I think working from home is great but I have been for 2 years, so I have an office that is comfortable and well organized. Temporary office is more like camping. And you have to set rules about your working place being a not disturb place and this takes a while for kids to get it. But in the long run, unless you are not disciplined enough, I think it is more efficient. No commute. Meeting online usually does not last as long. The bad thing is you tend to work longer days, I woke up a 5h30 this morning and was in my office 10 minutes later as I had a message that could not really wait. It would have if I have to get ready and get to an outside office. Same on the evenings. You go back for 5 minutes to reply to an email and while you are there you do this and that and an hour has gone by.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Yes, you do need your own office, and a place you can leave behind at the end of the day. I work a half day from home every week, 1.5 or 2.5 days even during exam weeks when I have no teaching, and I work in the kitchen. That's fine. I moved to our 'study' (fancy word for the room with all our books and a computer) last Monday and under these circumstances, I prefer it. There's less distraction, I'm further away from cookies and chocolate, and I can just leave work behind. Also, when I wake up I used to just turn the computer on and basically eat my breakfast while answering emails, same with lunch. Now I have my breakfast in the kitchen, go for a walk, and then go upstairs to turn on my laptop. For lunch, I go downstairs to the kitchen and read a magazine or sit outside. It's a conscious effort, but given that I'll be teaching from home until the end of the academic year (mid-July), I figured it would be worthwhile to separate home and work a bit more.

I do notice it's much easier now to work when you shouldn't, like attending meetings that are scheduled outside of your work hours.

Oh 7.30 Report was wonderful on Thurs! I only ever grew up with one grandparent who lived on the other side of the world from me, so I never really got the connection. But watching my nephew's with my Mum, I really understand it and the fact she had to say she can't pick them up from school every day anymore was huge. So seeing all those little ones sending messages to people they miss broke my heart :(

Jenn | 3029 comments We are into week 3 as well. It wouldn’t be so bad if we were either both working or both off. But, I am working from home, and he is wandering around bored and treading on my last nerve most days 🤦‍♀️

message 1064: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments I have a rough couple of days behind my back...We had a new collegue since a couple of weeks now. We're working in a team of 6 people, but a couple of us (including me) had the feeling that there was something wrong with her. We had no connection with her, she was there, but 'not there'...And we've got a very responsible job. It's like she was 'off'. Then I've received a call on Monday from one of the collegue's saying that she committed suicide. She was only working 3 weeks here, but still it felt unreal. And on top of it all: the doctor tested her post mortem and she got corona, but didn't knew. Now we're asking to be tested, but our responsable says we can't! We work in a hospital at the reception desk. I mean, it's ridiculous!

message 1065: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Oh wow Saar. I'm sorry to hear about your work colleague. That's awful. I know the current situation is causing people a lot of difficulties, especially those already with mental health issues. I suspect we'll hear of more suicides during this time. I wonder why they chose to test her for coronavirus. Did they suspect? Is it routine there? I definiteely think you guys should get tested, especially as you work in a hospital.

message 1066: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments That is horrible, Saar. I agree you should be tested and quarantined. I hope someone decides to do it.

message 1067: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments We started yoga with adrienne today. Decided Betty Rocker was too full on for now so going to strengthen our muscles with yoga and restart couch to 5k for cardio.

message 1068: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments Thanks everyone. I just can't get my head around it. We suspect that she had mental issues. There were some in the past, but because we only knew her for 3 weeks, we don't know a lot. We can talk about it in our team, but there's a lot of doubt about or responsable person of the team. She keeps saying we don't need to panic and keeps other things for herself. Me and another collegue talked to someone of the staff, about our concerns, but so far nothing...One of our team members her husband is heart patiënt and her daughter has an auto - immuun disease, but the doctor refuses to get her tested. Before she committed suicide, she was caughing and short of breath and one of our colleague asked her if she had corona, with a joking undertone, but she denied. She got tested post mortem, so I think she didn't knew. There is no routine here, only if new people get admitted, they're testing them. Also nurses who work with quarantined patients, patients who are possibly infected...As a reception desk we get daily contact with patients, but because we're not care takers, we won't get tested. The confidence now in our team responsable is very low now. It's just crazy...

message 1073: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments Saar, I don't understand why they don't test people in your situation. What is the purpose of everyone else staying home if the people at the hospital reception desk are potentially spreading the virus to a lot of people every day? It makes no sense.

Sarah, I'll have to look into yoga with Adrienne. I could use a good yoga program right now.

message 1074: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments 3 of the 5 of us wants to get tested, but I don't understand why it can't...If we all need to be quarantined, then we wouldn't have a reception desk at all. Maybe that's the problem.

I can use some yoga too! Maybe I'll try it.

Janice (jamasc) | 59897 comments Please people, can we keep any discussion connected to the virus to the thread dedicated to it's purpose. Some people are trying to distance themselves from the news or discussion and they need to know when they come to this thread, they won't have to wade through corona talk. I know it's hard because it seems like it overshadows everything we do these days.

Renee (elenarenee) | 1650 comments Saar sorry to hear about you collogue. Its funny I just posted in the corona chat before I read this that this situation is triggering a depression. Sarah | 18550 comments The moon is gorgeous tonight. It's full and it's pink!!!

message 1081: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I went outside to see Sarah. Full and bright, but not pink here.

I did some online shopping for stuff to do in the next few weeks. I bought a 16+ Lego set of 1300 or so pieces for Rob. It's a Volkswagen campervan that he's been looking at every time we see it in a store. But it's relatively expensive so he never buys it, so I did. I figured with our cancelled holidays and the money we got back we can treat ourselves. Lego is nowhere near the price of a holiday! It's still a surprise, I'll give it to him when he's bored. Or when I need some me-time.

We also bought two homebrew beerkits, a easy window clean machine, and paint to finally make the second half of our garden lounge set.

I also bought books and a new colouring books. Both of which I really don't need more of.

I'm ready for the Easter weekend! Yay, 4 days off!

message 1082: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments @Renee: good for you to let people know that you're struggling. My colleague struggled before all this, apparently, but that doens't matter.

@Peggy: oh, you bought the VW campervan! I looked over and over in the toystore to buy it, but I didn't and I like the Lego Mini Cooper too. I hope Rob will have much fun.

Is anyone doing diamond painting? I'm interested in it, but I don't know if it's to difficult.

This looks so nice! I almost wish I didn't have to work so that I had time for all that!

I'm working on a diamond painting. It's super easy, I like it exactly because it doesn't require me to think. I'm not sure if there are different kinds, but it's like painting/colouring by numbers, except you have the little stones instead of pencils and paint.

message 1086: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments Haha, I still need to work, but I ordered it as a bit of me - time ;)
I've watched the tutorial for diamond painting and it seems easy, just for the removing of the plastic.

I hadn't heard of this chocolate and just googled it and they have it at The Whole Foods store up the street!! Diamond painting and new chocolate - learning a lot today!

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments You should try it Jayme! It's Dutch and slave-free. They only recently expanded to the UK and a few places in the US.

message 1092: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments I have a diamond painting project, but haven't had a chance to try it yet. I've heard that they are relaxing in a similar fashion to adult coloring.

Currently, all my time is taken up with my grandson who is visiting for a while. I've just figured out how to do his online schooling stuff with him. We've been baking (peanut butter cookies and pumpkin muffins) and doing projects (coloring Easter eggs and making a centerpiece). I just pulled out my old keyboard for him because he wants to try playing. He keeps me busy!

I just looked into that chocolate and they have it in a couple of stores in the city or you can order it and have it shipped. I'll have to try it at some point. I'm always up for trying a new chocolate.

message 1093: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Oh yes, come to think of it, I have heard of diamond painting before - when Peggy and Kristie were talking about it on here a while back.

message 1094: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments So it wasn't just my keyboard that was broken on my laptop :-( I think the motherboard is fried too. It was odd as when I plugged in the new keyboard, at first it all worked fine and I was able to get some of my data off. Then it started on go slow and it was taking ages to select files etc. In the end it stopped doing anything. So I haven't got all my business stuff off, although I was able to get my accounts off which is the most important thing. So I'll have to get a new laptop. I have a gadget that I can plug the hard drive from my laptop into so I can get the data off, so hopefully I can get it all when I get my new laptop. Could have done without this.

message 1095: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I always try new chocolate when I'm in other places. Germany and Belgium were heaven!

Sounds like you're having fun with your grandson Kristie.

Sorry to hear about your laptop Sarah. I'm glad you didn't lose data.

message 1096: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments Oh that's disappointing, Sarah. My old laptop had something weird happen to it. One day I picked it up and it wouldn't close. It turned out that something happened to the mousepad and it swelled up or lifted somehow. It's the strangest thing. I still have a lot of stuff on that laptop that I don't want to lose. I store my pictures, as well as audiobooks and a bunch of ebooks from an old program I used to use among other things. At some point I'm going to have to figure out how to get everything moved over to a new laptop.
