Terry | 2379 comments Carrie, I gave it four stars. I think it was well written, and it held my attention throughout, but perhaps a bit bleak for my taste. I am not generally fond of post apocalyptic fiction, though.

Terry | 2379 comments Thanks for your encouragement, Bob!

Terry | 2379 comments Another one down: 04 Classic Adventure — Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson.

Two Bingos!

message 54: by Terry (new)

Terry | 2379 comments Thanks, Matt. It is coming down to the last few.

message 55: by Terry (new)

Terry | 2379 comments I finished G5 Classic Science: Gaia by James Lovelock.

message 56: by Terry (new)

Terry | 2379 comments That only leaves 2 books to blackout. I always knew the last 2 would be the killers. Not much time left, but we’ll see if I get there. There are so many more books I would rather read.

As someone who has never attempted any bingo challenge, that's my problem too.

Good luck,, remember you have already won, blackout or not.

message 59: by Terry (new)

Terry | 2379 comments Thanks, Lucy and Bob. I may get to the classic play (but with a switch to She Stoops to Conquer by Oliver Goldsmith), but the children’s book I chose is a much bigger commitment than I initially realized (The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame). We shall see.

Terry | 2379 comments I want to change this one: ★I2: Group Bingo Participant Pick
You can either ask another Bingo Challenge Participant in the group to choose a book for you, or you can advertise on your thread for recommendations of books to read.

Originally it was Wind in the Willows, but I want a shorter read to close out my 2020 scorecard. I would like something less than 200 pages that is either plot driven or very amusing, and preferably in the 20th century, so I can get through it quickly and enjoy the experience. Suggestions are welcome. I only have one month left!

I love The Hitchiker's Guide books too. I see you have The Housekeeper and the Professor on your want-to-read shelf. It is quick and heartwarming. I loved it. It was published in 2003.

Terry I didn't check to see if you have read these, but here are a few novellas I think are worth while.
The Country of the Pointed Firs by Sarah Orne Jewett, 88 pages
The Game by Jack London, 102 pages
Goodbye, Mr. Chips by James Hilton, 115 pages
Liza of Lambeth by W. Somerset Maugham, 128 pages
Horseman, Pass By by Larry McMurtry, 192 pages

message 63: by Terry (new)

Terry | 2379 comments Thank you, Carrie, Lynn, Matt and Bob! I appreciate your help! They all sound like good suggestions. I will choose one from these. And if I don’t choose one that you have suggested for this challenge, maybe I can work it on to the next Bingo card.

message 64: by Terry (new)

Terry | 2379 comments I3 — Classic Drama. Another square finished. She Stoops to Conquer by Oliver Goldsmith. Only one square left to blackout.

message 65: by Shaina (new)

Shaina | 813 comments That's great, Terry! I guess you now can change the name of the challenge to "Terry's got the 2020 Bingo challenge "

Congratulations Terry! Twenty-five gold stars does make a pretty picture. Now on to next year.

message 74: by Nike (new)

Nike | 482 comments Congrats! Now you're a rolemodel for 2021!

message 75: by Terry (new)

Terry | 2379 comments Well, thanks, Nike, but I think the real role models are those who actually manage two blackouts, plus their buffet challenges, too! I am proud of my Bingo blackout accomplishment this year, but really, everyone in this group reads at a level that few people do, just by tackling classic books and then sharing their thoughts about them. I am honored to be in their company, and yours since you have jumped right in. I hope you will enjoy your 2021 challenges and continue to participate as an enthusiastic group member because I look forward to reading your comments.
