I've read through chapter 5 now, and I'm liking it so far.

Amber (view spoiler)[She's an interesting character, because the description calls her a "good girl," but then she is drinking and getting high in the first few chapters. I feel like she doesn't like to always be the good girl, but she doesn't want to mess up her image, so she has to keep everything secret from everybody except for Devon. (hide spoiler)]

Basil (view spoiler)[I'm glad she didn't actually end up sleeping with him, because I feel like she may have regretted that, especially if she had ended up pregnant like her sister. (hide spoiler)]

Devon (view spoiler)[I wonder if he likes Kush. It seemed like he might at the campfire, and then he was with him at school, but maybe that's just because they're both on soccer. (hide spoiler)]

I've read through chapter 10 now, and this book is interesting so far.

Will (view spoiler)[I don't like how he was willing to sleep with Amber but isn't willing to break up with his girlfriend to be with her. I'm not sure how to feel about him since he is both cheating and stringing along the feelings of two girls. (hide spoiler)]

Sean (view spoiler)[I have a feeling Amber's going to end up hurting him since he seems to like her and she doesn't feel the same way. It sounds like he's had a tough life, but he's a nice guy. (hide spoiler)]

Kush (view spoiler)[I don't really like him. He seems too cocky sometimes for my liking. (hide spoiler)]

C.A. (view spoiler)[I like how even though she is Cheerleader Amber, she isn't the stereotypical cheerleader that is often in YA books. Instead, she has more depth and is friends with Amber. (hide spoiler)]

Sammy (view spoiler)[I don't like him. He is too pushy with this whole band thing. Also, he is a bad influence on Whitney and got both of them arrested. Though I think it was probably part Whitney's fault, too. (hide spoiler)]

I've now read through chapter 15. This was a bit slow at the beginning, but it's definitely picked up pace now as I've gotten more into the story and the characters.

I've now read through chapter 20. I am loving this book now. It is so good.

Amber definitely seems to have (view spoiler)[a wild side that wants to let loose. LOL I agree that if she is a "good girl" that one wouldn't probably expect her to smoke pot. But it seems like more and more today (younger people especially) pot isn't such a big deal. Personally I disagree. I think when she's described as a "good girl" it might be speaking about her sexual activity. I think she's still a virgin. Guess we'll see, but I'm glad she didn't sleep with Basil either. Devon (view spoiler)[is adorable. I love him, and I do think he has a crush on Kush. But do you think Amber might, too? (hide spoiler)]

Sammy seems to be kind of (view spoiler)[possibly a trouble maker. Not sure that's the right word, but I don't think he's much to happy that Amber turned him down to be in the band. Plus he's into the drug scene. I hope she doesn't join his band. (hide spoiler)]

Kush seems to be kind of (view spoiler)[cocky or a bit arrogant. He's in the art class, too, so I wonder if art will play much part in this story. I hope he's a good guy. (hide spoiler)]

I'm through chapter 25 now, and I'm still really liking this.

I just finished this book and I loved it.

They had five choices such to write about: judging a book by its cover, should we have same gender schools, require history, one book that should be taught & why, and something about their journey in life.

I finished those and I'm now about 1/2 done with all the journals.

My school year and students are really good!

Some of the essays were very good, some opened up about having gotten involved in cutting, having had suicidal thoughts, one in pain from her parents not in her life so her grandma raised her but she recently died, one told how she discovered she is pansexual and her family disowned her (she's one who cut and got into drugs). Those were obviously very personal.

Some of the essays about why we should study history were very good.

A couple that wrote about judging a book by its cover said they'd judged a pretty girl or cute guy as cool but they turned out to be rude and mean.

Another two hour interruption...a phone call from my daughter that literally lasted 2 hours. But I am done with Ch. 15

I loved this one. I loved that (view spoiler)[Amber fessed up and did what the right thing was to do. I loved that she and Whitney made up (and that Whitney divorced Sammy), I am really glad they got Coby back. Amber and Will getting together at the end was just so satisfying to me.
