House of Jaghuts 2020!
Congrats Virginie. It was that giveaway that brought the book to my attention and encouraged me to buy the book for myself 😊

The pandemic has been slowing down physical book delivery for me even more than before, which was already long to begin with.
Been relatively quiet lately... finally updated my spreadsheet... despite my "slump" (which I insist is real), my spreadsheet disagrees...
Monthly numbers:
January: 840 pgs/day
February: 876 pgs/day
March: 857 pgs/day
--------
April: 694 pgs/day
May: 661 pgs/day
June: 618 pgs/day
Considering how much less I've been reading, lately, I expected the numbers to be worse... clearly reading easier books is inflating my numbers to compensate... I'll be able to better quantify the drop, when I take the time to add in audiobook lengths...
For now, I'm gonna take a break from catching up...

I immediately tanked my June stats, by pre-filling 2 books for yesterday, that I would have finished if I didn't have a pounding headache, by the time I was done updating the spreadsheet... 592/day now, unless I manage something extra today...
I’ve started playing Elder Scrolls Online which has just completely taken over my life in the last week or so. Work has also been off and on which is where I usually get some audiobook time in. Seems like whenever I do have work I have had to work on projects with other people so no audio.Going to start exercising again at night so that should get me a little time.
I've managed to read a bit more after all what happened due to corona, but not back into normal reading speed. I still have a pile of chuncksters that I need to finish.@Iain: you had a lot to fill in if the sheet gave you a headache ;)
@Bill: I used to play that also, but that's long ago. Hopefully you can get some audio done while exercising.

My work reading time has almost completely dried up, as well... this 600-700pgs/day is done almost exclusively at home now... I'm almost never working solo, anymore...
I read at home while gaming, by focusing on games that don't require me to read much... so I avoid grouping, and play WoW as a collector of toys/pets/mounts/transmog... and I play Path of Exile, a free to play Diablo-clone hack-n-slash bullet-hell, where you kills screens of mobs for loot... and occasionally play clicker games or big number Strategy RPGs like Disgaea or Pokemon-like games like Siralim on Steam...

I think it was a combo of gaming away the morning, listening to electronic music for a bit in the AM, then staring at the spreadsheet for 2+ hours with electronic music again, all stacked together to eyestrain/earstrain/headache me... I laid down around 4pm, watched a movie, then fell asleep and didn't force myself up until 5am...
I had to input about 50 books, I think... half of May and all of June... and then get book links working, then pull up the books for page counts and other data... also checking my phone logs and Goodreads comments to make sure I didn't forget anything... which I think I did, actually... I also checked my Kindle Unlimited history, but forgot Hoopla...

Re: ESO: I've always considered playing Elder Scrolls Online, but heard it was very different from the single player games, and didn't have 100GB of SSD space to spare, until recently...
Just updated my sheet. May and June have been good reading months and I now hit 50 books for 2020 :)I'm not obsessing about numbers as much anymore as I used to, but I'm still glad that I've gotten through quite a few books :)
Something different: I've been noticing that when I update a book as "want to read" or "currently reading" a lot of the times some random person I'm not friends with will like that update. Usually they have (almost) no read books and friends but a link to a website in their description (that I'm not going to click on!!) and have just liked updates from different other readers.Does anybody else have that problem? It's a bit annoying...
And how do these people even find me??
As soon as I caught up the spreadsheet, the number crunching started to take hold again... best thing about falling behind is I stop caring about numbers... worst is remembering ratings and everything else...
I know the feeling, Iain, but I write that down in a little notebook, so it's easy to catch up.I'm abbandonning 2 BR's: the person who I planned on reading with it, doesn't respons, so I'll put them on hold.
Bea wrote: "Something different: I've been noticing that when I update a book as "want to read" or "currently reading" a lot of the times some random person I'm not friends with will like that update. Usually ..."That's very curious, but no, I never experienced that...
And I really Need to update my sheet as well! I don't think it will change much, as I heven't read much, but I had let it slip again :/
Yea... that ain't happening... even at my best, Soo outstrips my speed... maybe if she was able to do her usual activities, but with the health restrictions, that hasn't been the case this year...
I'm still reading a fair bit, but my numbers are down 10-25%, I think... I'll do another update soon, and see...
My last update showed me doing better than expected... but I've been re-reading Wheel of Time at 2x speed lately...

lolMy reading will not stay at it's current pace. I don't like doing a handful of things over and over again. It doesn't matter if I love it or not. I end up getting bored.
2020 will be the high point of reading in a year. I doubt I will read as much in a year ever again. At least, I hope not. =D
I have a compromised immune system. I tried to keep up my other activities as long as possible until I realized that people are just not understanding what COVID-19 is and how much it will impact our lives.
Decided to stay home until the virus outbreak goes down significantly. I'll probably still take precautions until Fall/Winter of 2021.
As soon as fall comes, I'm going to try & figure out if it's safe to hike again. Downside of living in an area with high population is that there aren't as many "unknown or little used" trails as one may think. If I can find a few places to walk around, that will cut down on reading. Plus a few other plans that I have cooking in my head to keep my life from being too predictable.
I handed in my masters thesis last week. Still feels a bit surreal...I have more time to read now, though. And my sheet is in need of updating. ;)
Hope everbody is doing well! <3
I've been back to reading a bunch after about a month long break in June/July. I really need to update Goodreads and the team sheet but have really enjoyed not tracking my reads.
Welcome back, Bill, long break can do sometimes good.I've been too engaged in too many reading challenges in other groups and lost track of my reading and this group. Shame on me!
But I've also started my own book club on Goodreads and been moderating in 2 other groups.
It's hectic, but I'm back here.

It's weird that the competition is almost over...It has been such strange year. I hope we can do it again next year, though.
Hi guys I've completely vanished from goodreads these last few months. I'm suffering the reading slump from hell so it's not been motivating to come on. I will update my tracker with the few things I have read recently though.
I feel ya, Hailee. It makes sense that when you're in a slump, you won't be as active. Sorry to hear about it all the same. It's been a hell of a year, and whether online or in-person, I think everyone is understanding of one another just... disappearing... for a while.

Honestly, just surviving is more than good already! :')
I feel your pain, Hailey, don't worry. It will come back again. It has been such a weird year. I think there's a lot of us that can't wait that the year has passed.
Long time no see!Just updated my sheet for the first tim since July and dropped 180 points :)
And October is almost done, crazy how fast time went by...
Congratulations Bea! You're right, it's crazy how time has gone by... It has felt both fast and endless this year.I peeked at your sheet, and saw Die Stadt der Träumenden Bücher there. I have god-like respect for the English translator, John Brownjohn, who tackles all the language trickery that Moers writes. *sigh I wish I could read it as a native speaker. Alas, my high school German is not up to the task...
Great to hear from you, Bea, it has indeed been a weird year. I need to update my sheet toot. it has been ages...
I'm at the last two books of this competition!! I just saw that Soo has read 830 books and 350k pages. I'm pretty sure she belongs in the Avengers as the newest superhero.

I feel like we almost could have made the teams Soo vs. Everyone else.

Just have Soo, Iain, yanique, Choko as one team against the entire group. xD
Haha, I was experimenting with balancing team members, trying to figure out how to make it competitive. Soo, Iain, Yanique, and Choko are almost a 1/3 of the total, so they would just about balance out two other teams on their own.If we did 4 teams again, Soo would pretty much have to be paired with the lightest readers. Which doesn't make for the most interesting team, because if her reading vacillates by 500 points for example, there isn't much chance of her teammates balancing out the difference. To some extent, that may be the case regardless of how the teams are shuffled. I am rather entertained by the Superheroes team idea though.
Of course in the end, I enjoy just keeping track of my reading stats and comparing them to last year. And having these team threads to chat and share reading updates with one another. :)
Petrik wrote: "Just have Soo, Iain, yanique, Choko as one team against the entire group"Haha, that's what I was telling one of my friends at work. The top however many people to keep it interesting vs everyone else.
Waw, these are amazing readers! I've just updated my sheet with the last books. Maybe I add 2 more. I've almost forgot to do that.I so hope that we can do it again next year. I motivate myself to read at least 100 books.
In one of the other groups I'm in, you let know how many books you can read per month and based on that teams are made.
