I have decided to take a break from work life and am currently taking a break and wanted to get back into reading after years of neglecting it after high school.
I would love some help into easing myself into getting back into reading and enjoying it without getting overwhelmed. any help is appreciated thank you :+)

I have had a complicated relationship with reading since I was young (if you'll allow me to be a bit dramatic with it). Loved it during primary & secondary school; majored in English lit during college, then completely gave up reading for nearly a decade. I thought only 'classic' literature was worth reading, but I just didn't enjoy it and eventually stopped reading all together.
Then I discovered Nora Roberts, and a world of romance and mystery brought me back in. One of my favorite things to do now is to pick up an airport paperback when I travel. Since COVID hit, I've been devouring audiobooks, exchanging paperbacks with friends and our Little Free Library near our house. I'm so happy to be back in this 'new' world of reading!

Hi Mary! I'm new too. I'm a romance/mystery/thriller fan too. I look forward to reading together! =)

Me gusta la idea de esta comunidad por descubrir nuevos títulos y autores y una forma nueva de leer con la lectura conjunta...
Un saludo!!

Hi Amanda! I'm new to the group too and also reintroducing myself to the world of reading. For while there, I told myself I was too busy to read or would only read things I 'needed' to for parental/career/spiritual progress. But since COVID, I have jumped with both feet back into reading for fun and I can't imagine how I managed to stay away for so long. Even in these times, I've never felt so relaxed and happy and connected to others. So happy to be back. Looking forward to reading with you!

Welcome everyone! Thanks for the info Blagica, Ill go check out whats new for 2021, thanks for posting things early so we can plan for next year if we woukd like to.

Thank you!

Welcome! I'm new too. Can't wait to read with you this year. Here's to setting and achieving new reading goals!

My name is Judith and I'm from The Netherlands
I like fantasy books and a lot of other genres. I stille have to figure out what I really like in books because I slumped for a few years 🙈
That is what I want to find out by reading a lot of favoriete books of others in all different genres.
And continue the series I already started. 😊

Hi Judith, I am from the Netherlands too. Happy reading!

My favorite books include The Catcher in the Rye, The Book Thief, and Six of Crows, but I'm always looking for favorites! I'm also a writer, and I'm currently working on a college Gatsby retelling. :)
I found this group through a random Goodreads search, and I'm so grateful for it! Hoping this'll give me some extra motivation.
Currently, my reading goal is to get my TBR down to 100 books. Which means I'll probably be trying to read 350 books in 2021. I know, I'm nuts. We'll see how it goes!
Looking forward to meeting everyone!

i’m new to good reads so there isn’t much on my profile yet - created this account two weeks ago after i read conversation with friends and felt that i need to get back to reading again!! there’s nothing quite like rediscovering the joy of reading.
i generally enjoy books about love, humanity, and troubled souls. my all time favourite is pride and prejudice, and i loved conversation with friends when i read it recently. i’m easily scared so i don’t usually read much crime novels or thrillers, though i found gone girl really really good.
i’m kind of a new year new me person so i am planning to start reading more in the new year - hoping to read between 50-80 books next year. would love to buddy up with some of you to read together so feel free to message me if you think we’d enjoy the same books :)

Hi Anastasia. Welcome. I'm new to the group too and happy to meet you. That is an impressive goal! You must fly through books. This is my first challenge, so I'm just hoping to commit myself to a book a week and see where that gets me. I look forward to discussing reads with you in this group. Best of luck to you!

Hi Jackie! I'm new to the group too and just got back on the reading wagon this year. My goal is 50 books as well. I think a book a week seems doable. Best of luck on your reading goals! I would love to do a buddy read together. See you on the discussion boards and happy holidays! =)

Hey Amanda! I’m new to this group and in the KC area too! Love what you said about realizing you didn’t like the books you thought you did. Had a similar situation and have gotten back into reading this year after not doing much for almost 8 years. I can tell this group is really going to help me... so happy I found it :)

I'm from Massachusetts!
I love reading fantasy, classics, and young adult! Im also a big fan of romance and LGBT books!
I found this group while looking for a group that I can tak=lk..."
Welcome Ella! Happy to have you! Happy reading!

I read anything and everything, but have a soft spot for Contemporary romance, YA novels, Fantasy and Sci-FI and lately been getting into Crime. I like reading anything someone recommends.
I am also a writer, not a good one :) but I am writing my own novel at the moment and enjoy reading as part of developing my own writing style! Would love to find some fellow writers too :)

I’m Kelly from the UK. I tend to read almost anything but I usually don’t go far wrong with a healthy dose of fantasy, magical realism and some YA around everything else.
I found this group when searching to see when Goodreads planned to set up the 2021 reading challenge.
This year my goal was pretty low compared to what I could normally manage as I struggled in 2019. The last month or so though I seem to have got my book mojo back and am aiming for 100 books in 2021.

Love to have you all here and on ig, bookish lovers!

My favorite books to read are novels, especially young adult. I have also been trying to read more classic novels over the past few years.
I found this group through a google search when I was trying to find the 2021 Reading Challenge, but it looks like it hasn't been updated yet.
My 2020 reading goal was 25 books and so far I have read 37, but I expect to reach 40 by the end of the year.
I think I am going to set my 2021 reading goal as 25 again, or maybe 30!

My name is Kiley and I’m happy to be apart of a new group of fellow book readers! I am from Sacramento, California and I am a once upon a time avid reader. My goal is to get back into the swing of things after a few years of a reading break. This year I read a lot of books from different genres. I currently surpassed my goal of 7 books by a lot! (If Covid is good for something at least it resparked my joy of reading) I really enjoy high-fantasy and romance and YA. I found this group by watching book-tube (I’m obsessed) and I have yet to set a new reading goal for 2021 but I’m excited about these challenges here.

My reading goal for 2020 was to read 100 books, so far I've read over 140 but that was due to Covid and the lockdowns here. I'll go for 100 again next year though.
I'm really looking forward to taking part in the challenges and being a more active member of the book community here. :-)

I love to read mysteries, some fantasy, classics, action, crime, non-fiction, etc. I always love recommendations, especially when someone really enjoys the book.
My goal for 2021 is to read 12 books. I tried 25 in 2020 but couldn't manage it. I realized this past year that I really want to take my time with the language that is used in the books I read and not rush through (although this might be possible with some genres).

Hi Shannon, I got here too by looking for the 2021 Reading Challenge. It looks like this is great for bringing people from all over the world together. Looking forward to beginning this journey with y'all. Bon voyage!

I discovered goodreads this year and think it is a great way to keep up with my reading:)
Even though Corona really annoys me at the moment I re-discovered my love for reading and read more than I expected 😌 My goal was actually 1 book/month but I read so many more and am really happy about that.
I‘m from Germany, if the books are originally English I try to read them in the original language. My library doesn’t have too many English books though 😐
I honestly read every Genre, haven’t found my way in poems yet but I’ll be happy to try that sometimes. My favorite author is Chris Carter - totally recommend almost every thriller of him. ☺️

I am Rona and I am from Ireland.
I have been going through a serious reading slump, partially because I have been ill on and off, this past year and the year before that. I am hoping to get back into reading more books for 2021, and hopefully this group will inspire and motivate me somewhat.

I'm Katy from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (USA). I love reading and try to read just about everything I can. My favorites tend to be historical fiction, thrillers and YA novels. I found this group by looking for groups on Goodreads that have challenges. I was part of the Popsugar Reading Challenge for a few years but lately the prompts just haven't really been pulling me and I'm looking for smaller, more frequent challenges. My reading goal for this upcoming year is to try to read as much as I can. I'm expecting my first child in March so..I'm thinking it won't be as much as past years! :'D

I enjoy reading literary fiction, classics, non-fiction (nature or related to my job as a school-based occupational therapist), thrillers, celebrity memoirs and more depending on what strikes my fancy!
I actually googled 2021 Reading Challenge Goodreads and this group came up! I'm very excited to connect with out book worms!
My 2021 reading goal will be 24 books! Hopefully, my husband and I will be bringing home our first child, so I don't want to have too high of a goal...

Kris from the Chicagoland area.
Mainly enjoy suspense/thriller with some true crime, sci-fi and YA thrown in for good measure. Self-proclaimed Potterhead having read the series more times than I care to share.
Found the group through a Google search looking for the 2021 Reading Challenge.
Looking forward to some group reads and just hoping to keep on reading through 2021!

I love to read mystery and thriller books! I’ve even dipped into some true crime books as well. Right now I’m reading the Ali Reynolds series by J. A. Jance and I’m on book #5. I’m really enjoying this series!

I struggle to find the time to read a lot since I’m busy between uni and my job but I always squeeze a bit of reading into my week.
I hope that this group will motivate me to read more, I’m looking forward to it!!

I love Terry Pratchett too. I was introduced to them by my son. Thanks for reminding me that I need to add some of his books to my reading list. Happy reading!

Ooooh, Suresh, if you like classics you must consider reading Bleak House and Little Dorrit by Dickens. He is the master at pointing out the injustices and absurdities of life in his time. If you choose to read them you might like to view the BBC series of both of them (Bleak House 2005, Little Dorrit (2008). I love those stories.
