Fiona Thompson | 3 comments Hi. I'm looking for recommendations for novels written/set at the time of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Any recommendations would be most welcome, thanks.

Radiantflux I liked Herr Lehmann, which is set in Kreuzberg just before the Wall fell.

I see the English translation is Berlin Blues. I can read German but it takes me a while ...

Gisela Hafezparast | 0 comments Typisch Ossi Typisch Wessi I read this a few years ago. It's all about the preconception which the Ossis (East-Germans) had about the Wessis (WEst-Germans) and vice versa. Good read.

Manybooks If anyone is interested in a DVD, Goodbye Lenin, is also great.

Eda | 7 comments One of my favorite topics in German literature, mainly thanks to Thomas Brussig's novel "Wie es leuchtet". And an absolute must in this category is Helden wie wirfrom the same author.
Another beautiful book about the era (but not only) is In Times of Fading Light: A Novel
I haven't read it (yet) but it reflects also the revolution of 1989 and fall of Berlin wall: City of Angels or, The Overcoat of Dr. Freud.

Danke fuer den Hinweis.

Oktober | 3 comments I really enjoyed "Als wir unsterblich waren" by Charlotte Roth. The story frame is set at the Fall of the Berlin Wall and the story behind takes place in WW I. It's a really touching, but not kitschy story which you can't put aside. It was one of my 3 favourite books last year.
