This can be any book, any genre, from any country, so long as it was written by a person of color.
Some suggestions:
The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon The Downstairs Girl by Stacy Lee Race to the Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
Thanks to Emily’s recommendation, I am reading Scythe by Neil Shusterman for this prompt. I am almost 300 pages in and loving it. I’ve already purchased the rest of the trilogy.
I just finished The World According to Fannie Davis by Bridgett M. Davis. A great book about an interesting woman (the author’s mother) and place (Detroit in the 1960s). I learned a lot.
I read They Called Us Enemy for this prompt. Beautifully done book even if it is a heartbreaking story about the mistreatment of minorities in US history. I checked it out, but I'm definitely getting a copy for my personal/home school library.
