Jean | 37 comments Hi! I am Jean from Georgia and am excited to join another group of book lovers. I belong to a neighborhood book club that I love and that has instilled in me a passion for reading that I haven’t had for a long time. My favorites are bestsellers, Pulitzer winners, fiction and memoirs. I hope to enjoy 150 books this year. I look forward to some interesting discussions.

message 302: by Anne (new)

Anne Hello, and Happy New Year! I'm Anne, and I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I love the theme for 2020; it is sure to help me try books outside of my comfort zone (historical fiction, detective novels, and art history).

message 303: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 1 comments Hello! I'm from the USA and just joined Goodreads so that I can start tracking all the books I've read and the books I want to read! I read mainly fiction, fantasy, science fiction, and children's books. I used to read quite a lot and would love to get back to it again! My goal for 2020 is 50 books. I joined this group because I feel it'll be great to have a community to share my reading progress! I would love to have more friends on this!

Jackie (jackielonglegs) | 3 comments Hi everyone, my name is Jackie and I’m currently living in Michigan. My goal is to read 20 books for 2020, but I’m hoping that it will end up being more than that. I like reading a wide variety of books, but as of late I’ve been reading more historical fiction and fantasy. I found this group when I was looking for groups to join to maybe find some discussions or reading groups and make some friends on here. I hope everyone has a fun year trying to complete whatever challenge they have set for themselves!

message 306: by SarahG (new)

SarahG (sarahg626) | 143 comments Hi everyone. I have been a member of this group since partway through 2019. I really enjoyed keeping track of my reading in "Let's Turn Pages".

I am from Central Ohio (USA) and 42 years old. I fell in love with reading a few years ago and really do enjoy mysteries. I started with some cozy mystery series that my mother had previously liked and then ventured out on my own with some "heavier" mysteries (some series, some stand-alone novels).

I also enjoy listening to biographies and memoirs, especially when read by people who I like watching on the big screen. (Billy Crystal, Dick Van Dyke, Martin Short, etc)

Happy Reading EVERYONE!

message 307: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Moore | 3 comments Hello, I’m Hannah Moore. I’m an 7th and 8th grade English Language Arts teacher. My goal for the 2020 year is to read 50 books. Last year I only got to 13 but it was a chaotic and stressful year. So, I’m hoping to dive more into the pages this year.

I love to read just about anything, but have an affinity for the classics, young adult fiction, thrillers, memoirs, and graphic novels. The one genre I truly stay away from is chick lit and romance novels.

My favorite novels I’ve read in this life so far are:

Catcher in the Rye
The Alchemist
Of Mice and Men
Something Wicked this Way Comes
Flowers for Algernon
Educated
...
Just to name a few, but there are many, many more!

message 308: by Tej (new)

Tej Patel (heckillreadit) | 8 comments Hi, I am Tej Patel. I am from Illinois (USA) and go to university there as a biochemistry major.

I (so far) read have read a few nonfiction books (historical and self-help) but I am way more interested in high/epic fantasy, and 1 science fiction book too date. I want to branch out more and to actively start reading.

I currently have a 24 book challenge for the year and have found this group by accident.

message 310: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (kristinafaith) Hi all! I’m Kristina from Ontario Canada. It’s so great to see people from all over the world bonding and inspiring each other over a love of reading! I have a fun question for you: e-reader or physical books? What is your preference? I’m here for inspiration to keep pushing toward my goal of 50 books read in 2020!! I’ve set my bar at 30, but low key want to read 50, if I can. What are your reading goals for 2020? I tend to stick to thriller, horror, mystery, gothic horror, dystopian, and psych books. I’m open to other genres, but not romance - that’s not my thing.

message 313: by Ijeoma (new)

Ijeoma (ijeomac) I'm Favour from Nigeria. I have always been a lazy reader so this year I decided to change that aspect of me. I read any genre but I mostly enjoy mystery/thriller books, young adult/Fiction and a little bit of romance. My goal for this year is to read at least 25 books, be a book reviewer and complete my book. I also have wanted to join a book club and I'm glad I've ticked that off my list. I'm open to friend requests, it will be nice to have reading buddies.

Jules Hi everyone!
I'm Juliette from the Netherlands. I've liked reading since I learned to read. Now I also read in English and German. Since this is my first year on Goodreads I deciced to set my goal on 25.

message 316: by Ruth (new)

Ruth | 6 comments Hello group :)

My name is Ruth and I'm from Denmark. Midt last year I decided to take up reading again after not having read books for too many years. I pulled through and ended with 34 read books - which I think is a good amount (can always read more, right). This year I am taking a step further. First, I want to read even more books(42, hhgttg? :p) and second, I want to review/discuss them. I find that I will think about the content of the book in greater details if I know I will have to express my thoughts and opinions afterwards. I don't want to read for the sake of reading, I want it to be a hobby of sorts. (We will see what happens..)

Anyways. Favorite genre? No idea. Truly. Maybe Sci-Fi. It does fascinate me the most.

I think that was it for know. :)

Read on!

I feel like we are book twins. I am a mom too, but to two littles. Same to all but the Nicholas Sparks. I haven't read any yet. Have you read the Selection Series? It is YA and it The Hunger Games meets the Bachelor. I could see you liking it. And nothing racy. I also loved the tourist trap mysteries and embroidery mysteries. They are like chic lit mysteries.

message 318: by Christine (new)

Christine (cmtulledge) | 2 comments Hi Everyone! I live in Wisconsin. I am a stay at home mommy of two littles and former public school teacher of 10 years. I love learning about how people came to be who they are so I enjoy biographies. I also enjoy murder mystery chic lit. I teach a Bible Study to developmentally disabled adults, sew, craft, scrapbook, make playdoh kits for my kids, and write book reviews for fun. I have set a goal of 25 books.

message 320: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 4 comments Hello,

My name is Jamie and I'm from the United States. I love reading any type of book but prefer sci-fi, horror, or thrillers with some fantasy sprinkled in. I want to try to expand my reading into more non-fiction books and some more "classic" books that I once read in high school but can no longer remember.

I'm newish to Goodreads so would love to make some friends to read with!

message 321: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Hi - my name is Nancy. While I’m new to this group I have been a member of Goodread groups, Yahoo groups and led an AOL group for many years. I am an avid reader who loves historical fiction and some contemporary fiction. I also enjoy some mysteries from authors like Harlsn Coben, Jacqueline Winespear and Andrew Gross. I am hoping to read 50 books this year and enjoy meeting all of you.

I Live in New Jersey with my husband of almost 50 years. Our daughter, her husband and twin grandchildren live nearby. I am a retired high school teacher of business subjects. I read lots, travel all over - we’ve been to 6 continents, knit and also love the theater. Now, let’s discuss books.

message 322: by Stela (new)

Stela Kohlhauser | 3 comments Hey readers :)

My name is Stela, and I am from Slovakia currently living in Switzerland. I recently joined Goodreads intending to track my New Year 2020 goals - to read more.

I like history, classics, politics, and my goal is 50 books. I am looking forward to some motivation to keep the goal alive and juicy discussion with well-read people.

message 323: by Hadi (new)

Hadi (queenhadija) Hey.
I'm Hadi and I live in Norway :)
I like to read a wide variety of books, mostly general fiction and a good deal of fantasy.
My reading goal for 2020 is 100 (!) books. I don't think I've ever actually read that many in a year, but I'm feeling positive because I've been devouring books pretty quickly since breaking out of a really long reading slump last April.

message 324: by James (new)

James Hey, I'm James from Belgium. I am a law student. I've only started reading in my free time last year and I just began using goodreads to track what I've read and find new books. I like reading fantasy, horror, and science-fiction. My goal this year is to read 20 books. I'd love to meet new people to read with.

message 325: by Mana (new)

Mana Hi all,

My name is Mana, I'm from Iran but currently living in Italy, doing a master's degree on Computer Science.

I don't have as much time to read as I'd like (because of university) but I'm going to do as best I can anyway because I love reading. I set my personal challenge for 2020 to 35 books, but that is only because I have found some comics that I know I want to read; otherwise, I don't think I could actually read 35 books with 300-400 pages (or more) each, haha!

Anyway, I'm participating in a couple challenges in different groups this year and I hope I can finish them.

I like to read fantasy, young adult, crime, thriller, and probably more genres that I can't call to mind right now. But I have decided to push past what I usually read and broaden my range of genres! So I'm going to delve into more nonfiction this year.

Nice to meet you all, and cheers!

Hi,

My name is Karen and I'm a lifelong Minnesotan (USA). I'm an avid reader, my favorite genre is Historical Fiction and I also like to read many other genres.

I've been on Goodreads.com for 5 years and love to use it to search and sift for books, but also as a place to keep track of what I want to read and what I have read. I found this group while looking for groups that have a book club atmosphere.

For 2020, my reading goal is 200 books, half will be ARC's from Netgalley.com.

message 328: by Dusty (new)

Dusty Marie (dustymarie) Hello, fellow book lovers!

My name is Dusty, and I am from North Carolina, USA. I'm open to reading just about anything and everything, but my favorites are History, Classics, and Mystery.

I came upon this group simply by searching for the ones that seemed to interest me. I decided to join in an effort to keep myself on track with my reading this year. I set an ambitious goal for myself in 2019 and ended up reading a grand total of four books. I'm not letting that happen again.

This year, I have a somewhat more reasonable goal of 50 books. If I exceed this number, that would be awesome, but I'm trying to motivate myself with achievable aims.

Happy reading!

message 329: by Blagica , Challenges (new)

message 332: by Kris (new)

Kris | 2 comments Hello! I’m Krissy, recent college graduate and New England dweller. I’m 21 and as such am addicted to my screens, which I’m hoping to remedy by reading more in 2020 than I did in the entirety of my four years as an English major.
- I like running, NPR, the band Rush, and telling people about my dreams even though I know they don’t want me to.
- According to the receipt from my local library, I’ve saved $60 on books this year already.
- I’m trying to read “classic” novels but keep cheating.
- I like to fold down the corners of pages, intentionally crack spines, and use pen to annotate. Books should know I’ve read them.

message 333: by Bridget (new)

Bridget | 3 comments Hi! My name is Bridget and I'm a middle school librarian living in Sandy, Utah. I would like to read 50 books this year. For my job, of course, I read a lot of middle grade and YA books, but I love grown up books too of all genera. My favorite is probably narrative non-fiction.

message 334: by Billy (new)

Billy Curry | 1 comments Hello there,
My name is Billy Curry. I joined GR last year. I love the app. My reading goal for this year is to read 12 books. I like contemporary fiction - Jonathan Tropper, some older Dan Brown, anything with a good story. I'm from Australia, and I write books. Thanks!

message 335: by Hannah (new)

I also love mystery/thriller and pretty girls by karin slaughter is one of my favourites!

One of the things I really wanted to do this year (as I am still taking time off work) is create an instagram book club - I would love if you could check it out at theilovebooksclub

I aim to read a minimum of 20 books this year so lets get reading!

message 336: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Johnson | 11 comments Hello everyone! I'm super excited to find this new to me feature on Goodreads (groups)! I'm from Florida! I have always been an avid reader, and I read several genres. I think my favorite genre is currently historical fiction. And mystery. And... Fantasy. Ahhh there's so many! I'm currently in a live book club, just finished The Lake House by Kate Morton, and just started the 5th book in the Miss Peregrine's series (super stoked about this)! My goal is to read 24 books this year. I believe I read 20 in 2019. I look forward to discussing with y'all!

message 337: by Jodi (new)

Jodi Gilroy (jodigilroy) | 3 comments Hello everyone! My name is Jodi and I am an avid reader and writer from Michigan. I love historical fiction, self-help, and memoirs. My passion is children’s literature. Teaching a child through literacy is like lighting a fire!
I am excited to be back on Goodreads and taking part in the 2020 Reading Challenge!! Due to some personal circumstances I took a step back from Goodreads challenges, and continued reading, but not with the passion and drive I once had. I am stepping back into my own and have dedicated this year to myself, accomplishing my reading and writing goals.
My goal is to read at least 20 books this year. I look forward to partnering with many of you for deep and meaningful conversations!

message 338: by Alex (new)

Alex | 59 comments My name is Alex Galloway. I am a librarian from North Carolina. I love all kinds of books. My favorite book of all time would have to be the Harry Potter series. I can talk all day about Harry Potter. Working in the library has taught me about broadening my reading materials a lot. I like books by Jodi Picoult, mystery/thrillers, YA, and I have recently started reading more books about LGBT characters and books by minority authors. My goal is to read 40 books this year (hopefully I can read more) since I am also going back to school. I hope to make some new friends in this group and drop me any recommendations of books you have.

message 339: by deific (new)

deific (chinatra) | 5 comments Hi I'm Chintara and I'm from Indonesia. I like to read historical fiction, young adult and I used to be really crazed over fantasy but lately I've lost that spark :/ My reading goal this year is 75 books as I just got out of a really long book slump last year. And I would like to make new friends on here!

message 340: by Gary (new)

Gary (gary1123) | 14 comments Hi everyone
I am Gary and I am an English teacher in Minnesota. We are currently in the middle of a typical January winter and I have been reading like crazy! I am glad to be a part of this group, and am looking forward to reading and interacting with you.

message 341: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (kelly_s) My name is Kelly and I'm from Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. I've been a Goodreads member since 2010 and have used the site to track my books, my reading progress and to get book recommendations from fellow readers.

I haven't been an active participant in Groups however until this year. Why you ask? Largely because my job has been pretty demanding over the last decade. I travel a lot for business and actually just returned to Canada after a 13 month assignment in Portland, Oregon (shout out to Stumptown - such an amazing city!).

After a pretty great career, I'm finally starting to get a bit more work/life balance and one of my goals this year is to participate more in the reading communities that I enjoy so much. So, here I am!

message 342: by Debby (new)
