I hope your doll arrives soon!
I started very early because I was worried about deliveries. My daughter and I spent all day Black Friday shopping online while she was in her house and I was in mine. It was very different from what we have been used to, but we had a lot of fun doing it. That being said, two small gifts I ordered really early have not yet arrived. I just received a notice saying they should be in the 22nd. While frustrating, I do understand that the delivery people have bees massively overwhelmed. So, I am just breathing deep, plastering a smile on my face and devising plan 2. In all fairness, the kids on my list are all set, so I don’t have that to worry about! Hang in there.
Your christmas party sounds amazing Peggy, what a great idea. My friends and I have our wreath making get together tomorrow. All the supplied have arrived and we just need to go look for some foliage to add to it. So we'll go for a walk tomorrow to collect some stuff then make the wreaths in the afternoon. I'll post what I come up with (if it's not awful). There is also a tractor convey coming through the village tomorrow, all decorated for Christmas so we'll probably go watch that for a bit. LAst year there were over a 100 tractors. Must remember not to drive anywhere local tomorrow otherwise I'll get stuck behind them all. Haha. Tonight we have a boater's online live stream party. Lots of music and festive greetings etc. Rob has done some of the video editing for the pre-recorded stuff. I did a quick festive greeting which will be included in it. So it should be a nice evening, wrapped up in the warm in our boat listening/watching that. I have spent the last two days drawing and painting dogs and cats for friends' Christmas presents. I have felt the pressure, especially as they didn't go to plan the first or second attempts! Rob is making frames for them.
It sounds that you'v got a nice evening planned, Sarah.Online orders and deliveries are insane at the moment...But, I will treat myself with an order for Bookdepository in a minute ;)
Peggy wrote: "I'd love to see your dog and cat drawings Sarah! It sounds like a lovely present."I'll sort some links out for you. Not sure I'll gift the cat one yet. Whilst it turned out well, it doesn't look much like her cats. Going to give it another go tomorrow.
The baby doll arriver this morning. It is a beautiful doll. It has blond hair and blue eyes just like its future owner. Lucky little girl will be getting two gifts because i panicked and ordered another
I'm glad to hear that Renee.I'm last minute crocheting. I planned to make a baby rattle for my nephew who will be born in March, and in the weekend I thought it would be nice to make it into a christmas present. They're not a lot of work, but I'm a slow crocheter. Luckily it's holidays and raining, and I haven't crocheted in a long time, so I'm really enjoying making this.

go Peggy go! You can do it!
I marathon-knit yesterday to finish my last gift. All I have left to do it block it and weave ends.
Peggy wrote: "What are you making Esther? You should post a pic when it's ready!"i never think about posting here as i cannot link pics from my ravelry account. I just finished a scarf to match the hat i did for my mom last year. she asked at the last minute so i did not have time to do both, This was the hat:

The scarf will follow when it is dry.
Sandra wrote: "Beautiful, Esther! And I am not a pink person..."I am not as well. My mother is, so I suffer. :)
In the last week I have suggested my library to buy two books it didn't own: The Glass Woman and The Survivors. I'm as happy as surprised that they sent me an email saying they are going to buy both. :)
