His dirty-blond curls stick close to his head, as he finds it atrocious for himself to have longer hair and hair reaching his shoulders unspeakable. For formal gatherings, he further preens himself into sweeping his hair to one side, using some spray in the process. His care for his appearance is very meticulous, nothing like those girls he sees walking about in Laertes after school who keep dousing themselves in eyeliner and mascara. He finds it rather insulting that they think that the male population is so superficial as to be attracted only by beauty. Then he is disappointed as he notices that the boys in the community are that superficial.
His eyes, light-brown in color although not quite hazel, watch carefully the world around him. They are framed by neat, thin eyelashes, painting him as a somewhat delicate and gentle figure although not feminine. His thick, light-brown eyebrows make him look overly pretentious, and with his cocky air, he tends to incite both adults and fellow teenagers.
He has no particular distinguishing marks, except for three dimples that peek at the world from the left side of his mouth.


He comes off at first as very pretentious and very cocky. He cares about his clothes very much, and he likes to wear colors that are appealing to the eye—typically gentle, cream or pastel colors. For example, he’ll wear light lime pants with a yellow polo shirt and a mocha-brown cardigan tied around his shoulders one day; the next day, he’ll wear dark jeans with a black sweater. His eyes constantly measure up who’s talking to him, even if that person is a friend. He always seems to be on end, the way his body is constantly tense, particularly his legs, as if he’s ready anytime to simply run.


[ Personality ]

When Flynn is listening to you—really listening, not reading at the same time and giving offhand answers—he never makes eye contact, not even while answering. Instead, he looks down with a soft subconscious smile quirking up on one side, his forehead wrinkled quite a bit in concentration. He’s too focused on what you’re telling him, especially if it’s something important. He gets distracted very easily when talking with someone while making eye contact. He feels that it’s very intimate.
So, the narcissism that characterizes him is both a part of him and a façade. Being confident in himself is always easy when he was around people in public, especially around his friends (he doesn't feel safe within his group of friends, but he can trust them somewhat). But he is actually rather insecure within. He can trust people with what he says—he forces himself not to care what others think of him; he even goes out of his way to instill that, by insulting those who are close to him. In fact, he does this so much that his friends are so used to it and simply remain silent with this look in their eyes that infuriates him to no end. That look means that he can trust them, and he knows he can, but he does not want to. However, he cannot trust people with his secrets.

Ω computers: His greatest passion is computers, despite his looks. He loves to code websites, he likes to fix computers, he likes to customize things and make them more beautiful and bring out the potential of something. He types at one hundred words per minute, and he’s especially good at typing in code and symbols and numbers, the opposite of typically fast typers. Despite his rule to not harm his health or ruin his beauty, he loves does not mind sitting in front of the computer for hours at a time to work on things. Of course, directly afterward, he feels somewhat grimy so he washes straight away.

Ω music:When Flynn composes music, he finds a way to speak openly with himself about everything. All his other habits, those are things he loves and they express his personality. But they don't help him relax to the point that he is comfortable with himself that he loses himself. He is very talented at making songs that have a nostalgic or irrevocably melancholy tone.



He’s very watchful, despite his dismissive manner when the conversation topic is not him. He is almost eerily careful. If you are deemed trustworthy by Flynn, he will show you his impeccably organized room. If you pluck a book from his shelf, he will make sure you put it back in the exact same place in the alphabetically arranged shelves and the spine will line up perfectly with the spines of the other books.

He does care very much about his appearance, but he neither likes nor dislikes girls who wear a lot of makeup by habit, as part of their routine. He dislikes that they use so much to cover up their beauty and replace it with a fake, too perfect mask, but he cannot dislike them for it since they are doing something to improve their self-confidence. However, he “knows” that he is better at looking better while not radically changing his appearance—he does it more quickly and with more effect with less effort on his part (although he is actually very patient with the process).

His narcissism is sometimes dismissive of others. He speaks as if it’s common sense that he is beautiful--although it is--which makes him come across as very conceited, when he’s really just irritated.

His mature attitude also tends to make the adults laugh, but he doesn't give a shit because he believes in being independent at a young age. He does, after all, admire Alexander Hamilton very much and works hard to reflect some of Hamilton while still being himself. He ignores when people say that Hamilton rose through his own power and pertinacity from his state in poverty to his own esteemed position in the government. It doesn’t matter how Flynn started off; it’s how he’ll continue.

One of Flynn’s greatest weaknesses is being incredibly impressionable. He automatically imitates other people’s voices or habits. For example, his sister Rachel blinks very rapidly when she is nervous or fearful, and Flynn caught onto that very quickly. He is sometimes conscious of what he does and he immediately stops himself, but he can’t help it. It almost seems as if even his brain wants him to become a different person. So he keeps his identity crisis to himself as well. He is also very good at copying someone else’s voice, a skill that is not limited to only boys and that is often used for pranks in his friend group.

Flynn used to be very content with his family, having a very good relationship with his older sister, Rachel Altair. Probably the only person he admires wholeheartedly and looks up to is Rachel. He’d never had an overtly close relationship with her--although it is very obvious that he shows more emotion around her than most other people--and he always has to be prompted by her to tell her about his day and other activities. He actually really loves to talk to her, but he doesn’t want to be obvious in how much he treasures her as part of his family. She is also a bisexual but has only come out to Flynn, as the Altairs are upper-class. Flynn keeps the secret well, although he wonders what is so shameful about difference. He takes pride in all of the ways he is different from others. He also used to be similarly affectionate--or as affectionate as he can stomach--to his parents, as well, with maybe a tiny smirk.

Now, he doesn’t even try to let his parents get close to him. Soon after he turned thirteen, he found out that the Altairs were not related to him by blood at all. And from all the possible families he could have had, it had to be the Lysanders, one of the Oldest Money that he saw at public gatherings sometimes. It felt surreal, and it had radically changed his indifferent opinion of the Lysanders to one of vague disdain. He will not allow himself to feel hurt for having been abandoned; his foster family—No, my real family—was more than he could have ever asked for. They were perfect for him.
But he can’t help wondering why they left him. He doesn’t let himself think about what he could have had. He knows that that is a selfish thing to think, because he believes he has much more now than he ever could have had with the Lysanders.
The only person he can sometimes speak with now is Rachel, though his admiration for her is still the same. But he is still very hurt from the fact that she had already known of his origin for years—and she was the one who had been entrusted with the task of sitting down with Flynn on the living room sofa and telling him.
He keeps this secret about his origins to himself only, not sharing it even with his closest group of friends, who accept him as he is. The excruciating pain of not having a family related by blood who accepts him makes him feel discouraged very easily whenever his family tries to comfort him.

❦ Personality ❦ She is competitive almost to a flaw. She makes rivalries out of nearly everything. The only thing she keeps away from is cooking because there are so many sharp knives, and she’s afraid of pain.
She has a lot of trouble trusting other people, not even her parents. She does not trust her own judgment, either, most of the time, resulting in indecision and frustration. She has a secret fear of becoming an exploitative woman, like the notorious woman in Lysander and her parents and everyone in the upper class. However, she copes with it by forcing herself to become like them, trying to get used to that reality.
The most glaring contradiction with Amelie Cypress is that she craves intimate touches but can kiss very easily. The one thing she is very good at lying about is love, despite not being able to lie very well about everything else. She has, after all, followed Jefferson’s prime example in public appearances.

She used to be a very pitiful child until she became twelve years old. She cried every day in her bedroom—most of the time just from taking a deep breath. Every day, she heard people say bad things about each other behind their backs. She once saw her parents laughing—genuinely, she thought, like they did with her—with a couple of Lysanders. Then later that night, in the cold, dimly lit dining room, they were laughing derisively at the family. Amelie became used to the way everyone was a Janus of their own.
So she created her own Janus, to survive, to blend in. Appear perfect in beauty and manners, keep everything else—secrets, thoughts, whispers of hope—in the attic of her mind. She would not even try to unlock it unless she was in her bedroom—even then, in case someone heard her crying, she would try not to.
Due to the distance between the Cypresses, Amelie began to crave touch. Affection, she knew, wouldn’t come to her, even though she yearns for that too. The only time she was hugged was during public appearances. She shook hands with strangers, sure, but she always felt cast aside when her soft skin met the itchy cotton of gloves, or skin that was too cold and nails that were too long. She hated the feeling, so she started to wear gloves of her own—beautiful ones, so it wasn’t obvious what the purpose was—and she could barely feel the discomfort.
Due to all the silent rejection and dismissing gestures within the Cypress family, Amelie became eager to satisfy. She does not want to bring down the family name by doing something unnecessary, like dating a lower class boy. She had received a love confession from a boy last year—a boy she’d liked since sixth grade. She rejected him out of obligation. He would’ve only suffered if they’d grown close, anyway—so she tells herself. She finds herself thinking about him every now and then.

Rosaley’s slightly pale skin makes her mid-length, dark-brown hair look even darker, so her hair is often mistaken for black. She has red-wine-colored highlights under her hair, which is conveniently seen when she always wears a bun or ponytail. The way she avoids purposeful eye contact — she tends to make eye contact only when she’s laughing or smiling or in pain — creates somewhat of a mysterious air around her. She is average-sized, but her confident, graceful way of carrying herself says otherwise for her personality. Beneath her fine eyelashes lie her heterochromatic eyes—one dark-brown and the other green—thought to be unnerving. Whenever she is angry or irritated—out of quiet defiance—she stares the person straight in the eye. She is used to them looking away first; when a few actually stare at her more closely, she looks away, like the contradiction she is.
Besides her eyes, she knows that she isn’t pretty, let alone beautiful like the rumored beaus of Cypress. She is someone you wouldn’t look twice at while crossing the street. But when she speaks more than five words to you, you can see an intellectual glint in her eye. And an incredible sadness lurking behind it.

When she truly listens to someone speak, one end of her smile quirks up a bit in interest.


She has a faint pinkish light-brown scar running six inches diagonally from her left waist towards her rib. That had been from a secret suicide attempt when she’d tried to jump into a river at thirteen years old. She had been running desperately toward the deep lake when she tripped and rolled, and a sharp rock and several sticks scratched her through her T-shirt. No one knows about her attempt, since she went there at two in the morning while her parents were away on a business trip. Then she’d started sobbing quietly, her knees curled up, her head dug deep into the small world of sadness she created within herself. She couldn’t find the energy—or really the irrational want—to kill herself anymore, not after she couldn't even do it quickly while she had an uncontrollable urge, and she walked back home dirty and pathetic.

In school, she puts up a very prim and proper appearance, that of an all-honors student who knows what she’s doing and she has everything under control, including her emotions.


When she smiles, her nose crinkles a little bit, her cheeks becoming fuller and more plump, and she looks more like a child. But she usually tries to cover the bottom half of her face with a hand when not in front of the press. She feels very self-conscious when she reveals anything she hadn’t been planning to show. Even when she does smile in front of the public, she has to fight the urge to cover her smile, feeling how fake it is and how fake it makes her feel as a person.

However, her distaste is mostly clear in her eyebrows whose ends quirk up towards the space between her eyebrows.


Sometimes she has this faraway look—her lips slightly downturned and parted, her eyebrows ever so slightly lowered—and you want to get her away from her head. And you’re scared to, because you don’t want her to go on one of her unpredictable rages.

Sometimes she just feels like an empty doll, is all.

If you asked anyone in Laertes what Rosaley Aiken was like, they’d probably mutter that she was an intellectual perfectionist. But more than that…
Rosaley is riddled with contradictions. She subconsciously creates a mess of stacked piles about her desk in her bedroom, and she works for hours before noticing that she had made such a mess. Upon realizing it, she starts to organize everything because she cannot concentrate while she works in a mess. Rather than wanting to be perfect, she feels a need to be perfect. She hates that when she makes one mistake, that causes some form of surprise in the people around her; just one mistake is all that is necessary to drag all of her other hard efforts to hell.
She appreciates compliments on anything other than her grades a bit too much, because she is never praised for anything but her grades. She is only complimented on her beauty when she drowns herself in makeup. She likes attention and acknowledgment but hates being examined too closely like a test subject, a fascinating specimen.
Rosaley struggles with accepting herself, having even attempted suicide when she was thirteen years old after being ignored by her family and not receiving a single reaction from any of them when she received the most awards during her eighth grade graduation ceremony at a prestigious junior high school. That had been one of the infinite number of times she had never received any reaction from them. When she couldn't satisfy them with even gold awards, she felt as if she were useless and helpless. She also attended that ceremony by herself; her parents couldn’t miss her graduation, though, in case anyone began to suspect the close ties between the Aikens. She also has extremely high expectations for herself.
She’s liked a few boys before, but never enough to bother her very much. But she’s recently been wondering that girls look beautiful, although she only likes to look at them.
She loves to listen to others talk about their problems, as that helps her run away from her own. She loves to give advice, because she feels trusted, which is more than she could ask for, since she has trouble completely trusting another.
Rosaley is secretly a very loud person, despite her facade of a perfect, eternally second child. After all, she reads a variety of books. At first, she’d been doing it to aid her studying, but she had once found a fantasy novel in seventh grade. She can be lost and extremely absent-minded when you are trying to talk to her while she’s reading. It’s not that she minds that you’re talking to her while she’s reading, but… she makes it pretty clear that she’s not listening to you—and it’s not even on purpose, which makes it a little worse.
However, more confusing is that at heart, she is very shy and she comes off as a very vulnerable girl, a tentative kitten who doesn’t realize that she’s about to be kicked.
On the other hand, when she’s actually happy to see someone, she puts aside most of her self-consciousness to step up.

Although she had been born in Versailles, she had only lived there for a year before the Aikens returned to Laertes. That was how her curiosity about her birthplace came to life--the place she couldn't remember. Whenever she learned French in class, she found the language exquisite, beautiful, and mystifying.
Rosaley naturally fell into the shadows of the rest of her family, as a human puppet.
Suffocating in the desires of her small family, she feels very confined at home. Even her bedroom is a cage decorated with roses. That is why she frequently goes out, usually to the cinemas. If nothing else, she is allowed to go outside, so long as she keeps her phone and answers their calls instantly.
Rosaley has always felt a little inferior to her older sibling, always helplessly feeling less, not only in ambition and chance and open doors but also in soul. She knows that she can never be seen as better than her older sibling in any aspect. Very few doors are left open for her, and none of them bears light.
She has grown somewhat detached from the world around her because her life is so different from those who are not part of the Oldest Money. So she’s accepted that she’ll always be in the background. She tells herself constantly that she doesn’t mind anymore.
