Introduce Yourself to the Group - 2020

Dave from the US (CT), I like most genres but Mythology, sci-fi and Medieval are my favorite. My goal is to read about 2 books a week and started using the site for book suggestions.

I’m Melissa and I currently live in Pittsburgh, PA!!
I recently got back into reading regularly, and I love it!
I read mostly fiction and am open to try any genre!
I found the group through a friend who ultimately got me back into reading by telling me about the books he has read!
My goal for this year is 25 books, so fingers crossed ◡̈

Hi David,
Well if Mythology is a favorite, you definitely joined us at the right time :) Our theme this year is Myths, Legends & Fairytales and there is a variety of challenges to go along with that.
I'd recommend checking out the A-Z Challenge aswell as the quarterly that takes place from January through March: Myths From Around the World
And ofcourse there are a bunch others well worthwhile looking into if you enjoy challenges and discussing books with other readers :)
Have fun!

Happy new year to everyone!

Happy new year to everyone!"
Happy New Year and welcome to the group Lais!
That's a great goal :) Best of luck with it!

Hoping our group will leave you slump free. Welcome and happy reading. Just in case I am the cheerleader around here if you need encouraging I am a message away and buddy reads are great.

I mostly like to read fiction books. In fiction mythology (especially Greek myths) , fantasy ,crime, action and sci-fi .
I came across this group while I was searched for joining a group to motivate me to read more books. Last year I couldn't read most of the books which I had planned to read . This year hopefully I would surpass my challenge of reading 25 books ..

I also want to make friends who can share ideas often. If you are interested in Korean culture, or Asian culture, human, philosophy, christianity, life, or spirituality, we can definately talk together with a lot of entusiasm.
Please leave me a comment.
And I support your goal this year, too!

I found goodreads a couple years ago, but I do not remember how I did so. I have underutilized it, so I hope to learn to use it better and more frequently.
I look forward to joining you as we share our joy of reading. :-)

Welcome Mae! Good luck with your goal this year :) May you find some great books amongst the 150. Remember the most important thing is to enjoy yourself and in worst-case scenario, you can always change your goal throughout the year ;)

Welcome to the group! We have some great challenges this year surrounding mythology! You should check this yearly one out :)
May you have success reaching your goal of 25. Happy reading!

I hope you all discover some fantastic new books throughout the year. Best of luck with your goals :)

I'm Deba from US (Kentucky).
For the past 4 years, I have been setting up modest reading targets, but am able to complete them.
From this group, I hope I shame myself enough to read fewer but better books.
I like Sci-fi, non-fiction and historical books a lot.

I looked up about book challenges in the search bar. I started doing the PopSugar book challenge in 2017. I started to look for challenges to get me to read more, discover new genres, authors, etc. The challenges helped me find books and authors that have become my favorite. Unfortunately (depends on how you see it), I have bought more books then i can read for the yearly challenges. So by suggested by my sister and friends, I decided not to do this years Popsugar challenge to concentrate on the books I have now. I noticed most of them do not fit this years prompts.
So I am doing a personal challenge to read 20 books. All from my bookshelf or local library.
I would still want to find a challenge that can incorporate the books I currently have. But for now, starting on what I can.

My name is Paul I am 18 now I turn 19 (in February) and I am from Ciudad Guayana, Venezuela. (If I'm still in the Thousand Surprise Country)
I love reading fiction, history, Motivation, Marketing (Work on This) and Everything that has to do with Entrepreneurship
I'm slow reading (Really Slow, If anyone has Tips, Perfect!)
My reading goal for 2020 at least read one book per month. Saludos a Todos

I'm Joanna and live in the Swiss alps. I work as a bookseller at a small indie bookshop located in an old town.
Obviously, I love readinf. My 2020 goal is 200 books. Since I love doing challenges I read a wide variety of books, including non-fiction. But my favourite genre at the moment is Science Fiction.
Now, let's get some reading done! :D

I am Walaa. I am from Egypt.
I discovered this group while I was searching gooreads' groups for a group to join.
My goal for 2020 is to read 60 books. I mostly enjoy reading history , fiction, YA books

Hi Deba, props to you for choosing to focus on quality over quantity, but please don't shame yourself :)
Welcome to the group and good luck with your reading goals this year!

I’m a lover of fantasy, paranormal, young adult, romance and more. To be honest I like all books except for the ones I don’t like...you get what I mean?
As for the reading crisis, I haven’t been reading as much as I do and this year I would like to change that by reading at least 60 books for the year.
I love meeting new people! So hopefully I will be around goodreads as often as I can :)

Happy New Year!
My name is Jennifer and I’m from Colorado. My favorite genres are biographies and memoirs; I love learning about other people. I’ve had the same reading goal for several years, which is 40 books. I debated increasing my goal this year but decided against it. I’d like to read a couple of biographies by Ron Chernow and those are not quick reads. 🙂
I look forward to meeting you all and sharing book ideas.
Happy reading!

I'm Matt, and like some of the other newbies, I've used Goodreads primarily as a book log, but I've always wanted to find groups that fit my reading interests and background. I'm a high school teacher with a degree in engineering and also spent the first act of my life in the military.
Typically I like to read at least two books at once; a fiction book and the other a non-fiction book. I am always interested in something new, especially when it's science-related. My fiction preferences change pretty frequently; sometimes, I like dark and gritty and then need to find an upbeat story to balance out.
Thanks again for welcoming to your group, feel free to chat with me about anything.

If you have any questions on anything don't hesitate to ask :)
Happy reading!

Bienvenido Paul!
Hmm, I don't really know if I have any tips for reading faster. I think I only have tips for reading more, so sorry I can't help you out there.
However, the cliché "practice makes perfect" does come to mind. The more you read, the better you become at it.
Apart from that, I think acceptance is important. Reading shouldn't be a race. The focus should (imo) be about enjoying the read at your own pace :)
Goodluck with your goal of 12 books this year :)

Wishing you all the best of luck with your reading challenges this year. Hopefully you'll find some great books and have fun joining some fun challenges throughout the year.
Happy reading :)

Hi Marcy and welcome to the group!
That's a great goal :) I'm sure it will!
Joining this group has definitely helped me explore genres outside my comfort zone and read books I wouldn't necessarily have gravitated towards otherwise.
I hope you'll join some of the challenges throughout the year and check out the group and buddy reads.
Happy reading!

Welcome Amanda! It's nice to meet you too:)
We have some great challenges this year based on the theme of Myths, Legends and fairytales so I hope you'll find something that appeals to you :)
Goodluck with your goal in 2020

I found the group from other friends-good reads.
I enjoy non-fiction books around psychology, social & racial justice, pos psych, etc. I like fiction love stories, mysteries & historical fiction. My 2020 reading goal is 80 books.

I'm Sinisa from Serbia (Europe).
I mostly read fiction books of all kinds but I also love to read classics. For 2020 I want to make it my goal to also read other genres. I found this group by accident while scrolling. My reading goal is to go trough 1 book per week.

I'm not new in Goodreads but I made a new account to kind of renew my reading life after not reading for 3 years because I had to ban myself from the English language to study in Japan.
I love fantasy, fiction, and recently, I'm into nonfiction books. I found this group because I want to participate in group activities. I've been a solo reading journey my entire life so I've decided to join a community and make new friends who also love books. I never had a friend who read books.
My reading goal is to read at least 2 Japanese novels because I have to practice reading in Japanese and read at least 10 nonfiction books. The rest is fiction.

I also like that reading takes me places I can’t go at the moment, especially ancient times! The anthropological side of reading is my favorite, really putting myself in the shoes of people I’ll never meet, who live lives I’ll never truly relate to directly. Reading is transportive!

I’m Jennifer, from Columbus, Ohio. I have committed to reading 24 books this year. I tend to read l/listen to historical romances, biographies, fiction, and business/self help. But am really much open to any good book.
I joined because while I love to read books, I would like to get better at discussing about them.

I'm Sarah. =)
1) I'm from Cheyenne, Wyoming in the United States.
2) I read many different books when I was younger but as college textbooks became more important while I was in school, reading for pleasure became less of a priority. I'm exploring what I love to read for enjoyment again.
3) I was browsing through the site when I found this group. I was looking for books to get motivated to read.
4) I would like to read at least one or two new books each month.
