Introduce Yourself to the Group - 2020

I'm Suzanne from Ohio (USA) and I'm going to try to get back into the swing of reading. I was diagnosed with PTSD and my meds have kept me from being able to enjoy reading but this is the year I take back my life. I'm going to be bold and ask if I start to falter if some of you will just kick me in the butt and help me get motivated again. I'm in a cozy mystery streak with my books but I also enjoy history and biographies. I miss playing along in the cozy bingo so hopefully by spring I will be able to join again and play with those of you who also play. Happy New Year!

I tend to read political/military thrillers but I’ve been expanding my horizons lately. Due to my long commute every day, I tend to listen to books more than I read them.
My goals are two-fold this year. I want to “read” at least 52 books but I also want to reach 15,000 pages read/listened to throughout the year.

I am from Arizona is the United States.
I enjoy fiction, realistic fiction, mystery, thriller, true crime, and certain supernatural books.
I am new to goodreads and joined because I created a challenge for myself to read a book a week this year because I find it brings me more joy than anything else.

I enjoy historical reads, both fiction and non-fiction, biographies, sci-fi, poetry, and a wide array of novels and short stories. I just rediscovered Goodreads two weeks ago, and inspired by my son's required reading list for school, am currently reading my way back through a lot of classic literature! I don't know how many books I read last year, but I usually average around one book per week depending on the length, so I have set a goal to read 52 books in 2020!

I am a stay at home mom about to finish my second Associates degree and transition back to the workplace.
I have a wonderful wife Tina, two great step kids, 3 lovely cats and 2 adorable dogs. I love to read, craft and drink coffee and tea.
I gravitate towards YA books, usually fantasy but sometimes I branch out if the plot catches my eye.
Looking forward to reading with everyone this year!

I´m Gonzalo and I´m looking to expand the genres I read to. My goal for this years is 40 books, and my current personal favourite ones are the short-stories collections :)

I am Leanne and I’m from California (USA).
I enjoy reading fiction: historical fiction, African literature and Holocaust literature in particular. I also enjoy reading creative nonfiction cooking related books, both memoirs and narrative type cookbooks.
I found the group by browsing 2020 reading groups.
My reading goal for 2020 is to read 24 books, so 2 a month.
I’m looking forward to participating.

Hi Patrick! Brandon Sanderson came up on my TBR this past year but I have not ready anything by him yet. Do you have a recommendation on a first book to read by him?

I'm Ania and I'm from Poland. I found this group while searching for some good challenges for 2020. I mostly read romance, YA and also psychological thriller. For 2020 I want to make my goal to read more than 35 books.

Turkiye, Australia, & America
- What kinds of books do you like to read?
Fiction, Fantasy, Realistic-Fiction, Science Fiction, Horror, Mystery, Crime Fiction, Thriller, History, Non-Fiction, Legend, Fan Fiction
- What's your reading goal?
100 books as always!

I’m happy to join this group. My name is Diana, 28 years old and come from Sweden. I decided to join this group because, apart from like reading, I felt I need some focus in my reading. There are toooo many books out there, I have a huge want-to-read list and not so long read-list. So I thought I might change that. I read mostly fantasy but it’s nice with some non-fiction novels for a change and that’s why I joined this group - to both boost and broaden my reading. My goal here is to stick mostly to the monthly challanges and participate in the discissions. Have a nice reading year, everybody!

I'm Jasmina from Belgium (Europe).
I mostly read non fiction books on Feminisme, imperialisme and polictics. I also love to read about reglion. However for 2020 I want to make it my goal..."
Welcome to the group, Jasmina! Once you get acquainted with the ins and outs of the group, I definitely recommend checking out the Listopia Challenge.
Best of luck with your reading goals in 2020!

I'm Matilda, from Italy.
I discovered this group while I was scrolling through goodreads in search of a community that would motivate me and give me ideas for next year challenge agais..."
Welcome to the group, Matilda! You joined a great group for that! There are a variety of yearly, quarterly and monthly challenges, aswell as other activities that can help motivate you throughout the year :) I know they definitely keep me motivated and help me read out of my comfort zone.
Have a great 2020!

So, I've join this group to challenge me and read more ! Also, I wanted to be able to talk to you ..."
Hi May and welcome to the group!
First of all, there's no need to apologize for your English :) This is an international group with no prejudice towards anyone's fluidity in the language.
And secondly, I (and am sure many other students here) can relate that university takes a toll on reading.
20 books (or even 10) is still a great goal. Best of luck! :)

I’m Josie and I’m from Australia.
I’ve just discovered goodreads and I’m really excited about doing a challenge or 2 this year.
I enjoy reading fantasy, historical fiction and stories set in..."

Hi Klaudia,
We have a great variety of challenges that I think would appeal to you :)
Clear the Shelves is a great one to help you... well, you know, clear your shelves :D lol
Another goodie, is Serial Reader
I'm the same way when it comes to series, but I'm trying to change that if I don't the first book(s).
Anyways, good luck with your goals in 2020!

Happy New Year, Kitty and Anusha! The app is really subpar for group activities, unfortunately. I would recommend using the website instead if possible. Happy reading in 2020!

Welcome Betsy! I hope 2020 is a great reading year for you. Joining the group really helps keep me motivated and accoutable so I hope it helps you too!

Welcome Tamara,
I hope you find something that appeals to you. Like you said it's very general and there are a great number of possibilities in all the challenges :)

I’m Emi from Texas (USA). I’ve been looking for a goodreads group to join for a while so I’m so glad to have finally found this one! I read primarily fiction, anything from Shakespeare and..."
Hi Emi-Wan, don't belittle your goal! My first year in the group was also the year I was writing my BA-thesis. Like you, I thought I wouldn't be able to read much, so my goal was 12 books. My the end of the year I had almost quadrupled that.. so you know... you never know! Either way, 25 books is a great goal! :)

Happy New Year, Patrick and welcome to the group!
If you like discussing books with other readers I'd recommend checking out the group and buddy reads throughout the year! Oathbringer is scheduled for August :)

Happy New Year Liz!
There is no such thing as a goal that is "too little/too much". Reading is individual and as such everyone reads at their own pace. In this group there is a huge variety of goals - some read 10 books while others read +200. Both are perfectly acceptable!
The most important aspect of reading is enjoying what you read :)
Quality over quantity - always!
Good luck in 2020

I struggle sometimes to find time to read with my work/life/ki..."
Welcome to the group, Andrea. I'm really sorry to hear about your friend :( I hope you manage to find lots of great challenges to get you out of your comfort zone.

Welcome to the group Michele. We've all been new to the group at some point or another, so no worries! There is a lot to get used to but I'm sure you'll get it soon enough. If you have any questions about anything, please don't hesitate to ask :)

I tend to read political/military thrillers but I’ve been expanding my horizons lately. Due to my long commute every day, I tend to listen to books more than ..."
Hi Craig, those are great goals :) We have some great challenges this year to help get everyone out of their comfort zones! Let's Turn Pages is a great yearly one, to track the number of pages you read :)
Happy reading!

Hi Hannah!
I swear, what you wrote is something that I could've written myself. I also had a 5-10 year hiatus from reading. I stopped sometime during highschool but 2017 was my comeback year.
May 2020 bring you lots of literary bliss and may your love for reading continue with force. Happy reading!

happy new year! :)
i'm alina and i'm from germany~
i mostly read fantasy and contemporary (and i love YA!)
last year when i discovered goodreads i tried to participate in the reading challenge as well but i sadly didn't manage to meet my goal of 20 books!
i read "only" 13 books but i'm still glad and happy about that achievement, since that's 10 more than the year before~
even if the goal's maybe a little high, i want to try reading 20 again this year :)
i hope everyone has a nice reading challenge in 2020! ♥

I read a lot of horror, thrillers, contemporary fiction and some personal development / educational reads to expand my knowledge in my field.
I found this group by looking for challenges on GR. I read 46 books in 2019, which is amazing, but I want to read a lot more than this year.
My goal as of right now is 52 books for 2020. I was close to hitting that number this past year, so I know this is attainable. My other goal is to explore more horror authors. I love King and appreciate him, but there are so many other amazing authors out there that deserve the same kind of recognition. I'm on a mission to find them!
I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone reads! I also am looking forward to us motivating each other. There will be times where we won't feel like reading, so I'll be happy to have inspiration from this group! Happy reading, friends! :)

Welcome Kelly! I just read "The Ten Thousand Doors of January" this past year. How are you liking it so far?
Have a great 2020!

Happy reading :)

much burned out on romances back in the nineties, but still read them every once in a while. My favorites these days are thrillers, chillers, YA, and most recently fantasy and sci-fi. My fave sub-genres are paranormal, supernatural particularly featuring witches, magic, vampires, etc.

Hi Tanna welcome to the group! I am so glad you decided to join our group. 25 books is a great goal I can't wait to see what you decide to join and read happy reading and welcome again!

Looking forward to meeting y'all and discovering some wonderful books!

I’m Josie and I’m from Australia.
I’ve just discovered GoodReads and I’m really excited about doing a challenge or 2 this year.

Lisa,
Thank you for this recommendation. There are so many Challenges and I am loving it! This does look right up my ally. Thank you.

I love reading fiction and suspense novels. My favourite authors are Agatha Christie and Sidney Sheldon. I found this group by suggestions that came on my home page. I would love to connect with book lovers.

I have set my 2020 goal to 132 books, down from 2019 which was an ambitious 144, which I didn't quite make. In 2018 I read 140 books. 2019 was one of those years with health problems so I got through 123. Maybe I'll make the higher goal this year!
I love most kinds of books except horror or the occult, and I'm also not big on hardboiled detective novels. I am a cozy and traditional mystery nut and also enjoy historical fiction from any era, "clean" romance or romantic suspense, history, Christian Living books, books on intercessory prayer, and DIY craft books.
I own more books than I should since my husband and I trip over piles of them often enough. But I do cull them once in a while.
I am 66 years old, married nearly 35 years, with two grown children and three grandchildren, ages 7, 5, and 2. I enjoy recommending books I've read to other people and my tutoring students (I tutor classical English K-12 and history online). I guess you could say I'm "semi-retired", although I never really know what that means!

I came across goodreads again and noticed some of my friends were part of several book groups and wanted to be a part of it myself.
I'm open to read any kind of book genres but generally find myself more drawn towards Thrillers, Mystery, Horror, Fiction or Non Fiction, True Crime, Crime, Historical as well as Self help and Graphic Novels.
My reading goal for the new year is to read at least 30, but hopefully more!
Looking forward to being part of the group!
