Apurva Tiwari Hello, I'm Apurva. I've started reading and revived this habit after a super long gap of several years. I'm a researcher in the area of Computational Sciences. Nowadays, my focus is on knowing what world/life view people from around the world have and how has that shaped their thinking.

message 824: by Wade (new)

Wade Sisler (wsisler) | 9 comments Hello - my name is Wade from Bethesda, MD. Diverse reading interests - fiction, sci-fi, bio/history, science. Finally getting to my new year's resolution of joining some kind of book club. My book diet increased dramatically about two years ago when I had to look away from physical books and screens while recovering from eye surgery. Discovery Libby was huge! Also decided to distance a bit from the news during my commute. (Not trivial for a news junkie.) Just casually started tracking finished books via goodreads and enjoyed the accomplishment more than I anticipated. My 2020 goal of 30 books took a hit this year during the shock of CV19 and trying to metabolize Andrew Robert's 50+ hour audiobook on Churchill (finally finished yesterday). Thanks to teleworking and missing that structured time in the car, I'm getting a less time in on my books. So my booklist is suffering, but the tomatoes are booming. Ultimately, looking for some small groups or individuals I can discuss a few of my current favs. The 2020 list so far (Dune, Pachinko, There There, The Topeka School, Medallion Status, Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage, This is how You Lose the Time War, Churchill: Walking with Destiny. Currently reading Jenny Offill's Weather. So that only gives me eight so far this year. I imagine I'll have more time to listen as I work inside during the heat of the day making pesto or tomato sauce and will be quite content if I get close to twenty.

message 825: by Alexandra (new)

message 829: by Winnie (new)

Winnie Xu | 1 comments Hello, I'm Winnie and I'm currently in NYC. I like to read fantasy, romance, celebrity books, and food-related accounts!

I use GoodReads to keep me accountable since I didn't really read as a pass time until the last few years. My goal this year is 35 books and I'm almost there! Another goal I have this year is to read 5 books in genres I usually wouldn't.

I joined this group to hopefully make some friends and get some recommendations!

hi Winnie welcome to the group so happy to have you join us! I love celebrity Memoirs too I am not sure if that is your thing or not but I loved Open Book and if you want something out of your comfort zone try anything by J.P. Delaney for a good thriller. Esther (eshchory) Hi I'm Esther.
I am a longtime GR member and looking for some reading challenge encouragement.
I normally read on my commute but Corona has changed all that and now I am having trouble finding time to read before I conk out on the sofa at the end of the day.
My favourite genre is scifi but I also like non-quest fantasy and general fiction.

message 834: by Gabbie (last edited Jun 17, 2020 02:55AM) (new)

Gabbie (gabbiemarie) | 1 comments Hello everyone!
My name is Gabbie and I am from Yorkshire, UK.
I love to read almost any type of fiction. My love of reading began (and continued) with the Harry Potter series. Now, I love to read YA series, retellings of fairytales, urban fantasy, classics and the occasional romance novel. I will pretty much read anything so please feel free to reccommend the books you love :)

My goal this year was 100 books with the hope to read more. However, during the Covid-19 pandemic I haven't had as much time to read, so have reduced my goal to 50 books.

I would love to find some buddies to read with :) Unfortunately, my partner and friends don't really read for pleasure, so I rarely have anyone to natter about books with.

message 835: by Dayan (new)

Dayan Youssef (dayansalah) | 1 comments Hi all,

My name is Dayan and I am from Melbourne Australia. I joined this group because I was looking to connect with others that enjoy reading.

I am wanting to read 50 books this year. There is nothing more amazing than that feeling you get when you know you should take a break and stop reading but there is no part of your physicality that is willing to move. I live for that moment!

I am hoping to connect with like minded people and make friends and talk about all the amazing reads and books. So feel free to add me. I love reading all genres. My favourite books that I have read as of late are; The Silent patient, Wonder, Still Alice, The picture of Dorian Gray and Burial Rites. I just finished reading Know my name and I definitely need something uplifting after that read. Any suggestions?

Look forward to connecting!
Dayan

message 836: by Fede (new)

Fede | 1 comments Hi, I'm Federico. I'm from Rome. I only discovered Goodreads this year. I hope that this can be a space to talk about books 'cause I haven't to much friends that are interested in reading :/
My favorite genres are Non-fiction, Philosophy and classics principally, but, I'm very polyhedral. I expect that this group can be an encouragement to discover a new ways to approach reading :)

Stephanie B | 3 comments Hi! I'm Stephanie
I'm originally from Texas but we currently live in Georgia. This is my second year to use Goodreads and I just found the groups! I'm so excited to be here. My goal last year was to read 250 books and I ended up at 276 I believe. Because of how close I was to my goal I decided to keep it the same for this year too!
I love almost all Romance types. Christian, Sports, Shifter, Sci Fi, Contemporary, Paranormal, Fantasy, Suspense, Young Adult. There are a few I'm not a big fan of but it doesn't mean I won't read them 😂

message 839: by Blagica , Challenges (new)

message 840: by Aria (new)

Aria (ariareadsbooks) Hello! My name's Aria, I'm a book blogger, and I love reading! I am from Oregon, and I've lived there my whole life. I love lots of different genres, but my favorites are historical fiction, contemporary, and sometimes fantasy. I found this group because I've been looking for a group to find, and this one looked really fun! I've been using Goodreads as a personal way to track the books I read since last fall, but I've never joined a group before. My reading goal for 2020 is to read 200 books. So far, I'm a little over halfway there! I'm really excited to be a part of this group!

Hello - what are your top picks for historical fiction? Just kind of starting out in that genre. All the Light We Cannot See was probably my top book from my 2019 list.

message 842: by joelyn (last edited Jun 18, 2020 06:44PM) (new)

joelyn (joelynchristene) | 51 comments Hi! I'm Joelyn, and from Ohio! My favorite genre is YA, specifically about race, sexuality, or other topics I feel strongly about. In my free time, I enjoy studying political issues and debating, reading, watching TV (The Walking Dead or Supernatural, usually), listening to music (rap and RnB is definitely my vibe), playing with my dog, and drinking coffee. I have been using Goodreads since the beginning of the year to track my reading and find new books, but I've never been really active in the few groups that I did join, so I'm hoping to change that! My favorite book is The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, which I just finished reading for the second time today! My 2020 reading goal is 12 books, and I've read 8 so far, but I've been much more into reading lately, so hopefully I can pass my goal! None of my friends enjoy reading, so feel free to add me so we can discuss books, or just to see each others reviews! Much love!! :) <3

message 843: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Good Heya! My names Jennifer and I’m from Australia! I’m pretty open to reading most genres and am always looking to expand my reading horizon. I’ve set myself a low goal of ten books this year because I find studying and reading a bit difficult but hoping to get back into reading! Thank you! :)

message 844: by Sian (new)

Sian (hunnibee) | 3 comments Hi everyone....I'm sian, from uk, West Yorkshire. (I've already completed 2020 reading challenge...YAY ME!!!) I don't have a particular favourite genre to read I read loads of different books as I can see from my books in my profile. If I'm not reading in either watching T.V. SHOWS (Walking dead, Supernatural, Once upon a time, vampire diaries, the originals, law and order SVU, bones, Grey's anatomy) -just to name a few but I watch lots of things. Having cuddles with pets and other half or drinking ☕. If anyone would like to buddy read anyone of the books I've got on my lists I'm more than happy to do so

message 845: by Scarlettsens (new)

Scarlettsens Hello all! I'm Scarlett from Indonesia. I'm not an English speaker so please don't mind my bad English. I've been on goodreads since the last two years, but never explore more about the site. I found this group while scrolling through goodreads group. So I think I might search for friends while I'm here.

In general I enjoy fiction books, especially young adult, romance, historical fiction, fantasy, mystery, etc. My reading goal would definitely expand my reading genre, I've been wanting to try to read nonfiction these past months. Specifically I want to read 30 books for 2020 because last year I was aiming for 50 but failed miserably haha. Looking forward to have a nice 2020 with yall here :))

message 846: by Heaven (new)

Heaven | 8 comments Hello! My name is Heaven and I'm from Sacramento, California in the US!

I enjoy reading Fiction esp Young Adult fiction. I'm trying to get into contemporary fiction and self help books. Basically more "adult".

I am 22 and I enjoy reading but I work 2 jobs, live with my BF, and just got a cat and also am trying to lose 30+ lbs so sometimes I am overwhelmed with life and I want to start getting back into reading because I have 50+ books and about 25 of them are new and haven't been read yet. Just sitting and collecting dust lol.

I wanted to make online friends that also enjoy reading or are around my age and can give me advice or just talk to me. I moved out of my familys house because it was mentally and emotionally abusive and draining. I only have like 3 best friends and one is my roommate and the others are much closer to their new friends and basically I feel alone most the time. I also think I can give great advice because I've overcome alot of adversities in my life. I lot my dad to a violent death at 16, i was kicked out of the house at 20 by my step dad (mom asked for me to come home) then moved out at 21., worked hard and saved up for my own car (paid in full), have many experiences with boys using and abusing me until i found my one true love, etc.

My goal is to read more, discuss what i've read, be inspired to read and do more in life, as well as make new friends along the way. Please message me if I sound like someone you could befriend because i would love to have connections and friendships through the love of books!

message 849: by Nancy-Ann (last edited Jun 21, 2020 03:53PM) (new)

Nancy-Ann | 39 comments Hi! I'm Nancy. I'm from California (USA). I got a special love for science fiction, fantasy, crime thrillers, mystery, and historical fiction, but I'll read anything that catches my interest. My goal right now is 24 books. I have a habit of reading a lot and then not touching a book for a few months. I'm hoping that being part of a group could help me stay committed throughout the year.

message 850: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 2 comments Hi! I am Sarah. I am from India. I usually read a lot of science fiction and history, but am currently trying to broaden my reading horizons. It has not been as easy as I hoped, but I'm still trying. I had hoped to finish 50 books by the end of the year, but had to bring it down to 25 to be realistic lol. I thought the Quarantine would give me more time to read; turns out not having enough time wasn't the problem. It's me. I'm the problem.

I've always loved reading. Sadly I haven't found enough people to share my enthusiasm and reading journey with and I'm hoping I can do that here in this group. :) Wishing everyone luck with their reading challenges! :D
