Kristie | 19131 comments Bookshelf Backup!

The toppler will be held from noon Saturday, December 28th to noon Sunday, December 29th ET.

We've all had books that we wanted to read, but didn't get around to for whatever reason. This toppler, we will be clearing away some of that backup to make way for the new.

We will all be reading books off the YLTO Bookshelf. Choose a book that you meant to read or one that was a favorite of yours to reread. There are currently 229 books on our read shelf. Our current December group reads do not count for this toppler.

Rules:
1. Books must be started and finished in this time period to qualify.
2. You may read any format - paperback, hardcover, ebook, or audiobook.
3. Each book must be at least 175 pages, based on the version you are reading. For audiobooks use the page numbers on the first physical edition that comes up on the GR page. If there is no physical edition, an audiobook that is 6 hours or longer will count.
4. Graphic novels do not count.

Toppler books can count toward the group theme read and/or the monthly or yearly challenge, if they qualify. If you choose a book on the shelf that fits the monthly theme, you may use it for discussion in the general theme thread. However, the two current group reads for this month do not count towards the toppler.

If you are sharing your reads on social media, you can let us know what you are reading by adding #tbrtoppler.

Kristie | 19131 comments Please feel free to discuss your reads in this folder. Since they have all been group reads previously, it is likely that someone will want to know your thoughts (and share their thoughts as well) on your choice.

Jayme | 4515 comments I looked at the bookshelf and found a book that was available at my library and put it on hold; however, the library will be closed Dec 23-25, so I am crossing my fingers that it will be ready for pick-up on the 27th. If not, I will have to pass on the toppler. Crossing fingers.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I will be reading The Glass Woman since I have not taken it back to the library yet. I’m not sure that I can finish it in a weekend, but I can try.

I read Gulp: Adventures on the Alimentary Canal this week.

Canadian Dragon | 1020 comments Looking forward to this I have two books lined up

Janice (jamasc) | 59873 comments I listed all the books that I own but haven't read yet. The exception to that is Moon Called. It would be a reread, but necessary if I intend on continuing the series.

I think I'll go with Brave New World. I got it during one of Audible's sales and I keep turning my nose up at it. I'm not sure why I even got it. It's 8:00 hours long and it will feel good to move it to my "read" shelf.

Amanda | 1788 comments I think I'm going to read Britt-Marie Was Here. I've read two of Backman's books - loved one and hated one. So we'll see how I feel about this third try. :)

Saar The Book owl | 2648 comments I think I've never made my choice so fast, but I'm going to re - read The Travelling Cat Chronicles

I read the first nine books in that series, pre-ordered book 10, then never read it. So weird. I was enjoying it, but then it just fell off. There is a new book expected out in 2020, so maybe I'll add that to my series challenge for next year.

Which did you love vs hate? I think his Beartown stories sound like a completely different author. Britt-Marie is more like his others. Also, she is first introduced in My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry.

Which two do you have lined up, Tasha?

Kristie | 19131 comments I think I'm going to go with Louisiana Longshot. I own it. I'm curious about it, and it's not too long for a 24-hour toppler for me.

message 15: by Jayme, Moderator (new)

Jayme | 4515 comments Ok I totally changed my mind and will be reading The Gabriel Hounds. It was on sale for 3 bucks on kindle - no library waiting involved :)

I hope you enjoy it, Kristie. I want to continue that series, but my library only carries a few of the books. They are hilarious! I've laughed myself silly over some of the situations. I may have to buy them.

message 17: by Lanelle (new)

Lanelle | 4020 comments I need a title with a hyphen in it for a reading challenge. I'm going to read or listen to Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore. And then if I have time, I'm going to read Ella Minnow Pea: A Novel in Letters.

Amanda | 1788 comments Kristie wrote: "Which did you love vs hate? I think his Beartown stories sound like a completely different author."

I loved A Man Called Ove and didn't care for Beartown. I was hoping that Beartown was the exception and the rest of his books were more like Ove, so that's good to hear.

Debra turned me on to this series.

I think that these gals are hilarious. Hope you think so too.

I have from the library A Court of Thorns and Roses and The Hate U Give I think these will be good

message 26: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19131 comments I haven’t read A Court of Thorns & Roses, but The Hate U Give was really good. I’m often hesitant of hyped up books, but I enjoyed it much more than I expected to.

message 27: by Renee (new)

Renee (elenarenee) | 1650 comments I read both. Hate You Give is the better of the two books. It really made me examine myself. I have some assumptions about people that I never realized I had. It helped me to look closer at the way I look at others.

Court of Thorns is good but got a little brutal for me. I am a whimp

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I'm also going to reading The Traveling Cat Chronicles. Almeta loved it; 5 stars.

Kristie, I'm sure you will thoroughly enjoy spending time in Sinful, Louisiana with quite a comical group of ladies. I LOVE the whole series. I also laughed myself silly. Few books make me LMAO over and over, out loud. The Audible versions are also awesome. Fast reads too. Perfect for a Toppler.

message 31: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19203 comments Particularly with that typo!

I meant "anatomically" but what I wrote means " of, using, or characterized by atomic bombs or atomic energyatomic warfare. of, related to, or comprising atomsatomic hydrogen. extremely small; minute. logic (of a sentence, formula, etc) having no internal structure at the appropriate level of analysis."

So I would, literally, slay you.
