Sara Hollingsworth | 286 comments Hi, I'm Sara. I'm from California. I just found this group while scrolling through the community page. I've been looking to join more groups and challenges now that I have all this spare time (thank you coronavirus? but not really) I'm looking to challenge myself to read more. I read a little of everything but I'm more of a fantasy/sci-fi reader than anything else. My goal for this year is to read 175 books and I'm at 50 books read right now.

Σταμάτης Καρασαββίδης (nerevakiin) greetings everyone! im Stamatis, from Greece. i mostly read philosophy, psychoanalysis, history, poetry, theatrical, science, theology and political books. i found this group on the top of goodreads groups and joined because goodreads alone didn't look much fun without anyone else sharing and rating books.
my reading goal is 30 books for this year.

message 559: by Tomasz (new)

Tomasz Doweyko | 1 comments Hi everyone!

I’m Tomasz from Sweden, nice to meet you all :)

Goal 2020: 100 books

I enjoy reading both fiction and non-fiction (philosophy, business, history, politics, art etc.). I try to vary as much as possible but usually end up a bit heavy on the non-fiction side. On the other hand, most of my top rated books are fiction – isn’t that weird? :)

I always read in original language when it’s Swedish, Polish and English – the rest will vary depending on language similarity, quality of translation and availability.

My goal for this year is 100 books, which will be a challenge as I’ve never read more than 50 books a year (also, I’m already behind as January and February only generated 4 reads). I’m curious to see if I’ll manage. Hope to get some inspiration from and perhaps participate in some insightful discussions together with all the rest of you.

Cheers!

message 561: by L Y N N (new)

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 2389 comments Hello! I am a bit late in introducing myself, but now that I am working from home I have more time to spend on Goodreads AND read! :)

I have been a lifelong reader and recently began participating in reading challenges, most of them here on Goodreads with different groups, of which 2020 Reading Challenges is one. I am working really hard to try to reach an overall goal of 100 books read for 2020. I read 99 in 2019! Dang! Just one more!

I also participate in four IRL book clubs as well as another two online book discussion groups. I started blogging book reviews, but since joining reading challenges last year I haven't been posting many of those. It's such a conundrum. Spend time composing a book review or keep reading!

One of the things I appreciate most about Goodreads is the immense diversity of readers from literally all over the globe. It is so enlightening to hear/read others' reactions to the same books I read. For me, that is one of the best benefits of Goodreads!

message 567: by Niya (new)

Niya | 36 comments Hi everyone!

I'm Niya and I'm thrilled to have found this group! I am originally from Bulgaria but have been living in Scotland for the last 7 years. I enjoy reading many different genres and I typically like to change things around so that I am not reading two books that are in any way alike one after the other, but I do sometimes enter a phase where I would be reading multiple books with a similar underlying theme. I like reading fiction, thrillers, historical, biographies, some romance and since relatively recently sci-fi and fantasy. I am hoping to read 15 books this year :)

message 568: by Tentative Reader (new)

message 572: by Charlie (new)

Charlie | 41 comments Hi everyone! I´m Charlie and I´m from Finland. I found this group by browsing the groups on Goodreads.

Initially my goal for this year was 30, but I´m currently way ahead at 20. Reading hasn´t been a problem during social distancing :D Because of being faster than anticipated, I think my goal is around 50 but I´m not ready yet to make it my official goal.

I think I mostly read classics and fantasy, lately I´ve gotten more into horror/thrillers too. Last books I read were:

Nuoren tytön päiväkirja by Anne Frank The Long Walk by Richard Bachman Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn

Next book that I´ll read will probably be:
The Cruel Prince (The Folk of the Air, #1) by Holly Black

Kesika Hello,
My name is Kesi and I am from Belgium. I like to read, I see it as a means of escaping reality and my problems. I have read something out of every genre, but I mainly tend to read fantasies, contemporary and thrillers. I was planing to read 25 book this year, but with the whole Corona crisis I now have more time to read so 52 (but I know I can read more). I've been a member of good reads for a while (like 4 years) and am finally decided to join a group and see what goodreads has to offer. (I'm sorry if my English is bad, it's my third language and I'm dyslexic).

So I decided to do something about that. And here I am.

I'm very new here so still figuring out stuff. I get stuck between work and studies and find it difficult to manage to read regularly but I want to change that. I want to read a minimum of 15 books this year. In dire need of recommendations (thrillers, classics or any new genre I don't mind)

message 588: by Iana (last edited Apr 10, 2020 09:03AM) (new)

Iana Akulova Hi everyone. I’m a russian girl with not-so-great English and I struggle to find any friends who love books. Like, seriously, anyone. I sometimes wonder if any of my friends even know how to read — because if they knew, how could they possibly not want to read books?

So I decided to join your group and will try to keep up. If any of you would like to point out mistakes in my english — you are welcome.

I love thought-provoking and beautifully written modern novels. Style really matters. Also classics, biographies, science, etc. My favorite authors are Salman Rushdie, Arundhati Roy, Umberto Eco, Marcel Proust, Julian Barnes, Henry Miller. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is brilliant too, love her. Also Faulkner, Mann, Böll, Dostoevsky, Pasternak. Just, you know, those who are great. I love great authors.

Currently reading Michael Chabon. Love him. But not too much. Like 4 out of 5 or so.

So yeah. That’s it. Keep safe everybody. Take care. Wash your hands.

message 590: by Mikaela (last edited Apr 10, 2020 04:26PM) (new)

Mikaela P | 147 comments Hello Everyone!

My name is Mikaela. I'm an avid reader from the United Stated that loves to unwind with a good book at the end of each day. You can usually find me curled up with a mystery novel but my interests vary and you'll often find me dabbling in fantasy, romance, and nonfiction as well.

I was looking for a place to share and pick up suggestions from others so that I can expand my reading choices beyond the genres I normally gravitate towards. This year my goal is to read at least 55 books :)

Happy reading, everyone!

message 591: by Britt (new)

Britt B (britttbittt) Hello!
I am from Florida and currently living in Miami. I love being a part of book groups where I can see others opinions and get great recommendations. I’m currently in graduate school and sometimes feel like I never have the time to read which has been upsetting me lately. I’m trying to be better about setting time aside to do more of the things I love. I figured a group that motivates reading challenges would be a great start. Looking forward to engaging with you all (-:

message 592: by Alissa (new)

Alissa | 1 comments My name is Alissa, I live in Arizona. I like to read a lot of different genres depending on my mood, mostly mysteries or thrillers. I’m kinda new to being a avid reader, didn’t like it as a kid, but now it’s a passion. I love rainy days in Arizona, they are perfect for grabbing a good book and cup of coffee and hunkering down. I like to go hiking with my dog, Goliath. I kind of stumbled on Goodreads, by accident, didn’t know the social aspect of until recently, and here I am!

message 593: by Sthéfani (new)

Sthéfani Álvares (sthefanialvares) Hi! My name is Sthéfani and I'm from Brazil. I like to read all types of books but lately I've been into epic fantasy and Sci-fi books. I've had a goodreads account since 2017 but 2 days ago I finally updated all the books I've read since 2010. Until 2017 I used to read a lot (like 5 or more books per week) but since then I've been having a hard time liking books so I imagined that with a buddy I would be more excited. Because of this I found this group by searching for book clubs with buddy system!
I don't have a reading goal and I just want to find joy as a reader again :)

message 594: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (hazelsky1) | 1 comments Hello! I’m Cynthia from Brooklyn, NY. I have been a bilingual teacher for more than 4 years in East Harlem.
As a teacher I enjoy reading to my students fiction and non-fictions books.
I like to introduce books that can address social emotional issues as well as diverse books. As a school we read a monthly book that can spark ideas and motivate students to be better.
I’m also a mother of three beautiful kids. I enjoy reading to them. They are 5-6 years apart so finding books for all the three can enjoy is challenging.
My goal for this year is to read more. I do not want to included my children books there. I will include however, the books that I read to my students.
Well I’m glad that I can be part of this reading club!
Read you later!! Take care

message 595: by Marty (new)

Marty | 6 comments Hi all! I'm from New Jersey. I'm an avid public library user currently missing my local library (closed until further notice due to COVID). Fortunately, I was able to take out quite a few books right before it closed its doors, 20 in total -- probably 2-3 month's worth at my usual reading pace. My hope is that I won't get to finish the lot before I'm able to return them to the Circulation Desk, since that would mean this terrible virus will have subsided throughout the state, and the whole Northeast, by then. So my true temporary goal, oddly enough, is to fail at reading through these 20 books before the library contacts me to bring them back in person. I'm very much hoping that I fail to read all of them!

I give my thoughts to everyone affected by this virus, and a big thank you to everyone helping out during the crisis. Take care everyone, and looking forward to being part of this group!

message 596: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Hi there. Well I am from Wellington, New Zealand. I work in a small office for a small company called Bata shoes. Every Sunday I have a day in pjs reading a book on the couch. Due to Covid I have been working from home & reading books that I have got on my bookshelf here. I am waiting for the library to open up again.

I really enjoy reading the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich & the In Death series by JD Robb.

I know people say they shouldn't judge a book by its cover, I do. If the cover looks good, I read the back of it & if I like what the back of the book says I will read it.

Hope everyone is keeping safe

Goal is to read 60 books for 2020 & so far I have read 39

message 598: by Steph (last edited Apr 12, 2020 03:05PM) (new)

Steph Moxley Hi, my name is Steph and I live in Las Vegas. I love to read, but have struggled to find time with kids, full time work and student. During this time period I am making the best of it by reading in large pockets of time I currently have.

I usually read historical fiction, contemporary fiction, books about women, political books, mysteries and thrillers. I am loving my time back in my groove and I'm hoping to get lots of book read during this stay-at-home order.

My reading goal is 30-60 min a day with the goal of at least 30 books a year. I tried to keep the number of books moderate as I don't want to overwhelm myself with a number. I'd rather hit it and set another goal :)
