Delilah is a high-schooler who’s strangely obsessed with a fairy tale, particularly with its main character, Prince Oliver. And then one day... Oliver speaks to her! She learns hat book characters have a whole life of their own when the pages are closed, and Oliver wants out! He wants to be in the world of the Readers, with Delilah, and have control of his own destiny. And she decides to help him, even if it makes her sound absolutely crazy to everybody around her.
The idea for this book came from Samantha Van Leer, Jodi Picoult’s teen daughter, and they wrote it together. It’s nothing like Picoult’s usual works, so if that’s what you’re looking for, look elsewhere.
The chapters alternate, first a bit of the fairy tale as Delilah reads it, then a chapter from Delilah’s POV, and one from Oliver’s, inside the book between readings.
It was a sweet and amusing story, and a very original idea! Excellent for young teen readers (or for adults who like Jodi Picoult and want to see what else she can do XD)
