If anything...it also got me to clean up my tbr pile. There were old books on there...so old...that when it came time to decide, I no longer was interested in reading them.
I'm like that too. I just finished doing my goodreads 2020 bookshelves and I moved some around. Hate to delete old ones. but this year I have 3 mason jar challenges which I put books off my shelves in. One big one has been going on for a few years books are from all over house. I haven't picked that many out of that jar but I want to this year. Also have two smaller pretty jars one has abs from my nightstand shelve and the other is off my big den bookcase and it's hardcovers and a few trade size added in. 2019 was not a good year for reading my own print books it probably was the worst year. 2020 I want to do better. I'll be doing less arcs from net galley because the one publisher switched from going that route and now goes though book funnel. I'll still be doing them but I'm not going to do as many out of net galley unless I really want to read the book. also I hope to always have a print owned book of mine own going besides the arc one. Kind of a new system.

Dawn, one of the things I really like about my Determination List is that it causes me to really look at my TBR and make some decisions about what I really want to read. You’re doing the same thing!
DJ: Your mason jar choices sound like they can be a treasure hunt after you select the next book. Funny, the book cover often sells me on a book, you are selecting sight unseen. Do you ever put a choice back when the size or cover doesn't match your mood? Donnajo wrote: "I'm like that too. I just finished doing my goodreads 2020 bookshelves and I moved some around. Well haven’t started the two smaller one oh the one with 14 books I got rid of one book. The big mason jar I want to say the rule of reading what you pick is the one went down the drain. I’m not sure how it will go this year. I think I’ll pick those knowing it won’t be mood. The Ellen Hopkins was from big mason jar look how long it took. I think Gayle foreman which is coming up might be from there if I’m not mistaken. I guess we shall see.
Updated. January is always one of most successful months. Waiting for some new books to be released, so being able to clear up some old ones helps with my Determination List.
Good start Dawn. I'm going to need all the help I can get with my list this year. My book that will be a different genre is going to probably be my first determination list book. (Aliens) lol

I’m not Dawn, but I strongly recommend Redemption Point. But you should read the first book in the series, Crimson Lake first to get all the background on the two main characters.
The third in the series is being US released in March and will be one of our group reads. You could join us!

Thanks for the info, I'm downloading the audiobook version of Crimson Lake right now. So, I guess once I've read/listened to it I can count that as #17: a book that was recommended to you. Very helpful, thanks.

That the way you have to do it. I started Julia spencer fleming's arc so that will probably be one of my series ones when I finish it. the other might be library book I have Mind scrambler by Graberstein. I could have used a romance I read yesterday but I rather use mysteries to try and motivate myself on series books. the recommend one I was thinking of asking someone from library once I'm caught up. I think the assistant head librarian he would give something different.
OMalleycat wrote: "You’re doing well, Dawn! How’d you like Redemption Point?"I did! It had a lot going on! But now I'm ready for our March group read, Gone by Midnight.
Brad wrote: "Redemption Point looks good Dawn. Would you recommend it?"As Jan recommended, yes definitely worth a read, but start with Crimson Lake. You definitely need the back story!
Thank you! I have so many current books coming in from the library...having trouble getting to some of my older ones
Dawn wrote: "Thank you! I have so many current books coming in from the library...having trouble getting to some of my older ones"Yep. Those new books are so pushy!
I took back my unread book which I requested to library earlier figured I rather push to get the arcs read and rad my owned print books. I even returned the audio that was requested showed up this week I think with a thriller book like that I rather read print copy. But I do have a book to add to my list can’t do it from iPad and keep forgetting when I’m on laptop.
Quarantine day 64....one positive is with the library still closed I'm working my way through the older books on my list.
At least you are catching up. I up to 60 percent on my one arc and just have other one then finally I can start reading my own print books which are so many unread I'll never be able to catch up on. I've been doing the try two or three chapters of around 10 that I pulled off my big bookcase to see if they grab me. so far two 2 did, and 1 is two full size books in one book one story not crazy about other I like so might only read one of them. other one is so so. so have one more to read in bottom section then I'll start doing the top section. I was going to start with one from bottom and one from two. but I see what I end up with. It's a good way o decide on what to read.
Lol... I request new releases from the library, and I usually have about 8 on the list at any given time, so as their due dates dictate what I read next. It’s hard to have to pick the next reads for myself!
Especially I find when yo finish a top rated one. I’m always saying I love reading but hate starting a new book until you get into it and it hopefully grabs you.
Dawn and DonnaJo: I tend towards due dates for deciding my next books, and I struggle with picking one on my own shelves. (Which is why my determination lists are always a struggle) Donnajo wrote: "Especially I find when yo finish a top rated one. Do the mason jar or use small box or anything to put some of the to read books on pieces of paper (each paper different book) shake them up then pick one. What you pick you read. Or bull 5 books off shelve try a try or more not many of each and then whichever grab you. That one you read that is what I’m doing for my print. But I also have 3 mason jars with books I can pick from. With the hundreds probably thousands of unread I have it’s very hard deciding.
Dawn I’m in north jersey but was down shore over weekend again the shore is a different world than in the northern part of state. Memorial Day weekend I felt like a alien almost the only one with mask. When I go for walks or outside I have the mask I can pull up. Or I move out to the street auto walk pass people. Was on beach two days most people sitting distance but one group of kids weren’t but everyone complains about them. Were there last year too. I finally finished one of my print books too. Still need to pick up speed.
Dawn: I've started three or four for number 19... I think this last one will stick... and I got the idea for the author from Barbara's Determination list: Dorothy B. Hughes - different book. Good luck! Dawn wrote: "WooHoo! Only two more to go...#19 and #20. Will be browsing other determination lists for ideas!"
