Only because I needed to make sure I could still do it with KU, I normally just pick a theme out of a tub! I have already started thinking about next years challenges - ironically my colleagues are thinking about Christmas as they need something fun to look forward to, mine is my book challenge! Also forgot to say, I've hit my page target too, contemplated increasing it, but it doesn't get me a badge on here, so won't bother!
Another one finished, just a short story horror collection that hit my colour challenge! Started another KU book, using new authors, I read 25% in the first sitting, so safe to say it's enjoyable. Think I'm 10 ahead, only need to read 5 to hit my challenge, but I appear to have bought 17 books since Fri (one is 3 in 1, one is 4 in 1)
Kind of two books finished, I've left one at 95%, it's a short story collection that I started off really enjoying, but seems to be themed, and the last theme is war/hunting, I had to skip the fox hunting story, couldn't read that. Not sure the tracker is working mind. Bought 5 this week and tomorrow is new monthly deal, wonder if I'll be able to stick to 10! Happy but annoyed with 4 of my purchases, I finally found a charity shop that had the Clifton Chronicles books in, but got thrown by being shouted at by the staff (really don't know why you have to quarantine books in there, you've just watched me sanitise my hands, and no other kind of shop does that - and actually no other charity shop did!), so only bought 4 of the 5 I needed to finish it, and I think she had them all in her hand! Oh well, hopefully will get to buy the last before I read those 4. 5th was an Agatha Christie book that I was telling a neighbour about, turns out not only do we share a birthday, but also like the same books, but she hasn't been reading much recently, so I lent her the book I'd just bought and am going to lend her my old kindle with more on - struggled to remember how to add/delete books on it though, luckily a friend suggested doing it through my amazon account, which was way quicker, seeing as there were 27 Agatha Christie's I've bought.
Have been trying to take books to charity shops but most are closed and the one that was open, I queued outside in my mask and a man without one pushed past - I was waiting as I told him because there were already over the quota on the sign, inside. He then said "If you're not going in, I am". They had taken too much stuff to take mine anyway.Another I phoned and she said not open but would take them if I rang when I got there - no answer! So not having much luck with them.
Rather good weekend - got an absolute bargain yesterday, a complete box set of Inspector Morse books (that had an additional short story collection), 14 books in total, RRP was £94 I paid £7 in the local charity shop, they barely look read. Finished a book yesterday so upped my challenge to 45, as I realised I only had 2 left to hit it, managed to read 2 short stories today (but published as two books, different authors), so upped it to 50 as I realised that 10 in 3.5 months is only just over 3 a month and some of the ones I want to read in KU are shorter than my normal books - plus I have days off every month for the rest of the year (never mind the restrictions!). Now to find some more books by male authors in KU.
Am making myself use my indoor reading spot more, it has been handy this weekend as it has been sunny but too windy to sit out. Finished one book yesterday and read half a book today, but I may have bought 2 books this week! Don't often mention individual books, but gave yesterday's a rare 4*, so thought I would The Secret Wife: 'Room' meets 'Rebecca' in a chilling tale of survival in nineteenth-century Cornwall
Another finished and only an hour left in my current book. Really looking forward to Wildcard month, might start it early if I finish this book.
Another one read, and this is my wildcard month with KU, so looking forward to it, am reading the latest in one of a series and hoping to read some Enid Blyton and Agatha Christie. Am also hoping I will get time to read the first in the Seven Sisters series, my hairdresser has been recommending it for a couple of years now.
Another two finished, now up to date with Kelly Claytons detective series, can't wait for the next one, and another Enid Blyton finished, couldn't resist a mystery about a cat! Not been reading much this month, but 50% way through a 621 page book.
Another two finished, did enjoy the first in the Seven Sisters series, but not enough to pay £5 per book for, so will keep an eye out for those coming on offer. Finished a standalone Agatha Christie book Endless Night on Fri, I do tend to favour her series rather than standalone, but did enjoy the twist on this one. Am thinking of 2021 challenges, I got some nice organisers for my birthday, just need to decide which one I'm going to use. Pretty much going to stick with the same categories, so just a few choices to make. Fortunately, the 99p Amazon books seem to be on some kind of rotation, so while I had one month where I ended up buying 20, this month I've only bought 6. Still over 300 books in my paid for folder though.
Another two finished, so only one off my revised target. I did contemplate increasing it, as I should be able to read another 5, we have nearly 7 weeks left in the year, but figured I'd best not pressure myself. Was very happy this morning, the All Souls trilogy was in the daily deal for 99p rather than £9.99, so grabbed it, not even an issue I already own the first one at that price. Now thinking of next years challenges, going to pretty much stick to the same theme, just with one addition, and am going to slightly cheat next year.

Yay, I've officially hit my target, I had contemplated increasing it again, but decided against it! So now it is seeing how much I can go over it. My cheating is slightly different - I have a lot of collections, so next year I'm going to split them up, and count them on here as individual, as I'm not going to be able to read them as the 1000+ page collections they currently are (especially the Wizard of Oz, with 14 books!)
Non-fiction month finished, I did quite enjoy it - was a bit surprised with the first Durrell book as it isn't that similar to the TV series! Now, my author focus month, a whole month of Rebus, looking forward to it, and might even watch some this month too. Just noticed that my page count is the highest since 2012, despite having read less books than some of the other years. Really need to crack on with next years decisions now.
Another book finished, although it hasn't counted on my page limit, annoying as I picked the 3 in 1 collection I bought, rather than counting it as 3 individual books, as I'd already hit my book target. Think that will be it for the year, don't think I'm going to manage another 300+ page book, I don't seem to have read as much this holiday.
So, I'm not going to try and read another book this year (not read as much as I'd hope this Christmas break!), so will do my end of year round up. Am impressed at the number of books, seeing as I initially set it at 30 (when we had no idea what the world was going to throw at us), I've ended up on 53, but there have been some 3 in 1 collections that have been counted as one book. Page count is off, but still higher than my target, so I can live with that. All in all, happy with my book achievements, and looking forward to next years reading (even if I have just bought a book!)
