** THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS UP TO CHAPTER 13***

This is to talk about chapters 1-12 do not spoil chapter 13! What are your thoughts so far? Do you like the fantasy bits? Writing style?

I am at the beginning of the the 13th chapter and I must say that while reading this book I had some mixed feelings. At the beginning I thought that it was really but really slow. But then, thankfully, it picked up! And I started enjoying it so much. It is obvious that it's an epic fantasy novel, but the 'magic' element is still not so present at the moment.
What I like the most, I think, are the characters and how they actually evolve. I like how the author shows us their full development, especially with Fitz. But the character who intrigues me the most is The Fool, I just ... want to know everything about him.
I can't wait to finish this book because I'm loving it. Can't wait for more reading adventures!

Viola | 3 comments I'm in the middle of chapter 11 and still not hooked. I don't mind slow pacing as long as it's intensivying the world building etc. But in this case I don't see it necessary or even providing (desperately needed) details.
Anyway, I'll continue, because Newboy and the side characters are well done and the writing is of high quality so far.

Helen German I'm having a hard time getting through this one. There just isn't enough of a plot hook to keep me wanting to rush back to it. I keep putting it down and finding other things to do. Character development is good, but the plot needs to pick up soon.

Christina Pilkington I am so surprised at how much I'm enjoying this book! It's hard for me to put it down. I think I'm surprised because there is hardly any outward action taking place in the book. There is no secret political intrigue or deep mystery to uncover (well kind of but it's very subtle). It's pretty much the story of Fitz growing up and learning how to become an assasian and how to control his magic. But the writing is wonderful! Every time I pick up the book to read, I can immediately immerse myself in the world. It's so easy for me to see everything going on, to smell it, to taste it. I feel as if I know these characters and am a part of their story, too. I'm always very curious as to what will happen to Fritz, too. Even secondary characters feel real and well-fleshed out to me. I'm really looking forward to reading the last half of this book :)
