Kristie | 19154 comments That's really pretty, Saar.

How frustrating, Peggy. I'm surprised they are making you send it back.

I can't decide if those look like fun or if I'd just be frustrated because they don't come out the way I expected. I might be too much of a perfectionist...

message 1602: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I guess I'll discover that for myself once I get going. The first bit of furniture I made was not perfect, but it did come out much better than I ever expected I would manage. I was really proud of it, Rob said he would have made it again if it was him because he's such a perfectionist ;-) I figured that once everything's in there, you hardly notice the not-perfect parts.

Kristie | 19154 comments That's true, Peggy. There is so much to look at in the scenes. I may try one some day. They're really cute.

Sarah | 18550 comments I bought a juicer this week. A friend of mine recently started using one and it inspired me. I've been really enjoying coming up with different combinations. It's a great way to get extra fruit and veg into your diet. I'm very happy with it.

I started seeing clients last week online. I'm so pleased to be back working. I had really missed it. I'm still not comfortable going back to face to face working yet though.

I went out during the week for the first time by myself since the beginning of March. It was so strange. I was a little overwhelmed but it all went off without a hitch.

Thanks for asking :) I don't know how she's doing now. She hasn't been very in touch. I've texted her that I'll have 3 weeks off from tomorrow and she had to talk about it with her girlfriend, but I've haven't heard back. I've asked her girlfriend yesterday when I can visit. Normally in the 2nd week of my vacation. I don't try to think much about it, because my grandmother is so pushing on asking how she is, but the practical side (burial, bills...) doesn't botter the family. It all comes on my shoulders.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Twice a week usually dad picks my son up and from 3-4 he does a virtual chess club from our house. So yesterday I ran in house at 430 I see computer and phone but no boy. I holler, nothing. Whatever. Use bathroom walk through house no boy. Walked through 3 times no boy. Whatever, except recently there have been a lot of burglaries in the area sonin the back of my head is how did someone snatch my kid when I've been around farm all afternoon. Ok so my wife must have come home picked him up and they ran errands, but weird she didn't call me. So I put my shoes on walk outside and start to pull my phone out to call my wife and double check and just then she pulls in. Wife and daughter get out. Ok weird. I tell my wife I can't find the boy and her face goes white. At that moment suddenly I'm now actually concerned. The three of us go inside and look and call. Yell if he's hiding it's not funny just come out now etc. Ended up he was in the backyard laying in the hammock. Lol. Was only funny after we found him

message 1610: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11630 comments Oh Travis, you must have been frantic! It's not funny when you can't find them, we've all been there!

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Oh Travis, that's scary! I'm glad he was found safe and probably very dopey in the hammock.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11263 comments It has happened to me, and it is crazy how common sense leaves you at once! It's horrible! Glad he was ok.

message 1613: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments So we live pretty secluded. Neighbors are a mile away in either direction and our front steps are almost exactly 1000 ft from the road. That said the next house down the road lives a child molester which unfortunately in America almost everyone has some sort of sex offender down the street. It's never bothered me. I don't know what happened. He allegedly did something to his daughter or step daughter he lost his job and as far as I know no jail time. In fact I don't know if he's a registered offeckder or what I've never looked into the outcome. In my mind if he did something it was opportunistic as they lived there and no history of just random kids. Also there was a divorce or something before that so I don't know if he did something or the kids got dragged into it.. one just never knows the truth. Point is usually pedos have a type and in my mind he isn't pursuing random kids. So we don't live in fear but I have toldmy wife a few years ago I'd hope he isn't stupid enough to touch our kids because I'll just walk down there and kill him and I really don't want to kill anyone. The real inconvenience is my wife mentioned the kids riding their bikes to someone's house which means going by his house and I said no they can't just go unsupervised by there. So while we don't live in fear there's still that warning inside you that says don't be stupid and don't throw the temptation out there. Long story short here boy was I glad the kid was in the hammock and had nothing to do with the child molester down the road. For everyone's sake.

It sucks we even have to have people like that in the world. You just wonder how their brains get wired wrong and they do these things.

message 1614: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11263 comments I totally get it. It is scary. We have quite a few registered offenders in our area. Also 3 or 4 years ago a colleague of my husband was found keeping lots of child pornography in his computer and prosecuted. He is not someone my husband had a personal relationship, but still it was TOO close to home. It is truly scary.

message 1615: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11263 comments When I said about the common sense leaving you I was thinking of an episode we have at home when I totally lost all common sense. We arrived from the lake and when we were all off the cars I couldn't find my 4 years old son. I panicked thinking we had left him at the lake (30 minutes away) even I could perfectly remembering fasting his seat belt and talking to him during the trip. I knew it wasn't possible but we couldn't find him anywhere so I just panicked and kept saying my husband that we had left him. His flip flops were at the door, for God's sake, bit only stateI was still sure he had abandoned him. What had happened was that I asked all of them to go directly to the bathrooms so we didn't spread sand everywhere in the house, so he wanted to be first and ran to my bathroom, took his swim suit off, and then thought that everyone was going to come and see him naked, so he picked his swim suit and hide behind an armchair I have in my bedroom. I almost had a heart attack.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11263 comments Well, I was doing some gardening and it happened to be a beehive hidden under a pile of leaves, and I accidentally broke it with the rake, because I didn't see it. The bees attacked me and long story short I have 6 stings in my legs and feet. It hurts like crazy...

Sandra (sanlema) | 11263 comments I'm feeling much better, thank you. It was a hard, painful night, but today it looks better. It is mostly annoyingly itchy.

I did some research and they are not bees, but yellow jackets. That explains why they were so agressive.

Nasty things! I hope you heal quickly. Funny how kids take over being the parent when the parent is ill. I heard, "Close your eyes, Mom. You need some sleep. Just close your eyes."

message 1626: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59907 comments I'm home from my stay in hospital. The procedure went well and the doctors were happy with the results. They did a follow up angiogram the next day to confirm that the stent and coils were doing what was intended. Once that was done, and I had lain prone for the required 4 hours, they got me up eating supper. Since I tolerated that well, they booted me out of the hospital. We stayed in the city for a couple more nights. I got home to my own bed last night and had the first night of undisturbed sleep in days. The ICU is a noisy place, not helped when there is an unruly patient refusing to comply and swearing down the place. No, that wasn't me. That was Darren. Funny what shape entertainment can take. :)

I'm pretty stiff and sore everywhere. Each day is better than the day before. I don't have a lot of energy, so will take some time to get caught up.

Roz | 4530 comments I'm glad to hear you're home and doing better, Janice. There's always a Darren somewhere around the corner offering entertainment.

message 1635: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Welcome back to YLTO Janice. So please it all went well. Darren sounds like a welcome distraction/entertainment. Although annoying when you're trying to get some kip I bet! Yes hospitals full stop are so noisy and not the best place for getting a good night's sleep.

I slipped on some foliage getting on to the plank on to our boat. I didn't fall but it jarred me. Now my thigh muscle is really stiff and tight. It has made getting in and out of the boat a bit tricky and getting up after I've ben sat down aches. It is easing off. Lukcily I don't have much to do at the moment. It's so hot at the moment here. We're due some major thunderstorms over the next 4 days so it should cool down a bit then. Having to spend vast amounts of time outside as it's too hot in the boat. I have some clients booked in this week which I'm not looking forward to. I might just melt.

message 1640: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59907 comments Thanks everyone. Each day shows a bit more improvement. I have a pain in my neck going up into my head that is causing me some grief. I dare not move quickly for fear of causing sharp pain. Right now, that's my biggest complaint. And the lack of energy.

I can empathize with your strained leg, Sarah.

message 1643: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Feel better soon Janice and Sarah!

It's hot here as well. We're in the middle of a heat wave. Where I'm from (in the south), it's 5 consecutive days over 35C (36-37 even). That has never happened. In all of the 20th century the record was 2 consecutive days of over 35, and that happened twice.. 3 or 4 days have occurred since 2000, but only a few times. The heatwave is expected to last for 8 or 9 days.

I'm on holiday right now in the north, where it's 31-32C. So still hot.. also, doesn't help that we're in a caravan which is like a sauna, so no place to cool off really. Nights aren't much better, it doesn't get any cooler than 22C.

message 1644: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59907 comments I hope you can find someplace cool, Peggy. Are you close to a lake where you can go swimming?

I'm good with temps around 25C. I know - Canadian! LOL!

message 1645: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11263 comments It is quite hot here too, with temperatures reaching 34-36 everyday since last Friday, and we still have a few more days. It has also been a very dry summer for us.

message 1648: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11630 comments It's only around 22C here but very humid. The temp/humidity hasn't been dropping at night though and it is hard to sleep. I'm grateful that we're not in the heatwave and I feel so sorry for you all around Europe.

I'm feeling pretty sorry for myself today too. My back was quite sore and I was a bit distracted when I was making lasagne. I chopped my thumb along with the carrots and leaned on 3 fingers of the same hand on the hot ring of my cooker. My hand is still stinging this morning! Moral of the story - don't cook when your mind isn't on the job 😰

message 1649: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Ouch Margo, sounds painful. I hope it eases soon.

My leg is pretty much back to normal now. Thanks everyone.

Glad to hear you are recuperating well Janice.

I sympathise with you Peggy re living in a metal box. It has been horrendous the last couple of days. We're due thunderstorms soon so hopefully that will cool things down a bit.

Theree is a massive sunflower field near here, sunflowers as far as the eyes can see. I went up there with some friends yesterday evening and took loads of photos. Absolutely stunning. A little itchy walking thrrough them but worth it. Then we watched a distant lightning storm and the persied meteor shower. It was a special evening.
