I'm not exactly sure if this is helpful since I've only read one Academy series but it is an amazing series!

This is a mystery that I wouldn't say is dark but there are definitely some dark spots. There is a lot of drama with family issues, people dying, and even a teenage pregnancy.
There is a love subplot but it isn't a huge part of the series. It is a sweet romance with nothing but kisses. I got very excited when they finally became a couple! :)
Sorry I don't have any other recommendations that are more suited to what you wanted but I thought I'd at least mention this series.

:)

I just finished reading Maus I. I will read The Bielski Brothers next. And The Illiad is on my list but haven't had the courage to start it yet!

Awesome, thank you so much! I definitely will pick that up soon.

I just joined right now:,)

Welcome! I just started rewatching for the billionth time from the beginning. I can't begin to imagine how it must feel like to watch GG for the first time, but I always manage to find something new even if I know the series by heart by now.
How are you liking the book?

Welcome! I'm watching through for the 2nd time now & it's so funny the little character things you catch with a more critical eye & when you're not binging just to catch up. So many people my age are over it because they watched it in middle school & high school, I'd be happy to discuss, GG or books :)
Ooh, Agatha Christie, sounds exciting!

Unfortunately it doesn’t seem like this group is still active :( I loved when we chose the book for the month and discussed it with everyone
