Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Definitely show us the scarf Kristie!

I'm not in a reading slump, it's more like I feel I don't have enough time to get to my book. Usually I read in the train but I don't do that now. And now it's the weekend and first I did the usual weekend chores, and Rob's at home too, and he likes to do stuff together all day. And I like that too, of course! But I also really like to have some time for myself. Hopefully there's a boring movie or car show on tv tonight that he wants to watch ;-)

message 902: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments Maybe that's part of it, Peggy. Craig is working from home. It seems weird to be reading when he's working so I'm working around the house. Maybe I just need to think of my reading as work. lol

message 903: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Lol, I can relate to that! There have been times on Saturday afternoon when I finished cleaning and such and was just about to sit down with a book, when Rob decides to do a thorough cleaning of the kitchen, or to clean windows, or work in the garden.. I don't feel comfortable sitting on the couch then (even though he sat on the couch while I cleaned the bathroom and do the vacuuming), so there goes the reading time ;-)

I'm feeling the same way. thought I was in a slump too, but I think my mind is just distracted. I usually read really quickly, but it is taking me forever to read a book. I realized that we need no-brainer distractions here, so I ordered a few puzzles on line and Henry and I started to work on one last night. Turned off the TV and just had some nice gentle relaxing time.
I know Henry is feeling a little stressed because he talked about getting two baby kittens this morning and is watching the tv show "Too Cute" on animal planet. Lol

Cam Newton is looking for a team... :)

Kristie | 19148 comments Jayme, I am definitely distracted and I'm sure that's a big part of too.

I have a puzzle that's about half done right now. I'm at a hard part so it's just sitting there. lol I think this afternoon I'll work on that with an audiobook. That sounds good to me right now.

I think there are going to be a few people that end up with new pets soon. I've seen a lot of posts about taking home dogs from the shelters and I'm sure that applies to kittens too. I love that he wants two. lol One is just not enough.

I saw that Cam is looking for a team! I wouldn't be shocked if we ended up with him. It will be strange, but I do like him.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments You know what's weird. I ordered stuff a while ago that I needed to take down to another barn to refit the stalls for calves. I would think if a place was shut down they'd email customers but maybe not. Either way I've got like 12 calves I have no space for. They just run loose. Then when the door is open they go run outside . Don't get me wrong they are like the happiest calves ever and they always return to the barn for feeding and at night but it's kind of a circus. Probably got to find a plan B at the other barn. Maybe make some pens out of wood or something

message 908: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments We're making a puzzle too. We have a neighbourhood app and I asked if people wanted to trade puzzles, so I have a couple of new ones waiting to be made.

I also hope to have some time for my diamond painting tomorrow. Or maybe take out my colouring books. It's like making a puzzle. Easy to do for a while, but still just demanding enough to distract you from other stuff.

message 909: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Actually I'm torn. At feeding time it is absolute chaos and stressful. The rest of the day it makes me so happy watching these calves run wild around the yard and stuff. Just out frollicking and having a blast

I love that idea about trading puzzles with the neighbors and the coloring books. My mom and brother trade puzzles back home and I was planning on just boxing them up and shipping them when I finished, but I might just check out the neighborhood. Thanks, Peggy!

I also have diamond painting to do. I made a list of all the projects that I have at home to do and I realized that I might be a bit of a hoarder. lol I have a tendency to buy things that look like they'd be fun to do, but I don't actually have the time to do them.

Maybe just work something out for feeding time?

message 913: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Love the idea that your calves are just free to. Roam all around Travis.

I found a nice slither of wood with a knot in eith lots of different colours whilst chopping wood earlier. I think if it's sanded down it could make a nice pendant. So I might make that my project. Also might get back into drawing again. I'm struggling to keep my mind focused on a book right now.

message 914: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments The last drawing you did that you posted on here was excellent, Sarah! Make sure you post them if you make more.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Talked to a guy he and his wife said when the kids moved out they'd out the house for sale. So the other day they put their house for sale. Well the next day or maybe 2 days later the feds cut interest rates and someone wanted to buy it. Closed it on Thurs. Entire thing from sign in yard to closing was like 10 days. Now he's like huh. Kind of made myself homeless. We weren't expecting anyone to just buy it amid this craziness we expected we had months to build a new house.

It is pretty crazy how fast that whole thing went through hope he finds a place to live now lol

message 917: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Kind of a feel good story. I want to say the spca couldn't get some veterinary supplies. A local tattoo parlor heard about it and boxed up their entire inventory of stuff that the spca could use and hung a sign out front saying closed until further notice.

Truth is they were gonna be closed anyway not sure it had been mandated but just the fact they donated all they had it's still a good story.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments If I'm not mistaken I believe I saw The Stand on audible best seller. I was like weirdos then after a while I was like. Dang. Now I kind of want to reread the stand myself. I haven't . Yet. People are weird. Including me.

My mind wanders at the best of times with audiobooks, I think it would be pointless for me right now.

I used to love jigsaws as a kid and teenagers. I was pretty good at them. I used to do the double sided ones and magic eye ones etc. Not done one in years though. I think my cat would be problematic too.

message 925: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I really want to read The Stand, but forr me, now's not the time. I'm so pleased 'pandemics' didn't win as the theme for next month's group reads.

Haha. Good for you. I find cooking soup and casserole quite therapeutic. Mine never turn out the same twice because I can't resist being creative.

message 928: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I find making soup relaxing too. I'm going to make a sweet potato soup tomorrow.

Also, a little neighbourhood library has been set up 2 minutes walking from my house! I'm going to bring some books and check it out tomorrow.

message 931: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Rob, myself, and a couple of friends have a whatsapp group. We have similar taste in music and each day we are doing a music mexican wave whereby we each post a music video. I have really enjoyed listening, watching and chatting about the tracks and bands. It has been really taking my mind off things this evening.

In January I chose Station Eleven for my face to face bookclub read in April. Luckily, it's been cancelled.

message 935: by Annerlee (new)

Annerlee | 2871 comments Jigsaws and audiobooks are the perfect combination for me (although I have to 'rewind' the book sometimes when I get too engrossed in finding pieces). Afterwards, each puzzle brings a different audiobook back to mind.

Kristie | 19148 comments Let us know if you find anything good in your new little library, Peggy.

I’ve been doing a lot of cooking. We decided to have leftovers tonight because we had so much food in the fridge. It always feels a bit weird when I don’t need to cook dinner.

message 937: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59896 comments I'm not in a reading slump, but I think I'm in a sewing slump. Maybe I'll go downstairs to my sewing room tomorrow. And then, maybe not. I could dig into that new quilt kit that I got. Harbor View Kit

It matches my colours in the living room/dining room and I plan on hanging it on my dining room wall.

message 938: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments That’s pretty, Janice.

I started my scarf tonight. I need to work on my technique a little, particularly on the edges where you turn around, but considering I’m new at this I’d say I’m doing well.

message 940: by uncomfytomato (new)

uncomfytomato | 265 comments I don't think the books I ordered from different UK sites will ship any time soon, It'll probably never ship (since our local mail closed down).

I have hope in my amazon order, its supposed to ship tomorrow, and , if it doesn't then I can't order anything >.<

I really like physical books, now that everything is closed down my only hope is amazon, please dont bring me down amazon!

I'm glad that I have 3 books I haven't read yet, thank god for audible too!

message 941: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Yes, people who ca read only paper books could get into trouble if this takes a long time..

Last night when I was in bed I suddenly felt like crocheting. I might pick up one of my abandoned projects today.

message 942: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments Janice wrote: "We need pictures, Kristie! Have you found a new passion?"

I don't know about a passion, but I enjoy it well enough. It's still new enough that I can't be too distracted by anything else. I need to pay attention to what I'm doing.

I just started it last night, so I don't have much done yet. I actually had to start it twice. The first time I was using dark yarn that a friend gave me and stitching too tight. It was really difficult to work with. This time it's going better because I'm trying to make it looser and I bought lighter yarn so it's easier to see. I'll take a picture when it's done.

This is actually the second crochet project I've done. I made a baby blanket of granny squares once 20-30 years ago. I started it when I was pregnant with my oldest, who is 30, and ended up giving it to a friend when I finally finished it 10 years or so later. lol I'm hoping this one goes much faster as it is planned as a Christmas gift.

On a different not I have friends in the military reserve. The husband was a combat medic the wife a doctor, They have both been called up. They are scrambling for someone to take their kids. I can not. Their parents are no where close, Its a scramble

According to the updates, so I should be getting it in a few days, I'm not sure when since there is a curfew

Annerlee | 2871 comments Trying out my new slow cooker for the first time. I threw in a jar of curry sauce and some tomatoes along with assorted veg and potatoes. It smells amazing, but the potatoes are still crunchy so there's a way to go yet. Not sure I can hold out for much longer.
