Sarah | 18550 comments Enjoy the new car Peggy. I was so pleased when I got my one. Shame I've barely used it because of lockdown.

Grainne Coughlan | 1298 comments That's quite a nice cycle. It would be a bit too far for me because I am out of practice! Congratulations on your new car. Happy and safe motoring.

How many types of transport do you have Sarah? A boat? Then a car? A bike?

Haha. I have a boat, a canoe, a bike (that has flat tires), a car, and my partner has a van! Not far off a full house on transportation modes.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Haha, I don't even drive ;-) it's a very nice one though and rob is super excited.

message 1306: by Grainne (new)

Grainne Coughlan | 1298 comments Wow Sarah! That's almost a full compliment of transportation methods! haha

It's great that you are getting a new car to replace the old one, Peggy. Even if you don't even drive, you will get the full benefit of it because you will be using it aswell, although from the passenger seat haha

Esther (nyctale) | 5194 comments I was not sure where to post this, do we have a "not YLTO-related events" thread???
Anyway, Congres Boreal (the EVENT for SF and fantasy in Quebec) associated with ImaginAtlas and went virtual. Most of it is in French but there is a bit in English. Amongst these, reads with Sylvain Nevel and Jo Walton. it's free. The event can be fond at:

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Did the functionality of the my groups discussion button (on the top right, next to the bell) change for other people too? Before, when I clicked on it, it was like the notifications button, with a drop down menu of threads which have been active. When I click on it now, it sends me to another page (which is very annoying!) with an overview of all my groups and I see only a few threads, unless I click on a button to see more.

Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments It has changed here also. It takes a moment to getting used to.

message 1314: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59897 comments @Esther - thanks for posting that link. I think this thread is as good as any place for this kind of content. It's an off topic thread about things that people want to share.

@Peggy - yes, it has changed and I'm not sure why. It's now the same link as if you used the "Community" drop down button and selected "Discussions".

Jayme | 4520 comments @Peggy - Apparently I have never hit that button so it looks brand new to me. Wish I would have discovered it earlier.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments The whole on-line version GR home page has changed again. No picture or banner. The notifications button still seems the same for me, but I only click on it if there is a number showing. I have always accessed YLTO from the Community - Groups tab, so that is still the same. I am not seeing a lot of notifications. I always access the newest updates from the on-line version, but can still see them from the "unread" messages in the Apple mobile app if I miss any.

message 1320: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I don't know why I don't stop by more often but with all of everything in the world right now it's nice to know this group is always here full of people from all walks of life who can communicate intelligently and with respect. One thing I've noticed all year other places is if it's not effecting you you don't care. Empathy and compassion are dead. And also a whole lot of people out there need to read some books. Ignorance seems to be contagious and the more ignorant a person is the more outspoken they seem to be. And third when did people forget how to listen. No one listens anymore they just drown out the noise with their own babble. Must be scared to hear an opposing point of view.

Oh hope everyone is doing good though lol

I just noticed today I hadn't even loaded the audible app. I've had to have had this phone at least 3 weeks. So I definitely haven't been reading

message 1331: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments It was great to be outside (such a shame to be inside with the lovely weather we've been having), and hearing the birds and the wind and everything. The only downside was that it's close to a playground and scouting was also doing something in the park. At one point 3 scouting guys were yelling at each other super close to us, and kids were crying and screaming somewhere else, and that made it a bit hard to not get distracted.

Sarah | 18550 comments Enjoy your yoga session Peggy! We jusy finished the 30 days off yoga with Adrienne. We've loved it. We're doing another 30 day programme she has compiled for June, this time it's a bit more full on.

message 1335: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm a bit worried about Rob. He completely lost his sense of smell and taste 3 months ago, and it still isn't anywhere near back to normal (but not completely gone anymore either). He had to wait 8 weeks to see if it would return, then he was sent to a specialist but because of corona there was no possibility for appointments except emergencies, then there was a waiting list, but now he can finally go next week. I'm thinking of all kinds of things it could be, from not so bad to very bad, but I don't think it will go back to normal by itself.

message 1336: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Last summer one day I went through the entire rage against the machine discography. I've kind of been heavy into listening to them since then. Maybe a month ago I listened with my kids to one whole album. I kept pointing things out. Was a little much for them but it's so weird how relevant that breakfast has become recently . Although I had to take them somewhere this weekend and o played straight Tupac. It's so much easier to open communication using music to break the ice.

So we raised the kids the best we could not labeling people. And we've felt we've done pretty good. Well Friday I think my son was talking to a girl on the phone a little bit older and she was giving him an earful on how evil Democrats are and how she's an honest hard working republican. She's like 13btw. Then she goes into how Obama was evil and Cuomo is evil because they support abortion. Then she tells him Trump saved this country because vwe were close to having a woman president and God put women on Earth to serve men and are far too emotional and lack leadership ability to be on positions of power . My wife finally said Ethan had to play a board game. While she was diving into all of this my son said well he voted for Trump. He was a trump supporter at the wise age of 6 lol . My wife said why did you vote for him. He says because Obama was a Muslim and he gave Muslims guns and they used them to kill Americans and Trump attacked the Muslims and saved thousands of US troops and protected America. My wife asked him what a Muslim is. He had no clue.

Long story short he spent about 2 hours researching and fact checking everything was surprised to find it wasn't all fact.

He was told he is free to make his choices but don't just drink the Kool aid. Research and look for the truth and make a decision. My wife and I are third party people we don't do the republican and Democrat stereotype BS. No matter how hard you try someone will infiltrate your children I guess.

Anyway been a lot of discussion around this place of lately

Kristie | 19148 comments Peggy, I always avoid outside yoga classes for that reason. I think I would just be too uncomfortable doing yoga with other people around who weren't in the class. I wouldn't be able to relax or focus.

Was Rob tested for coronavirus? Loss of taste and smell are some of the potential symptoms. I know people that happened too.

message 1338: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59897 comments @Peggy. I hope they find some answers for Rob.

@Travis. You've been busy putting out some fires. Yikes!

message 1339: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments We have thought of that too but he hasn't been tested. It's not on the list of official symptoms here (plus testing was at a minimum) and the GP he went to twice didn't even mention it. He also hasn't had any other symptoms and neither have I. I think if it was because of corona it should have returned to normal within a few days or weeks.

message 1341: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments @Peggy: great to hear about your yoga class that started again. Maybe it's not bad to get Rob tested as it's one of the symptoms. Here, now everybody can get tested.
It's my lucky week this week, because I've won 2 books!

Has he been given a coronavirus/antibody test at all to see if it was that?

It's good he has an appointment sorted for next week. Fingers crossed for it all and hope it's nothing serious.

message 1344: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Oops. Just seen others had mentioned the virus to you too Peggy in relation to Rob. This symptom was only added here a week or so ago. It can be the only symptom and remember people can be asymptomatic too. Also many people seem to be affected for quite some time by symptoms. Not just days/weeks.

message 1345: by Peggy (last edited Jun 04, 2020 02:27AM) (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Testing here is very limited. It was only for very specific groups of people with symptoms. As of Monday everyone who currently has symptoms can get tested, but if his loss of sense/smell was due to corona a test won't show it anymore as it started 3 months ago.

The antibodies test would be better, I'm hoping the specialist he sees next week will recommend that as well.

message 1346: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments My neighbor went to get the antibody test because she and her husband had a bad flu in January. They both were negative on antibody but she ended up positive for currently having the virus and was asymptomatic. This was about a month ago or so. Anyway I'd been around them a couple days before they went for the test. And that's how I ended up on 2 week self quarantine. I never went and got tested I took the online test to see recommended whatever and it told me CDC recommends you just self quarantine at this time. So that's what I did

message 1347: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I'm guessing you haven't had any symptoms Travis?

message 1348: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments No I haven't had any symptoms at all

message 1349: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments I hope they give Rob the antibody test too or at least they are able to tell you what is wrong rather quickly.

I wonder about the accuracy of these tests sometimes. I know people that had the full on symptoms - fever, difficulty breathing, exhaustion - that have tested negative. I wonder if there is a high incidence of false negatives? Maybe not getting into the correct area for the test? I know it's pretty deep in there.

Glad you never got sick, Travis.

It seems you got the situation handle. Learning them to think twice before believing something is a good thing. It seems to me that nowadays the norm is not take time to think/read before having an opinion.
I do not know how many time i posted an article on FB and someone commented and it was clear that the comment was based on the title because they had not bother to read but felt they had to say something anyway. This is driving me nuts.
