Hey everyone! Sorry that Top Three Thursday has been a bit quiet lately. I just moved apartments and everything has been crazy busy with Christmas coming up!

This week, as the year is almost over, share your favourite buddy reads of the year. They could be your favourite because the book was great, or maybe the discussion around the book was the highlight. :)

Shae | 372 comments I haven't joined many FBR's this year, but the ones that I did manage to join were great! The discussion's around the books actually made them more enjoyable.

I've listed my top three in the order that the BR's were scheduled through out the year :-)

1. The BR's to finish off the Greatcoats series, by Sebastien de Castell, earlier in the year were loads of fun!
2. Enjoyed all the different insights/perspectives in the BR for Darkdawn.
3. Really loved chatting about the The Dragon Republic whilst reading it :-)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 1971 comments Don't have a top three but I enjoyed the Abercrombie books I read/reread together in this group especially A Little Hatred.

message 4: by Anni (new)

Anni | 5066 comments I joined a lot of great Buddy reads this year, I think my favorites were the ones with the most discussions.

1.) Therefore, Super Powereds: Year 1 (and rest of the series) easily takes the first place. Not sure why, but my expectations weren't exactly high starting it (maybe because Bookburners, we read beforehand, war a great BR, but only an ok read in the end...), but I loved it to pieces. Such a great book and the discussions I had with Iain und Virginie made it even better :) It's a series I really need to reread sometime!

2.) Oathbringer :) Of course Sanderson's books always make great BRs, because there's so much to discuss. At first it was only Siobhan an d me, but we still filled page after page with discussions. Again, great book, great company = wonderfull BR. And with book 4 being published next year (Yay!) maybe it's time for a reread :D

3.) The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet, I think the BR and the cozy, friendly atmosphere made me love this book even more.

I don't have a top three this year as I didn't join very many BRs, but the standout for me was the group read of The Sword of Kaigen which has also turned out to be my favourite book of the year.

message 6: by Narilka (new)

Narilka | 5700 comments I participated in some great buddy reads this year. My top standouts are:

*Wrapping up the Greatcoats
*The whole Long Price Quartet read
*Starsight

Looking forward to some more great BRs in 2020 :)

message 7: by Virginie (last edited Dec 26, 2019 06:05AM) (new)

Virginie | 6109 comments Didn't join that many BRs this year, so no Top 3 for me. My favorite is, just like Anni, Super Powereds: Year 1 (and the rest of the series). Such a fun series and the crazy speculating with Anni & Iain was fantastic!

message 8: by Aakash (last edited Dec 26, 2019 07:44AM) (new)

Aakash (procrastinator) | 448 comments 1. Strange the Dreamer and Muse of Nightmares with Angela Jr. This duology was amazing. I loved it and it will by my one of favourite for a long time.
2. Vicious and Vengeful with Katie. This book changed my perspective. I am kind of person always hoping to see good win over bad and hoping for happy ending but this was different. It showed me that heroes aren't always necessary to make a book brilliant. Villains are the protagonist of this series and I still loved it.
3.A Darker Shade of Magic and A Gathering of Shadows with Maria. Scwab had became one of my favourite authors. Her books are very creepy and thrilling. The unique take on magic wins my heart for this series. I am still stuck at cliffhanger in the end of second book. Need to pick up the last book in the series quickly.

Honourable mentions.
Catching Fire and Mockingjay with Charlie, 1984( I didn't enjoyed it as much as I hoped but the discussion was fun) with Maria.

message 9: by Mel (new)

Mel | 2360 comments 1. The Murderbot Diaries - Thread - Such a fun series! I'm looking forward to reading Network Effect this year.

2. The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet - Thread - Like Anni said, this was such a cozy read together. Loved sharing it with others.

3. The Duchess War - Thread Over in the Feel Good Books thread we had some epic conversations reading romance novels together. Insightful commentary, cackling banter... the imagery of catapulting disapproving aunts through the sky will stay with me always.
