I live in Kansas but originally from Cali!
I have 5 kids and currently stay home with a 2.5 year old and a 2 month old.
Reading is my passion. It’s about the only hobby I have besides changing diapers and laundry and dishes and cooking. 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

Amanda | 7 comments Hi, I'm Amanda and I'm from Sydney, Australia. I tend to read mystery, thriller, general fiction, historical fiction, actually a bit of everything really. I'm brand new to goodreads so please bare with me. I've set myself a goal of 20 books this year - working full time and having 3 kids I'm trying to be realistic to start with :)

message 354: by Turner (new)

Turner Publishing (turnerpub) | 2 comments Hello!
We are Turner Publishing and we are based in Nashville, Tennessee.
We're staffed with avid readers who love all sorts of genres, but mainly YA, literary fiction, nonfiction, and thrillers.
We found this group just by scrolling through our goodreads and we thought it would be fun to join!
Our reading goal is 10 books by the end of 2020, which seems small but with all the chaos of life, it will feel like a miracle.
We are so excited to be here!

message 355: by Hari (new)

Hari Narayanan | 1 comments Hi Everyone,

I am Hari Narayanan. I am from India. I have lost my touch with reading for last 3 years. I am trying to build it back up and I have a target to read 24 books a year. I have already read two. I am aiming for more. I love to read a good literature with quality writing mostly fiction and sometimes self help just for motivation. Currently reading Sapiens.

Thanks
Hari

Beth Livingston (reader_girl19) | 1 comments Hello my name is Beth. I am a children's librarian in North Carolina. I love to read pretty much anything except horror. My goal is to read 100 books this year. I've already read 5 so far. I'm open to any recommendations as to what to read.

message 357: by [deleted user] (last edited Jan 27, 2020 04:26PM) (new)

Hello, my name is Kristina and I'm from Western Canada. I recently realized that it's more than okay to read what I actually LIKE rather than what everyone else is reading. I'm having a lot of fun with that right now and am finding that I really enjoy YA, NA, Contemporary, Romcoms, Mysteries, and Thrillers. My goal for 2020 is to read 50 books. I believe I have read 7 so far this year soooo maybe I'll surpass this goal even! Hope to make some new friends and have fun book conversations. :)

message 358: by Katryna (new)

Katryna (kbraim) Hello hello!
I’m Katryna, I live in Kansas. I’m the mother of 5 wonderful little children. I stay home with my youngest two, ages 2.5 and 2.5 months. Their a handful but love the opportunity to stay home.
Reading is about my only hobby. I love reading classic lovey novels, crime mystery and suspense. I love a good adventure book too by Clive Cussler.
I’ve never really read a fantasy book, I’d like to but I just haven’t found one that catches me. I’m probably the only person in the world who wasn’t a huge fan of The Hobbit. My goal for the year is to read 100 books! I’m super laid back and open to hear any and all reviews and opinions of books! So feel free to add me!

Happy Reading!

message 359: by Zvon (new)

Zvon | 3 comments Hi everyone,

I'm Tom, I'm from Czech Republic, I like reading Fantasy/Fiction/Crime Thrillers and more, but these are my main favorite genres. I discovered this group while searching through goodreads groups. My goal is to read more (because I haven't been doing much reading lately), so I'm starting with an achievable goal of at least 10 books this year. I don't have any plan/deadlines for reading (with the obvious exception of the end of the year :D), I'm just gonna read when I can, so I might end up reading more than I set out to, who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I am originally from Michigan, am a business owner, an AF Vet, a wife of almost 17 years and a Mom to an 11 yo boy! I have been a member of Goodreads for years but did not know they had groups! Found that option today, typed a word in the search field and here I am! 😃 My goal this year is to read 30 (I think) books. Can’t wait to read February’s book with y’all...I’ve never read that one.

message 363: by Amy (new)

Amy Kranda (amy4books) Good morning
My name is Amy. I am from Arkansas in the United States. I pretty much love to read anything. But I do shy way from romance, only because I feel like I’m slightly jaded. Ha ha. I do have social phobias, so I’m using this platform to dip my toe into a way of becoming more connected. So here’s to starting the new year with making more friends.

Have a blessed day!
And happy readings😊

message 366: by Mazaya (new)

Mazaya (majaay) | 4 comments Hi! My name is Mazaya, I'm from Indonesia. I set my goal to 24 this year in the hopes that I can read at least 2 per month. So far I'm doing pretty well since classes has not started yet, but I hope even with school I can still spare the time to read as much as possible.

Currently I enjoy reading fiction, self-help and romance. I'm trying to get into YA and fantasy more because I'm also in the process of writing right now. Mostly to sharpen my english but we shall see where it leads ^^

Nice to meet you all!

message 367: by Kate (new)

Kate | 1 comments Hi all. I'm Kate from Virginia. I love to read all types of books and have a long commute to work and home, so also enjoy audiobooks. I have two teenage boys, a husband, a dog and a cat. My goal is to read 100 books for fun or based on my interests this year after finally finishing a leadership program at work that required professional reading last year. I'm looking forward to the group and the reading.

message 368: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1 comments Hello everyone!
I'm Sarah and I am from West Virginia. Currently, I'm really into romance books and some historical-fiction. My reading goal this year is 20 books but I also have a secret challenge of 1 book per week. So far, I'm a bit ahead! I found this group through the group section!

message 369: by Ana (new)

Ana Rocha Hi, I'm Ana, I'm from Brazil. I have a lot of different genres that I love but the one I think I'm most drawn to is fantasy and this year I really want to read a lot of that. My Goodreads challenge is set to 36 books, but I hope I get to read a lot more. My overall goal is to read at least 3 books a month, since last year I was able to read a lot in the beginning and the end of the year, but pretty much got stuck in a reading slump during several months in the middle. Love the idea of the group and hope we can all reach our goals and read really good books in 2020!

message 370: by Amy (new)

Amy (s2078994) Hi! I'm Amy. I'm studying to be a teacher in Texas. I've got really caught up in all of my readings for class, so I haven't been doing a lot of reading for pleasure lately. I'm overcoming some trauma, and returning to reading has been incredibly beneficial. I've been on Goodreads a long time, but I semi-recently made a new account so I would stop getting recommendations fit for a ten-year-old. My goal for this year is 27 books, but I hope to surpass this!
Other than reading, I also like watching the Great British Bake Off and writing poetry.

message 371: by Mary Carolyn (last edited Jan 30, 2020 04:08PM) (new)

Mary Carolyn (ivorybow) | 9 comments Hi from Carolyn in Colorado. I fairly recently became active on Goodreads and last year I took my first Reading Challenge and I read 185 books. I am a speed reader, but the main factor contributing to that volume is my retirement! I now have the time to read until dawn. Being retired, I like to save money so I discovered how to find great books for free on Kindle, and I also have Kindle Unlimited. I started out with comics before I could read, then immediately latched on to scifi. I lived through the Golden Age of Scifi and I read practically every book and author from that time. Recently I discovered paranormal romance. My favorite genres are scifi, paranormal romance, certain types of fantasy, vampires, ghosts, westerns, early Church fathers, some classics. I will not read anything involving serial killers, hurt children or dogs (which eliminates Stephen King). I don't enjoy anything about lawyers, government, spies, sports, politics, self-improvement, and rarely read non-fiction. except for biographies and journals. Since I acquired 2 degrees, I have read reams of non fiction and feel satisfied with that. Even tho I do read so much, I have many other interests: my grandkids, B movies, writing, sewing and all forms of handwork, cooking, baking, study of new subjects, keeping up with my field of Anthropology, and studying different languages. I am very active in my Church. Friend me!

message 372: by Hayley (new)

Hayley Wood (bibliosass) | 1 comments Hi All! I am Hayley! I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma. My love for reading started with reading little woman when I was in 5th grade.

message 373: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Dayan | 1 comments Hi all! My name is Sarah, I'm a displaced Brooklyn, NY native currently living outside of DC (thanks to my husband's career in the military). I love reading contemporary fiction, women's fiction, and I've recently got into self improvement books. After becoming a mom for the first time one year ago, I've also been into writing (and reading to him) children's lullabies. My goal for this year is 25 books. Happy reading everyone!

Blagica | 12941 comments Hi Everyone Welcome! I hope you all are getting comfortable in your reading goals. We are 20,000 plus members and growing and I love all the different genres we love.. I hope you will all join challenges and have some fun with us!

message 375: by Cari (new)

Cari Cook Hi everyone, I am Cari from Texas, US. I have always loved to read but have not done it as much the past few years. I enjoy mysteries, contemporary romance, historical fiction and non-fiction, and biographies.

A friend of mine mentioned that she was in a reading challenge, and I had joined Goodreads a few years ago. So I did a search on Goodreads reading challenge and one of the results led me here.

I have set a goal of 24 books for the year, but I have hopes of reading more. I am retired so have llenty of time to entertain myself. I also enjoy cross stitch, travel, and will be reviving my genealogy research this yesr.

message 376: by Onyx (new)

Onyx (onyxsin) | 6 comments Hello; I am Allie! I am a Las Vegas mom and wife. Trying to find time to read between all of my duties as a mom, wife, artist and business owner. I really love thrillers and dystopians, however, I am trying to venture out into new genres. I found this group through a link on youtube BookTube channel. For 2020 my goal is a small one of only 24 books as I am trying to get back into my passion of reading and writing.

message 377: by Bethany (new)

Bethany (bmkwood) | 1 comments I'm Bethany and I'm from Nashville, TN but live in NC now. I'm an 8th grade English teacher, and I love reading really character-driven books with female leads. I don't read action, mystery, sci-fi, fantasy--so I guess I do read memoirs, creative nonfiction, historical fiction, realistic fiction? I'm excited to be with y'all! I hope to read 75 books this year.

message 378: by Christina (new)

Christina (maybaby88) | 129 comments Welcome everyone good luck with your goals and happy reading to all

message 379: by Ozzie (new)

Ozzie Silvers | 4 comments I started the year with the goal of 52 books or basically a book a week. That was before I decided to get serious about really reading and writing. I committed my self this month and finished the month with 19 books (5845 pages) read. I have also committed myself to reviewing everything I read, which is something I'm not typically committed to. But I now understand the importance of reviews. I am going to go on record here as upping my goal from 52 to 156 books this year.
What I have read to date in 2020:
Blackout by Alexandria Clarke
Midnight by Dean Koontz
Shadowfires by Dean Koontz
11/22/63 by Stephen King
Needful Things by Stephen King
Cold Fire By Dean Koontz
Going Deep by Kylie Parker
Red Rain by Dean Koontz
Servants of Twilight by Dean Koontz
Junkyard Cats by Faith Hunter
Missing Person by James Hunt
Photographing the dead by Dean Koontz
Hideaway by Dean Koontz
Salsa by Melanie Munton
Overture by skye Warren
Ruthless Protector by Sherilee Grey
Praying Mantis Bride by Dean Koontz
Dragon Tears by Dean Koontz
Temptations by Scott Wylder

If your interested in the reviews of these novels please be sure to check out their individual pages and select like so I will know you stopped by.
We have two less days in Feb. but still going to shoot to beat Jan.
I would love to hear what you read this month.

Happy reading!

Ugur Salin (iwy7) Hello. I'm Ugur from Izmir, Turkey.

I haven't used Goodreads actively until this year. My yearly goal for 2020 is about 50 or a book a week. But I think I will under do/overdo it.

I pretty much read anything I can get my hands on - from science to tech to economics to well .. anything.

message 382: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello, Everyone. I'm leul from Ethiopia but, currently traveling around Africa and Asia. Excuse my grammar, English isn't my native language.
I have always loved reading though my interests have shifted through out the years. For now I am into Asian Novels, Asian Comics, Self-improvement books and Business books.
My goal for 2020 is to read 200 books.. haha. I know that sounds like a lot.. but for me it isn't plus 50% of them I am only re-reading.

message 383: by Lillian (new)

Lillian Morin | 1 comments HI Everyone! My name is Lillian and I am from upstate NY. I have been with Goodreads for a while but never branched out & the first group I found was this one.
I love historical fiction, historical, murder/mystery/suspense, true crime. My daughter is pushing me to read a lot of books. I do love them so much - LOL only people here would understand that. Thanks for having me!

message 384: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa Skaggs (alyssalovesbooks06) Hello thank you for letting me join my name is Alyssa and I’ve loved reading since I was 5 I am currently 32!! I have been married for going on 12 years in July to my high school sweetheart and we have 2 boys. I love all genres but my favorites are romance and thrillers.

message 385: by Etain (new)

Etain | 1 comments Hi, I'm Étáin, yes it sounds French but it isn't, Irish, I don't adhere to pc language.

Here because I love reading and get some time to contribute at weekends and during a busy day.

I don't always get to read what I start, it depends on the book, how long, and if the content is engaging enough. I really enjoy crime, forensics and occasionally the odd termed slushy type book, you know the type nearly everyone says they never read but secretly do, but it has to be well written for me to enjoy. Occasionally I read prose and poetry and indulge in a spot of creative writing.

message 386: by Mary Carolyn (new)

Mary Carolyn (ivorybow) | 9 comments Ozzie, thank you! Retirement is wonderful. I very occasionally let myself lie down for a bit in the afternoons with a book. I justify it, by thinking back to those years I worked up to 11 hours per day, and how daily, after 4 pm, thinking I was going to fall from my desk chair to the floor if I couldn't rest a little. These naps with my Kindle are those that I wanted 25 years ago, and were impossible to have.

message 387: by Scarlet (new)

Scarlet Shaw | 2 comments My name is Scarlet and I’m in Vancouver, BC, Canada. I have a penpal in UK who’s active in this group and introduced me to the 2020 reading challenge. I’m challenging myself to read 20 books this year.

I enjoy the Harry Potter series tremendously. I love James Patterson, Dean Koontz and Sophie Kinsella. I like a good mystery, fantasy, sci-fi, detective story and also romance and comedy too. I’m open to any genre and suggestions and please feel free to message me or add me as friend if you’re also interested in the genres I’ve listed above. Thank you.

message 388: by Mo (last edited Feb 03, 2020 02:44AM) (new)

Mo Hello everyone, I am Mo! I am from Canada and love hiking, knitting and reading. Mysteries are one of my favourite reads but i do read many other genres as well. My goal is to read 25 books this year. I always think 2 a month is doable for me. Last year i read more so that was a bonus!

message 389: by Alex (new)

Alex Hello,

I am Alex, a Spanish reader that has stopped reading due to lack of time since I had my first kid 4 years ago. I retook it last year and managed to read 10 books. This year I want to read 12, one per month.
I read mainly sci-fi, fantasy, some divulgation books (more towars the scientific side), some light philosophy, history, thriller and the occasional YA, but I'm not closed to anything else.
I joined this group to have some support to achieve my target, get some ideas on what to read and who knows? go back to when I read 52 per year...

Marjolein (UrlPhantomhive) (urlphantomhive) | 4 comments Hi there,

I'm Marjolein, originally from the Netherlands, now living in Belgium. I like to read a lot, around 200 books a year for the last couple of years and I also like to talk about books a lot, which is why I joined the group.

Always looking to learn new genres, but I mainly read science fiction and fantasy.

message 391: by Bryan (new)

Bryan A Hello my name is Bryan I’m from California I barley started getting into reading about 2 years ago but haven’t read much and would only read non fiction. Reading use to be a secondhand hobby so I would only read if I had time but towards the end of last year I really got into reading after reading the short book Animal Farm by George Orwell and decided to move reading to the top of my hobby list. I now make time to read durning my days. Animal farm was the first non fiction book I read in a very long time and very excited to get into the non fiction section of books so if you have any recommendations let me know.

My goal for this year is 20 books because the previous year I didn’t read much because like I said I didn’t make time for reading so this year will be my first year where reading is #1 so I’m barley starting to see what my book reading capability is. I believe I could read more than 20 but we will see. Like I said I’m new to the fiction side of books so if you have any recommendations let me know.

Thank you

Robyn Pierce (robynvpierce) | 3 comments Hello :) my name is moby. Im from New York, US. I used to love reading as a child and im currently in college. Ive picked up reading again and enjoying it very much. My favorites since i can remember have been mysteries but now i love psych and nonfiction as well. With college assignments it might be a challenge for me to read many books but im still set on reading as much as i can. Although my goal of 30 this year seems a bit unrealistic since im currently reading book that is more than 1000 pages and 500,000 words.. also plan on reading The Count of Monte Cristo next. All i can say is wish me luck!

message 399: by Amy (new)

Amy | 1 comments Hi, fellow readers! I'm Amy, currently living in the United States in Arizona (but who knows what the future holds?), goal for this year is 40 books (on track so far) and I read mostly... a lot of things.

I could list genres, but that isn't very informative, so let me instead steal from a favorite podcast (Reading Glasses) and tell you about my Reading Wheelhouses (the stories/topics that will make me pick up a book EVERY TIME):
-Learning and behavior for animals and humans
-Ways the human mind tricks us/is so much dumber than we think
-Animals are smarter/more emotional/cooler than we thought!
-Cool tricks to train your dog
-Spy/assassin school
-Magic school
-Dragons as friends/allies
-Awesome, smart, independent chick kicks butt and is her own hero
-Memoirs of/with pets
-How nature is cooler than we thought
-How nature is actually really important for human well-being
-Post-apocalypse and people are trying to rebuild the world from scratch
-Snarky satire
-Well-known fairy-tale/myth retellings
-Playing with common tropes from the genre/classic literature and turning them on their heads
-Myths/legends from non-Western cultures (I'm woefully unfamiliar with anything else)
-Diverse perspectives (let me see what x experience might look like from a character who is non-white, non-hetero...)
-Creative, awesome, unique, in-depth worldbuilding
-Future wherein technology/addiction to technology is the downfall of the world/culture
-Animals that can talk/character who can talk to animals
-Snarky, reluctant hero/heroine
-Sympathetic, well-developed villain

...And Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings fan for LIFE! Looking for more diversity in the books I'm reading--more authors who have different perspectives than myself (middle-class white hetero female) or most of the authors I read (white men). It's been amazing so far--finding new authors, new book series, new reading interests.... :D

There's probably more. Writing that list makes me want to go read everything immediately haha.
