message 51: by Loreen berg (new)

Loreen berg | 1 comments Hi there, my name is Loreen and I from the us, Nevada, but originally I am from Germany. I struggle as an Adult with ADD which includes depression and procrastinating behavior and therefore its been hard to focus and find time.
I came across goodreads again and noticed some of my friends were part of several book groups and wanted to be a part of it myself.
I'm open to read any kind of book genres but generally find myself more drawn towards Thrillers, Mystery, Horror, Fiction or Non Fiction, True Crime, Crime, Historical as well as Self help and Graphic Novels.

My reading goal for the new year is to read at least 30, but hopefully more!

Looking forward to being part of the group!

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”

― Dr. Seuss.

message 52: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 22 comments Hi Everyone,
I'm Suzanne from Ohio (USA) and I'm going to try to get back into the swing of reading. I was diagnosed with PTSD and my meds have kept me from being able to enjoy reading but this is the year I take back my life. I'm going to be bold and ask if I start to falter if some of you will just kick me in the butt and help me get motivated again. I'm in a cozy mystery streak with my books but I also enjoy history and biographies. I miss playing along in the cozy bingo so hopefully by spring I will be able to join again and play with those of you who also play. Happy New Year!

message 53: by Yulonda (new)

Yulonda | 2 comments Hello all. My name is Yulonda, from Houston, presently lives in Lithonia, and I love to read. Life happened and I fell off my reading regime. I’m getting back in the swing of things because I need to get back to what I’m most passionate about—READING!!! I like all types of books/genres.

message 54: by Scarlet (new)

Scarlet Shaw | 2 comments Hello, I am Scarlet, from Pitt Meadows, BC, Canada. I would like to challenge myself to reading at least 20 books in 2020. I love Harry Potter. I enjoy reading Dean Koontz and James Patterson and some romance novels too. Please feel free to message me with some suggestions as to books I should read. I am currently reading the 5th book in the Harry Dresden series by Jim Butcher. Thank you.

message 55: by Craig (new)

Craig Statucki (sta2key) | 264 comments I’m Craig and live in Las Vegas, NV.

I tend to read political/military thrillers but I’ve been expanding my horizons lately. Due to my long commute every day, I tend to listen to books more than I read them.

My goals are two-fold this year. I want to “read” at least 52 books but I also want to reach 15,000 pages read/listened to throughout the year.

message 56: by Rona (new)

Rona (ronadareader) | 2 comments Hi, I am Rona and I am from the South East of Ireland. I love reading Crime, Thrillers, Non Fiction and Politics. I did a search because I want to vary my choice of books and read more. My goal this year is 50 books.

message 57: by Rhysand (new)

Rhysand (halosinhell) | 8 comments Hi! I'm Isabelle.
I am from Arizona is the United States.
I enjoy fiction, realistic fiction, mystery, thriller, true crime, and certain supernatural books.
I am new to goodreads and joined because I created a challenge for myself to read a book a week this year because I find it brings me more joy than anything else.

message 58: by hannah (new)

hannah (hkdeford) Hi everyone! I’m Hannah & I live in the US. I am a university senior in Oklahoma, likely starting grad school in 2020! I found this group on a quest to find an active group that loves to read. I grew up reading all the time and spent the last 5-10 years not picking up a thing.... until October 2019. From October to December I read 35 books and fell back in love with reading. I mostly read Sci-Fi/Fantasy, YA contemporaries, or thrillers. My reading goal for 2020 is the 52 books in 52 weeks one. 🤩🤞📚 happy reading. I can’t wait for what 2020 has in store!

message 59: by Crystal (new)

Crystal | 1 comments My name is Crystal and I live in the Pacific Northwest.

I enjoy historical reads, both fiction and non-fiction, biographies, sci-fi, poetry, and a wide array of novels and short stories. I just rediscovered Goodreads two weeks ago, and inspired by my son's required reading list for school, am currently reading my way back through a lot of classic literature! I don't know how many books I read last year, but I usually average around one book per week depending on the length, so I have set a goal to read 52 books in 2020!

message 60: by Heather (new)

Heather Krisko | 3 comments Hello All! I am new to this type of group. I actually didn't know Goodreads had groups until a friend of mine told me last week. Yes I live under a rock, it's name is Parma, OH lol!

I am a stay at home mom about to finish my second Associates degree and transition back to the workplace.

I have a wonderful wife Tina, two great step kids, 3 lovely cats and 2 adorable dogs. I love to read, craft and drink coffee and tea.

I gravitate towards YA books, usually fantasy but sometimes I branch out if the plot catches my eye.

Looking forward to reading with everyone this year!

message 61: by Faye (new)

Faye Johnson Hello from California. I'm Faye. I've been an avid reader most of my life, but slowed down significantly while I was working and raising a family. Now that I'm retired, I'm rediscovering how much I love to read! Favorites: Historical fiction, biography, non-fiction. I read 25 books last year, aiming for 36 this year, starting with The Winter People by John Ehle.

message 62: by Heather (new)

Heather (laney3) Hi, I'm Heather from Colorado. I live with my husband and ball-loving dog. I teach 4th graders. I like books I can learn something from, usually history or science but lately biographies, too. I also like science fiction and anything different from what I usually read. My GR goal is 40 books this year.

message 63: by Gonzalo (new)

message 68: by Diana (new)

Diana | 4 comments Hi everybody!
I’m happy to join this group. My name is Diana, 28 years old and come from Sweden. I decided to join this group because, apart from like reading, I felt I need some focus in my reading. There are toooo many books out there, I have a huge want-to-read list and not so long read-list. So I thought I might change that. I read mostly fantasy but it’s nice with some non-fiction novels for a change and that’s why I joined this group - to both boost and broaden my reading. My goal here is to stick mostly to the monthly challanges and participate in the discissions. Have a nice reading year, everybody!

message 69: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Lessman (kellylingen) | 1 comments Hey there! I'm Kelly and I found this group shortly after setting my reading goal for 2020. I love reading a variety of genres, but my favorites are suspense/thriller, true crime, horror, and I love browsing new fiction recommendations, too! I am currently reading The Ten Thousand Doors of January on the new Paper White Kindle I got for Christmas (yay!). Hope to exceed my reading goal for this year, find some new friends that also love to read, and to discover some good titles to add to my list! Happy New Year, everyone!

Hi May and welcome to the group!
First of all, there's no need to apologize for your English :) This is an international group with no prejudice towards anyone's fluidity in the language.
And secondly, I (and am sure many other students here) can relate that university takes a toll on reading.
20 books (or even 10) is still a great goal. Best of luck! :)

Happy New Year Liz!
There is no such thing as a goal that is "too little/too much". Reading is individual and as such everyone reads at their own pace. In this group there is a huge variety of goals - some read 10 books while others read +200. Both are perfectly acceptable!
The most important aspect of reading is enjoying what you read :)
Quality over quantity - always!

Good luck in 2020

Hi Hannah!
I swear, what you wrote is something that I could've written myself. I also had a 5-10 year hiatus from reading. I stopped sometime during highschool but 2017 was my comeback year.
May 2020 bring you lots of literary bliss and may your love for reading continue with force. Happy reading!

message 86: by Alina (new)

Alina (alin01) hello everyone!
happy new year! :)

i'm alina and i'm from germany~
i mostly read fantasy and contemporary (and i love YA!)

last year when i discovered goodreads i tried to participate in the reading challenge as well but i sadly didn't manage to meet my goal of 20 books!
i read "only" 13 books but i'm still glad and happy about that achievement, since that's 10 more than the year before~
even if the goal's maybe a little high, i want to try reading 20 again this year :)

i hope everyone has a nice reading challenge in 2020! ♥

message 87: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany (tiffany_heather) Hello all! My name is Tiffany and I currently reside in South Carolina!

I read a lot of horror, thrillers, contemporary fiction and some personal development / educational reads to expand my knowledge in my field.

I found this group by looking for challenges on GR. I read 46 books in 2019, which is amazing, but I want to read a lot more than this year.

My goal as of right now is 52 books for 2020. I was close to hitting that number this past year, so I know this is attainable. My other goal is to explore more horror authors. I love King and appreciate him, but there are so many other amazing authors out there that deserve the same kind of recognition. I'm on a mission to find them!

I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone reads! I also am looking forward to us motivating each other. There will be times where we won't feel like reading, so I'll be happy to have inspiration from this group! Happy reading, friends! :)

I recently got back into reading from my very long reading slump. (I had a lot going on around that time) So hopefully this group will help motivate me!

message 96: by Paula (new)

Paula | 2 comments Hello, I'm Paula and I'm from the Acadiana area of Louisiana. My reading tends to be weighted towards speculative fiction, but is not confined to those genres. If I had to pick a favorite book, I would choose Kazuo Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go. I could never make a top ten list, however, since there would be way too many books tied for the number two spot.

Looking forward to meeting y'all and discovering some wonderful books!

Sarah Moser (sarahgm917) | 3 comments Greetings from Long Beach, Washington and Happy New Year.

I have set my 2020 goal to 132 books, down from 2019 which was an ambitious 144, which I didn't quite make. In 2018 I read 140 books. 2019 was one of those years with health problems so I got through 123. Maybe I'll make the higher goal this year!

I love most kinds of books except horror or the occult, and I'm also not big on hardboiled detective novels. I am a cozy and traditional mystery nut and also enjoy historical fiction from any era, "clean" romance or romantic suspense, history, Christian Living books, books on intercessory prayer, and DIY craft books.

I own more books than I should since my husband and I trip over piles of them often enough. But I do cull them once in a while.

I am 66 years old, married nearly 35 years, with two grown children and three grandchildren, ages 7, 5, and 2. I enjoy recommending books I've read to other people and my tutoring students (I tutor classical English K-12 and history online). I guess you could say I'm "semi-retired", although I never really know what that means!
