CopyCat Pair-up

January 2020 Copy Cat Challenge

Greetings, Keeley!
We have quite a few books in common. I'm going to read East and/or A Natural History of Dragons for this "challenge," but added several more than that to my Want to Read List. And bonus: I found a series in your books that is perfect for my mom (I'm her Kindle book supplier lol), so thanks :)
Hope you can find something that appeals to you in mine.

You need to be paired up too!! I'll join in! I read 189 books last year, so there'd be some new choices for you to consider :) I'll also send out a blast to try and round up more PenPals for this activity!

Here are the pairings for the ones that joined after my last pairings:
Tiina - Anne
Khrystyna - Holly
Cindee - Ahmad
Aliyah - Katelin (Dollis Marry~)
Happy reading!
And if anyone wants to join after this, make some noise! There's room for all of us here!

Great! I'm definitely going to find something nice from there!
Me if there is anyone unpartnered!

Tiina, I'm going to read A Darker Shade of Magic from your shelf, I've wanted to read that for ages, and you've rated it 5 stars! I just checked the audio out from my library, and will start it in the next few days when I finish my current book.

Thanks"
Perfect timing!
Your pairing:
Leah - Pallavi
Ok, what a coincidence, because I just got The Book Thief from the library, and it's on your shelf! So I am going to read that.

In mean time i picked "letting go of gravity' from your shelf. the name sounds interesting and you gave 5 rating so decided on it.
will be in touch
Oh, yes! I loved that one, I think you will really like it! Happy reading!

Hello Holly,
I've noticed that you have A Discovery of Witches listed under your read shelf. I am currently 60 pages in. I would love to hear your thoughts regarding this book and see if you continued the trilogy or not.
I am also a big fan of Ruth Ware's books. So I would also like to pick it up this month.
Happy Reading!

Tiina, I'm going to read A Darker Shad..."
Dear Anne!
That was a wonderful book! I just got back to work, but I have some university things to finish up. I have picked Throne of Glass from your shelf and I look forward to reading it!

Tiina, I'm going to read A Da..."
That's a crazy popular series, Tiina! It's a fun escape read, fast paced, I really liked the protagonist and the evolution of the story. I want to read the second book sometime soon, because I think this is a series that will keep getting better!

Hey Annie,
Your Read list is most of my TBR's, but due to the size of books and my work I am yet to read them.
This month I am already reading COBB duology, so I will be picking a not so big book off your Read list.
I am not sure yet, but I will be picking between Animal Farm by George Owell (because last year I read 1984 and it was one of my fav's last year) or Lord of the Flies by William Golding. Will be happy to hear which one will you prefer more :)
Let me know, if you need any help in picking up your read for January..
Happy Reading Pal.

Hey Tiina,
Thanks for organizing this. You should have edited/updated the original list in

Because of this latest one, I thought you took my partner :P (yaa, I am an idiot who misunderstood between Anne and Annie )
Thank Godji Annie replied, and I was able to see my mistake :D
Happy reading everyone :)

Hi, Katelin! Nice connecting with you. You've got some great titles on your bookshelves, wow.
I'm going to start by picking up 'Sometimes I Lie' by Alice Feeney from my library & then I'd like to gone on to 'Speak: The Graphic Novel' as I plan on giving talks on child/teen sexual abuse for the school board later this year. After that, I'm going to venture into new territory & read 'Three Dark Crowns.' Time to branch out!
Looking forward to getting to know you better & wishing you an adventurous & delightful 2020.

I loved the worldbuilding - the 4 Londons (red, black, gray, white) with varying degrees of magic was very unique. I loved the dynamics between the MC's Kelle and Delilah - she's a real firecracker! All of the magic stuff was really well done! I listened to this straight through! I'm between 4 and 4.5 stars!
I cannot wait to start book two now!!

I finished reading" letting go of gravity" and I missed the book. It was very well written. Some places I felt that the effort dragged a little with irrelevant information but other than that it was great.
I hope you are enjoying the book thief . It was a little slow for me in the begining but it will pick up eventually.

Hey Annie,

Hello Neha,
Personally, I would recommend Lord of The Flies as I really enjoyed it, bear in mind I read it 6 years ago. However, I prefered Animal Farm over 1984. Hope that helps!
I have decided to go with If Beale Street Could Talk, as it has been on my reading list for a while :)

Hi, Katelin,
I'm picking up 'Sometimes I Lie' by Alice Feeney today from my library (LOVE libraries!) & look forward to a great weekend of reading & hot tea & puzzle solving with our youngest.
Cheers for a lovely weekend for you & yours!

Hi, Katelin,
I'm pickin..."
Sounds fantastic! I really love that book! I actually just purchased a copy of it to own recently. I also got Copycat by Alex Lake on the way to me now! I should have it to read by Sunday~
I hope you have a fantastic weekend!

If there isn't someone else waiting for a pairing, I'd be happy to do it. My partner seems to have disappeared anyway ;)

I've finished A Natural History of Dragons, and given it: ★★★★★
That makes two books from Keeley's Read Shelf that I had not previously heard of, that I thoroughly enjoyed - thanks, Keeley!
Hi Pallavi!
I recently finished The Book Thief, and it was okay. I'd rate it 2.5 stars. I guess the plot just didn't do it for me. And the characters seemed generic to me.

Both books you chose from Keeley's shelf sound really good, Amber! I think I'm going to have to copy your copycat and read both of those too - hehehe

Of course! Join either Amber or me and pick your read :) Whoever you choose will read from your shelf too :)

I agree with you I could not wrap my head around the fact that death was the narrator and at times it was very depressing.

Perfect! lol And maybe I'll just go ahead and copy yours with A Darker Shade of Magic (that's been in my To Read pile forever too!)

Ah, sorry! But I'm glad it worked out :D

I'm glad you enjoyed it! I can't wait to get my hands on the third book in the series (it hasn't been translated into Estonian yet and it would bother me awfully to have the first two books in Estonian and the last one in English), so hopefully I can do that soon!
I finished Throne of Glass today and... it's popular alright. I really liked the idea of the story and most of the story itself, but the main character! I think she could've been written so much better. I mean, what kind of best assassin doesn't wake up when people enter her room? She was so much talk and so little action, so I'm a bit conflicted on whether I enjoyed it or not. I'm definitely happy that I gave it a try, but it seems that Maas doesn't really write books that are my cup of tea.
Sign up period: Until January 1st
Partner pairings announced: January 2nd (announced in this thread)
SUMMARY:
In this challenge, participants are paired up to choose and read a book from their partner's read shelf and compare how they each rated the book. It's a fun way to discover new books, to read from different genre(s), and to make PenPal connections. This challenge repeats monthly, and you sign-up separately for each month you wish to participate.
COMPLETING THE CHALLENGE
- Week 1: Review your paired partner's 'Read shelf' and choose a book(s) to read. Post to this thread to update your partner on the book chosen. (You can ask them for suggestions too!)
- Week 1-4: Begin reading, and post any updates/thoughts as you read.
- Week 3-4: Complete your read, and post to the thread with final thoughts on the book and comparing how you and your partner each rated the book.
Participation = Post to thread (book choice), Read book, Post to thread (finished book thoughts)
NOTE:
- Please only sign-up if you are confident you have time to choose and read a book. If you are no longer able to participate after signing up, message a Mod or update this thread, so we can re-match, and no-one is left without a partner for the month!
- Remember to re-visit this thread on January 2 to see who you have been paired up with for the month (adding a calendar reminder helps!)
