Amber (escapelifeinthepages) Hello! I just started this. Chapter 3, according to amazon, on page 25 (i'm reading the ebook on my library app so the pages are messed up) there is a huge black mark where a paragraph should be. It's confusing me to no end and now I'm super bothered! Does anyone else feel this way? I reread the paragraph like 6 times and i'm still confused. XD

I will check, but The Reader is one of those books that has a lot of formatting, so maybe they mixed up? Often there are letters on kind of a darker page, so maybe that's the reason?

It's supposed to be that way! There's some alternative formatting in the book (like, the physical book has blood stains on some pages and secret messages if you look closely) and the reason why will make sense later on!

laura (bbliophile) (bbliophile) | 9 comments I finally forced myself to sit down and read some more today and I reached the 8 chapter mark! (a little bit more than that but YAY.)
The Reader trilogy is my favorite series and I was so scared to reread it because what if I didn't like it anymore, but then I read the little introduction at the beginning, immediately got chills and I knew I didn't have anything to be worried about. And it's like I'm loving it even more the second time around? You just spot so many more tiny things and little foreshadowings and just... Traci Chee is a GENIUS.
I love how athmospheric her writing is, how intricate this world is, I love all of the characters and I'm so excited to get to know them again, just, AH. And the first time I read this I read it as an audiobook so I never really noticed how cool the formatting is but? The bloody fingerprints on the pages? The hidden messages? It's all so amazing.
I realize I'm just rambling but AH I'M SO IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK and I'm so excited for you all to read it too!! I really hope you will all like it.

Glad to know this! I am going to start today and I was worried it wouldn't live up to my extreme love lol

USOM (utopia-state-of-mind) | 32 comments I actually cannot take how much I love these books.

Fadwa (wordwoonders) | 9 comments I am late to the part but I finally, finally, FINALLY read the first 8 chapters today. I'm actually listening to the audiobook this time around and I'm really surprised at the fact that I'm loving the book SO MUCH MORE the second time around. I think it's because of how attached to the characters I've gotten over the years but when I first read The Reader it took me about a hundred pages to get into it but now? from page one! Coming back to this series feels so magical. I forgot so much about this book, but the most surprising thing to me is how "broken" Archer (the boy she discovered in the crate!!) starts off. I think in this second read I'm realizing that he has one of my favorite character arcs of all time!

Zoe | 6 comments I finally got the chance to sit down (last week was my first week back at school and it was very hectic) and read this weekend. I hardly ever reread but reading this for the second time is just as good as the first. There is so much foreshadowing that I didn't pick up on the first time reading it. I won't say anything for anyone who is reading it for the first time, but I understand so much better now how the stories in the Book tie in together. I also don't remember Sefia being as angry and bitter but I like that about her.

I had forgotten that about Archer as well, while reading the scene where he just stands there the morning after she rescues him from the crate, and doesn't even get any water or anything for himself made me so sad to read. The Impressors really broke him. I had mostly remembered his silence and forgot about the state that Sefia had found him in.

Talk about being late... I must be the last one to start reading this but January has been quite busy.

I've read a couple reviews, and some of you say it too, that it takes a bit to get into it but I thought the complete opposite, it started great and right into action!! I really like the setting and Sefia, for now. And that prologue was so cool!

I was also confused with the formatting and I was scared I was missing things but it's so cool what you all say about this! I'm sure I'm not gonna spot anything but could you all share whatever you discover? Maybe it's easier when rereading.

I'm curious how Sefia discovers Archers name, because I've just read 8 chapters and we still don't know his name so I wonder if she finds out or if she just starts calling him Archer. I'm really intrigued by him and I liked how he stucked by her.

Also I like that it took Sefia a long time to be able to read, since it's not something common, or easy to discover. I guess she got the first letters quite quickly because she had practised with her mother when she was little right?

Sorry for the long message.

USOM (utopia-state-of-mind) | 32 comments We love long messages!

I'm pretty sure she just calls him Archer. I call him Archer my precious soft boy. He's so vulnerable but also strong and AH I LOVE HIM.

Yeah! While re-reading you can see all these little touches that I missed the first time, but yeah the clues about her reading has always been there, like with the blocks!

Jenna (Falling Letters) (fallingletters) Hello I am so far behind but I am trekking along! I skimmed these comments as it seems like a lot of people are rereading. This is my first read, though, so I skimmed to try to avoid spoilers. I'm about 100 pages in and feeling that 'Hmm, it's taking a while to get going' so I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who feels/felt that way. Now I'm super curious about the Captain Reed stories, though, so back to reading. 👀 Edit: Oh, apparently I'm already 170 pages in...

Yeah it takes a bit for the relationships to form and the story action to get rolling
