Dara (cmdrdara) Please keep all discussion and thoughts to the events of Chapter 1 through Chapter 5.

No spoiler tags necessary. Please uncheck Add to my Update Feed to avoid posting spoilers to your Goodreads friends.

Do not discuss events from later chapters/books.

Dara (cmdrdara) New Crobuzon feels like a living, breathing city. As Alex said, I can't wait to explore it more. It's so visceral. Mieville is doing a lot of worldbuilding early on. I'm not a steampunk fan but I don't mind the small touches here like the airship and the Remade people with metal legs and stuff.

I like Isaac and Lin well enough so far. I found myself immediately invested in Yagharek's story about his wings and how Isaac will try to give him flight back

Sky | 1291 comments The writing is beautiful. I am having a little trouble listening to the audio while driving...I keep finding myself rewinding as I miss parts. Audio was great for more action oriented novels like Lightbringer, but the richly descriptive language in PSS while beautiful to listen to is hard to retain and parse :) I'll probably re-read the section on the kindle tonight.

I've also decided to start printing out maps (and appendices/glossaries) for books and taping them to the wall by my desk. Sick of trying to read maps on the kindle voyager :)

Bill | 1596 comments I enjoyed the writing style very much once part one started. If he had continued in the style of the prologue I would probably have given up.

Very interested in what the ultimate goal of this novel will be. So different from the stories we typically read here.

Dara (cmdrdara) I'm also curious about the goal. It seems like "Here's this city and here's a couple of people. Let's follow them for a while" and not much more than that. It's like Isaac and Lin exist so the reader can explore the city and the culture.

Bill | 1596 comments Has anyone looked/found any good artwork for this?

Google image search is always a good place to start :)

I am loving all the races and remades. Well not exactly loving...Human/Bug sex kinda creeps me out, but cool nonetheless :)

Good news is in the next few chapters I think an actual plot is developing!

Mark | 482 comments The world building descriptions are fantastic. Mind blowing good.
