Hello Kobies. Time for another discussion? Here I'm proposing The Kangaroo Notebook, for us to get underway in January. Let me know if you're in.

If anyone's interested, perhaps I'll start with a general observation: The Kangaroo Notebook has a number of structural similarities with Secret Rendezvous, mainly spacial: the protagonist is on a descending path, and ends up trapped in a confined space. So my question is this: is the later novel a reprise of the first, or are the differences substantial enough to dismiss such an observation? (Both, incidentally, are my favourite Abe novels.)

I suppose they could be. I suggested The Kangaroo Notebook for January but didn't get a response, so am trying to get the conversation rolling.
