House of Jaghuts 2020!
Likewise, Kathrine, I wish the best for your grandmother. My grandmother is probably in her last hours right now. My relatives have all gathered to be by her side. Alas, I'm just too far away.

And yayyyyy another fan! :D It's such a fun show even though I do think it has a lot of areas that could be improved for s2 xD
Zaara, I saw a random episode of the Witcher while I was back in the US, but I'll have to wait to watch the series from the start. As for me... I'm watching the Youth Olympics in Lausanne. Women's figure skating free program is livestreamed on Youtube. I took a nap this evening so that I could stay up to see the whole thing.

Pretty much what everyone else has said. The writing certainly matures throughout the series for a strong finish. But overall the tone is light, with lots of banter between Royce and Hadrian as they get in and out of scrapes. It's just a rollicking good time.
In addition to the Legends series, I still have to read The Disappearance of Winter's Daughter from Chronicles.

Got my spreadsheet setup for maximum efficiency, now... with my newish audiobook hours column, and my new helper column, I can measure pages/hr of audiobook, and have conditionally colored the audiobook column to tell me when a book is under 30 pages/hr (red), between 30-40 pages/hr (yellow) and above 40 pages/hr (green)... scrolling over will give you/me hard numbers...
I haven't seen any book go below 20 pages/hr, yet... Michael Kramer averages around 20-25, I think, doing Stormlight Archives books in 45-55hrs...
Over the Top: A Raw Journey to Self-Love has been my most efficient audiobook of the year, coming in at nearly 70 pages/hr...
All these numbers are for 1x speed...
I kind of took advantage of this kind of math in my head, over the weekend, to hold my lead while clearing easy books from my TBR...

Wait... Do you mean that not only I reduced my reading time to work on the spreadsheet, but I also helped you, the enemy, be more efficient and rack up even more points?!?Dammit! LOL

Dammit! LOL"
To quote Soo... Bwahahahaha
You should read Dire Saga, by Andrew Seiple... in the short prequel, you learn she puts a fake Self Destruct button on her "evil" devices, so when superheroes come along and misguidedly try to stop her, it just plays a recording of her maniacally laughing, lol...
Fate -- https://audfans.com/book/fate-the-dir... -- need to make an AudFans account to access the free download... mostly seems like a site that directs you to amazon/audible for purchases... and offers targeted reading suggestions...

Yay... we need a big point earner to balance out Soo+Julia :D
EDIT: Don't take this as pressure, Choko... 100-150 books is still probably 750-1000 points, depending on page count...
It's just pretty crazy, that if you put Me + Julia + Soo on a 3rd team right now, we'd have ~450 points, and House of Jaghuts and Bloody Tome Raiders would be much closer, with ~300-350 points each...

I love the mock fights because the reality is that I don't read for points. I just figure the points are a good by product of my current reading spree. LoLIf I was more interested in point accumulation, I'd try harder to do BR's/etc. As it is, I've got 3 reviews I want & need to write and updates to do for my Tracker that I haven't gotten around to. XD

The points can affect what I read, but largely I'd be reading anyway, and it's helping my clear my TBR of books I've fell behind on in the past 2-3 years...
If I was going whole hog on point farming, I'd be reading every Buddy Read, regardless of series progress or desire to read... I also just like discussing books with people when/where I can... I'd also go back to searching out challenges for re-reads / standalones...

I don't do BRs that often and I mostly read physical books so I am not a flashy point farmer, but I will make a substantial contribution don't worry!
Also, welcome Choko!

You were #4 last year, I think, without needing BR points... I know it'll all even out... the formulas make every action drastic, since we're only 14 days into the year...

Re Riyria: thanks for all the opinions! "Witty banter" always has me a little wary because I tend to dislike 'witty' books.
I don't think that tropes have to be bad at all, it really depends on how they are done.
It's just the combination that makes me so unsure if I'm going to like it.
Maybe I'll see if I can get my hands on a cheap used copy and just give it a try :)

Bea, can I suggest you try the Lankhmar books by Fritz Leiber? He was the originator of the fighter/thief duo and really deserves more credit.

It's not overdone wittiness. It just feels like a natural friendship book. I really love the Riyria books. I hope you give them a chance. But if you don't love them, don't feel bad. There's no book that's a hit for every single reader.

Thanks for the rec! I've heard of the author but I have indeed rarely ever seen anybody talk about his books

Bromances can be really awesome! I really liked Locke and Jean for example! :)

So... how you guys doing?
Just temporarily regained 1st from Soo (0.2 point lead)... pretty good, considering I've read 2000 less pages... 43rd book of the year, 22nd BR...
I'm really liking my push to read more Fantasy again... I'm doing a lot more BRs than I intended tho... it's an addiction :)
I really liked The Goblin Emperor... seem to be the odd one out in the BR, so far... not an action-heavy book, all political intrigue... Anni should check it out, kinda reminded me of Queen's Thief...
Gonna be reading The Secret Chapter soon... it finally appeared on Audible, and they have the gall to act like it's been there since last November, for some reason...
Someone also just told me that Pack of Lies has stealth dropped on Amazon... just need to wait for the audio to release, and then Hoopla to add it to their selection (usually appears a month later)...
And this is my 11,111th comment in the group :D

Man you are killing it. I’ve kind of stalled a bit. I hurt my back mid-week and with the meds I’m taking it’s been hard to concentrate on anything. So only been able to get a few hours in each day while lucid.

You need to be in the right mood to enjoy it though, I'm not surprised this book wouldn't have much success in a BR. Coincidentally, I just got the Queen's Thief audiobooks from the library. You and Anni kept telling me to read the series :)

I liked the Goblin Emperor, too! I didn't enjoy it much in the beginning because of the excess of weird names but it won me over by the end. It's nice to read a wholesome fantasy book where the world doesn't end once in a while :)
Likewise, I remember liking The Goblin Emperor as well. However, having read it five years ago, my memory of the political maneuverings of the plot have faded, and have left just the vague impression that I enjoyed it.
Haha, seems like I should add it to my to read pile 😂@Virginie Yay!!! Have fun and be patient with book 1, it's not as strong as the further books...
I've noticed lately, that I find it hard to discuss books purely on their own merits, anymore... everything reminds me of something, whether it's a video game or movie or one of the 2000+ books I've read in the past couple years...
Kinda reminds me how Niki's reviews link 5 similar books to try...

@Kath/Mel...re the Witcher...yea I'm absolutely loving it too but am scrambling to stay on sked on so many BRs that I spend all my evenings reading...so not yet gone past Episode 2....no complaints, but also no time for Netflix...don't watch much TV nowadays...only just managed to watch (prolly the last show on "Urte" 😂 Earth as spelled in Moontide books) of Knives Out day before yesterday...and only bcuz of my great Christie love...and this was supposed to be an homage movie....eeeep Daniel Craig and the nuclear gaze....if he looked at me like that and drawled lazily in that way (wtf who was his accent coach?) I shall probably give up and comfess to absolutely anything...😂😂😂
@Team: status update...I got really lucky with my book selections, its a good mix...I'm going steady at 110-120 pages a day with a couple (ohk three or four) gap days. My best days I manage 200 pages a day but these are speard across several BRs and I too wiped at the end of them to log on and post booklogs.

Awww! Thanks Zaara! Yes, I'm definitely a dog person (although who ISN'T a puppy person?) Since I can't keep one in my apartment, I'll seriously go on online binges of---...half an hour later...
OMG I've found the cutest puppy. This may be the cutest one.
(view spoiler)
To be fair, Bernese are my absolute favorite, and a Great Pyrenese mix just makes them FLOOFIER! I also grew up breeding collies, so there may a subliminal bias there. Looks a bit like a snub-nosed collie puppy. NNYERGH I want one so bad. Alas, I do not live on a farm.
</puppy mania>
Re:Witcher Did you see that recent MarySue post on Henry Cavill's historical roles? I had totally forgotten that he was in The Count of Monte Cristo. Huh.
