Tanya (tanyareadstoomuch) Hi everyone! My name is Tanya. I'm from Canada. I like all types of books and different genres. I look forward to discussing books with you, completing some personal reading challenges and seeking a few recommendations.

message 702: by Jess (last edited May 14, 2020 07:56AM) (new)

Jess Janisse Hi everyone! I'm Jess. I like to read a bit of everything, but I love some genre fiction. Sci-fi, fantasy, mystery, thriller... I graduated from university a year ago and am really missing the discussions from my lit classes. Also, trying to fill the quarantine emptiness with more books. Here's to some great adventures!

message 703: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Welsh | 6 comments Hi! I'm Barbara and I'm from Glasgow in Scotland
I like to read a lot of different books but I generally read literary fiction. I enjoy being transported to a different place and time. Books have been a lifelong passion. I cannot imagine a world without books.
I found this group as I searched the groups page. I'm hoping that it will help motivate me and inspire some of my reads over the coming months.
My reading goal is 20 books. I didn't want to set the bar too high as with work life it can become difficult to fit in time. I'm sure most people can relate. With the current covid-19 situation however I am doing pretty well so far. I may have to reassess if it's not challenging enough. I do like 20 books for 2020 however.
I hope I can talk to some like minded folks during this reading journey. Hope you all stay safe during these difficult times.

message 704: by Linda (new)

Linda Werner | 1 comments Hello, I'm Linda and live in Denver, CO. I have loved to read all my life and am always reading one or two books at a time. I particularly like mysteries and I admit I sometimes peek at the ending to find out where the plot goes. I'm looking forward to recommendations from other members of this group.

message 705: by Jack (new)

Jack Swanzy | 1 comments Hi, I'm Jack, a retired physician. I just started reading "The Goldfinch" and am wondering if I will finish it. I have looked at the reviews and envy the 5 star reviewers, who see the brilliance in minutely detailed diversion. I'm already wondering how the doorman, Goldie, fits into the story, other than his name and the title of the book.

message 706: by Lilli (last edited May 14, 2020 03:57PM) (new)

Lilli (phaseswithlilli) Hello! I'm Lilli, I'm from Colorado, USA and currently live in its western slope.

I like to read just about anything--I work at the library and have to constantly restrict my tbr list so it doesn't grow legs and a mind of its own!

I found this group perusing this website. I don't use any other social medias anymore so I figured maybe I should use this one to actually interact and, well, socialize, if I'm going to refrain from all the others for now.

My reading goal is to read one book a week this year, and so far I am ahead of it and chugging along so nicely that I'm thinking of upping the stakes, but I'm going to wait and see if things with work and otherwise happen to pick back up and make it difficult to once again find the time to read. But as things go, this quarantine has at least given us reading time if nothing else!

I'm currently juggling about 7 books and am consistently tempted to pick up even more. I have found this style of reading works best for me; I lose interest too easily if I don't have a new fiction, a new non-fiction, perhaps a few classics, a self-help or how-to, and maybe a few others on the currently-reading list. It takes a really special book to capture my attention away from others.

Anyways that was a lot of information! I'm at the end of my workday here at the library, trying to kill the last few minutes of the afternoon. It's lovely to meet you all!

Hope you all will love to read even my books....😊❣

message 711: by Emma (new)

Emma Hi! I'm Emma and I live in Denmark (Scandinavia, Northern Europe). I am new to Goodreads, but I'm trying to fall in love with reading again and I thought this group would be a good source of motivation and inspiration.
I mostly read fiction, YA, romance and occasionally self-help books. My reading goal this year is 10-12 books, and I enjoy audiobooks as well as physical books.
Very open to reading suggestions and recommendations!🤍📚

message 712: by Amy (new)

Amy (amyshick) | 18 comments Hey hey! So glad to be here, my name is Amy and I am from California. I love reading books that will help me grow and learn something either morally, mentally, or physically, or spiritually. I also love humorous and sad. (I rarely cry for books but when I do, golly I love it!) My reading goal is usually 100, but this year I am finally going to college and getting a job that requires a lot of time, so its 50.

message 713: by Nuno (new)

Nuno Pêgo | 2 comments Hello, my name is Nuno from Portugal. I'm quite new to reading as a hobby, 3 years or something, and so far i love fantasy, some classics and at the moment starting to explore SciFi, space operas to be specific. My goal is to reach 12 books this year. Would love to make friends here since my closest ones dont share the same love for reading as me :)

message 714: by BJ (new)

BJ Magnuson Hello: My Name is BJ. I am from WI.
I have rekindled my passion for reading in the last year+. I read for knowledge and pleasure. I enjoy reading suggestions because it is not something I would generally pick up and read. Some of my favorite books/authors are The Princess Bride By William Goldman, anything by Vince Flynn, Then elegant Universe by Brian Greene, and the Mosquito by Timothy Winegard, and Pillers of the Earth by Ken Follett...To name a few.
I joined this reading group because my circles are not as big of readers as I am. I am looking for more literary stimulation. My reading goal is 30 books for the 2020 year, and I am at 25.
I had read a lot as a younger kid and took a hiatus for about a decade. Now, I have left the service(0311) married and a father of two girls(one is 5 years old and the other is 9). I am also self-employed with 20+ employees. My reading goal is 30 books for the 2020 year and I am at 25.

message 715: by L (Onyx) (last edited May 18, 2020 05:44AM) (new)

L (Onyx) (thegirlthatreadswords) Hello, my name's L and I'm from N.Z. I'm new to GR and thought this would be a great place to track the books I've read! I've always enjoyed reading and find it utterly incredible when immersed in one, however, Uni has stunted my ability to keep up with books these past few years, but I've been trying to get back into it as much as I can since last month. I've come to realise that a few pages here and there is a lot better than none at all. Hopefully, this will help me stay on top of things and perhaps it'll encourage me to meet my goal of 30 books read by the end of the year.

message 716: by Kristi (new)

Kristi Navarre | 1 comments Hi! My name's Kristi and I'm from Vancouver, Washington, USA. I am not good at reading physical books though I do love them. The smell, the feel. Whenever I sit to read a book, I fall asleep so instead I listen to audio books. I discovered the Libby app last year and rapidly resumed my love of reading. I use goodreads to track the books I read on a fairly regular basis. My favorite genres are Children's Fiction, horror, paranormal, true crime and self help. My favorite books to read are usually fiction for the 10-12 year old age range. There's something about the magic and adventure that fully immerses the reader. When Authors are good about using the 5 senses to describe the setting, I feel most fully immersed. Anyway, I'm new to this groups function on Goodreads, but excited to see how this all works and maybe make some new reader friends. My feed is pretty boring! I love to see what other people are up to and currently reading, it gives me inspiration and helps me find great new stuff to read/listen to.

message 717: by heidi (new)

heidi | 1 comments Hi guys! My name is Heidi, I am from Hong Kong. Getting back on reading is one of my goals this year. I have drifted away from reading for quite some times, I think since I started working. Reading just seems to be something "extra" when you need to go through a mountain of tasks every day. At some point, when I sat down and reflect on myself, I just felt so empty, because I felt like I have gained/learned nothing overtime. So, I just want to start with something small and achievable, ~12 books this year, to slowly rebuild the habit of reading.

message 718: by shi ❦ (new)

shi ❦ (bloomingsouls) | 38 comments Hi all, I'm Shiwany and I'm from the Netherlands. I'm a university student in European Law and also follow French language courses. I love books and despite everything going on this year, I find I have much more time to read and go through my tbr-2020 shelf, which I'm thrilled about. I like many different genres, ranging from classics to non-fiction to mystery/thrillers and YA.

I've only been very active in the Goodreads community since earlier this month, so if there's anyone reading this, feel free to take a look at my shelves and add me/contact me to talk about books etc.!

message 719: by Vince (new)

Vince (vincezxcv) | 2 comments Hello everyone, I'm Vince from PH.

I'm looking for an app that could track all the books I've read (like letterboxd) that's why I'm here. I'm looking for a community to suggest interesting books that's why I joined this group.

I like reading books that my friends suggest it kinda make me know them well. I hope I meet a lot of friends here in this group and book recommendations.

message 720: by Gangotri V Naik (new)

Gangotri V Naik | 4 comments Hi,

I am Gangotri, from India. I loved books as a child and wish to rekindle the reading habit. Its been almost 15 years since I read avidly.. I currently read about 3-4 books a year. My Challenge is to read atleast 10 books in 2020... I do not restrict to any genre preferences :)

message 721: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Pedro Hi everyone! My name is Kelly and I’m from Ontario (Canada). I pretty much read anything I can get my hands on but tend to read a lot of Canadian fiction and memoirs.

My reading goal for 2020 is to read 30 books but I’m also interested in reading more international fiction and get back into reading some poetry.

Happy to be here and connect with everyone.

Akshay Iyer (akshayiyerr) | 2 comments Hi,
I'm Akshay Iyer, from Mumbai, India.

Because of this lockdown and Covid-19 pandemic, people have got time to read more, or atleast i have.

I'm new to good reads and have been active from a few days now.

I prefer Non-Fiction books only, specifically - Self Help, Business, Spriritual, Investing. While i like other categories too but those fall in the back of my list.

My reading challenge for 2020 is 50 books. Well, i know it's a lot lesser than the comments and people i found here. But i want to take it my way and achieve my goal.

It's great to have such a community who share similar interests. I think i am going to love it.

Cheers!

60 books a year it great. I am new in getting into these challenges. I just didn't keep a count until 2019. But from 2020 i've started my trello boards and E-diary to note the summaries too.

message 725: by Megan (new)

Megan | 1 comments Hey!

My name's Megan and I'm from Ireland. My reading goal for this year is 100 books, although I'm definitely lagging behind on that!

My favourite genres are absolutely sci-fi and fantasy, although I do love a good horror/thriller as well! Some of my favourite books would include The Bear and the Nightingale, Illuminae, I am Legend and the Astonishing Colour of After.

I'm hopeful that joining a group like this will get my motivation back up for reading in these troubling times! I'm looking forward to getting chatting with you all, and hope you're all doing a bit better on your reading challenges this year than I am! :P

message 726: by Maritina (new)

Maritina Mela (maritinamela) | 2 comments Hello everyone! I don't remember if I have introduced myself before. If I already have, then I'm sorry.

So, my name is Maritina, I'm 25 years old and I'm from Greece.
My reading taste is actually all over the place, if I like the summary, I'll probably read it :P
My reading challenge for this year (as every year) is to read at least 10 books. But I never stay at 10. Currently, I'm 3 books over my reading g challenge (meaning I've read 13) which I know doesn't say a lot, since most of you have read way more.

message 727: by Laureen (new)

Laureen | 1044 comments Hello!
My name is Laureen. I have been on Goodreads for several years, but just started looking at the groups. I love Fiction and like to vary the genre of book that I'm reading. My Reading Goal for this year was 25 books, but I did not know we would be in the middle of a pandemic when I set it and I've already read 19 books, so I'm well on my way! I have been reading a lot more lately and have been going back and forth between audio books, paperbacks/hardcovers, and Kindle. Since the library is closed, I am taking the time to read books that I have been meaning to get to for a while. I am looking forward to hearing what other people have to say about the books they are reading!

message 728: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi! I'm Laura I am from a small town in North West of the UK.

I really enjoy crime and thriller books, and horrors the most but I also enjoy a sprinkle of fantasy and sci-fi.

I wanted to find a group to join so I wouldn't feel so 'lonely'? I have friends who enjoy reading, although not as much to talk about stuff in length!

Lastly, my reading goal is to read 50 books this year, although I'm not a fast reader so about 40 will do! lol!

Hope everyone is safe and well x

message 729: by shay (new)

shay (saturnia) hey!

i'm shayna and i'm from UG and KE.

i normally like to read dystopian and sci-fi books but recently i've found myself picking up some YA and mystery, too.

i found this group on the 'community' page because i'm trying to get more involved on goodreads this quarantine.

my reading goal is to read upwards of 30 books this year and also to start integrating more classic books into what i read.

bye :)

message 739: by Geenah (new)

Geenah (geenahnola) Hi, I'm Geenah from Puerto Rico.

I try to read a little bit of everything, but I definitely prefer mysteries and thrillers. I found this group through the Community tab. I basically just check out the first few it suggested. My current reading goal is to read through the physical books I've had for years now. I'm the type of person who buys books and then gets too distracted to read them. The books I want to get through are mostly about a decade old, back when I had different reading tastes, so it will be challenging to get into them, but interesting.

message 740: by kinza (last edited May 23, 2020 06:46PM) (new)

kinza (kinzaa) | 63 comments Hi! I'm Kinza from Canada.

I like fantasy, fiction, mystery, romance (although not as much of late), sci-fi, thrillers, and YA books. A lot of my preference was developed in my teen years but I'm trying to read a bigger variety of books. I joined this group in 2016 (I think) because I wanted to find friends and that's still true to this day :) I was never active on it though, but that's changing this year!
I've always set ridiculous goals for myself that I won't likely be able to finish and this year is no exception. I've set my goal for 49 books and I've read 9 haha
But! I'm not going to let that stop me! This will be the year, I'm sure of it.

message 741: by nora (new)

nora (noraelsea) | 61 comments Hi, y’all. I’m Nora, from Indonesia.

I started reading books—fiction—late 2019, so I’ve only read around 30 books. This year, I aim to have read at least 50 books at the end of the year. If not, more.

My favorite genre will always be fantasy, though I need romance in it, even if it’s just a little. I love anything YA, murder mysteries, action-packed books, enemies-to-lovers trope, and slow-burn romance.

I’m glad I came across this group, and I hope I could make friends here!

message 742: by Randy (new)

Randy Gravitz | 1 comments Hi my name is Randy Gravitz. Through most of my adulthood I didn’t read much, not realizing that my amblyopia and strabismus made my eyes fatigue and strain causing me to have difficulty concentrating on the book. In 2018 my boss noticed I was having difficulty reading a book and recommended I try Audible. After initially hesitating to try audiobooks I waited 8 months reading very little. Then on April 17th, 2019 I subscribed. In 13 months I have listened to more than 40 books and became infatuated with storytelling. I now listen as much as I can find time for and have hastened my pace. I’m shooting for 33 books in 2020 and am 2 listens ahead of the pace. I love historical fiction, real life spy stories, crime detective drama: Robert Galbraith, Dervla McTiernan, Colleen Cross and Lisa Gray. I study Revolutionary War, Civil War and Britain in both World Wars as favorite time periods. I have 200 books on my TBL to be listened to list and among them are Outlander, Harry Potter and the Complete Sherlock Holmes and The Tale of Genji for some long immersive plans. My two favorite books so far are The Weight of Ink and Woman of No Importance by Rachel Kadish and Sonia Purnell. My next classic is Persuasion and my next soap opera I look forward to are The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I have branched our to include Libro.fm for buying books and Libby and OverDrive to save money and borrow my listening list from the library where I have 7 library cards. I’m looking to make new friends here with whom I can trade book recommendations. I also am an avid fountain pen user and pen pal letter writer and I journal as often as I can. Thank you for welcoming me into the group.

Breanne Draper Hi, i'm Breanne, I am from Pennsylvania (USA). I have always loved to read, but stopped for quite awhile. Now i'm getting back into it with my 2020 goal being 40 books. So far I have read 17 from romance, mystery, horror, some fantasy, and young adult fiction. I found this group by having an interest in joining a book club and realizing online ones exist! Hoping this keeps on track for reading for the year and to find new book recommendations for my tbr.

I love the idea of book challenges and new genres I haven't experienced. I love historic fiction, memoirs and romance novels. I like anything really that's not too dark but I am willing to read and give my perspective on any book. I want to stay open minded to different books as I would be traveling to new places. I love to learn, read and write. Thank you for now!

ingridsreads | 2 comments Hey!

I am Ingrid, and I’m from Norway. I found this group through Lala (BooksandLala)’s profile, as her videoes introduced me to Goodreads. I love reading, but find it hard to be consistent because I get easily distracted, so I’ve set myself a light goal of 50 books a year, and as of today, near the end of May, I have read parts of many books but only finished 5 in their entirety. Hoping to change this by making more time for recreational reading!
