ABANDONED. Chapter book about Boy visits best friend in Heaven. Read around 1990.

Looking for a chapter book i read as a 10-12 year old (year was maybe 1990ish). The boy's best friend died and he comes back and shows him a "hole" or passage to Heaven. He visits his friend for the day. I remember it was snowy and cold on earth and it was warm and nice in Heaven. He wants to stay with his friend but his friend explains he has to go back to earth. Cannot remember the title, but I don't believe it had the word "Heaven" in the title... but it might.

Can anyone help?
