Did you read Mistborn era 2? The Rithmatist and Skyward/Starsight are really good too. I'm currently 100 pages into Elantris and that's pretty good so far.
Since no one has brought it up I'll mention The Reckoners Trilogy.
As well as Legion: The Many Lives of Stephen Leeds.
You didn't like Warbreaker? Is it even possible?
To be fair I personally haven't been able to finish the novel and I only wanna push myself through it because it connects to Stormlight.

I'm currently reading Skyward and I have the same problem with it. I'm trying to keep going and like it.
I prefer non-modern settings in fantasy as well. My favorite settings for fantasy is a whole new world like in Stormlight, Era 1 and Elantris. I did only read Alloy Of Law but I liked it, it was nice to have the same magic but I didn't like it as much as era 1. I do plan on rereading era 1 and reading era 2 next year. Brandon's writing is just so good I've liked 99% of his books I've read.

To be honest... It seems that Brandon is not your story.
Warbreaker is really excellent and quite original story. Skyward is completely different writing as it's Sci-Fi but it's really good. Additionally your "I don't like an idea" attitude doesn't make it easier.
Try to read something else and then get back to Brandon Sanderson. Forcing yourself into reading something that you don't like is purely stupid.
I'm not a big fan of Sanderson's YA novels. So far I'm only partially into Steelheart but feel he's being more than a little patronizing with his word choices and dialogue. He's actually "trying" to make it easier to read rather than writing naturally, maybe even over-editing to simplify. Steelheart is a conundrum. It's written for children, not YA, but some scenes are definitely not suitable. He went too far. I haven't read The Rithmatist or Skyward yet so I can't compare them yet to Steelheart. However, it's also possible the writing tightens up and it's just the first few chapters that are unbalanced for YA. It's similar to The Flash TV show where there are metas as a result of a catastrophe, except in Sanderson's world, there are no "good" metas like Flash to fight them.
I think the Reckoners series is ok, but Skyward is something else, found myself giving it 5 stars... I’m rereading WoK in antispation of RoW. WoR next, hey initials are mirrored... must be some Vorin influence 😉
I unfortunately haven’t been able to read much of skyward yet, however I have read the Reckoners series. I think Stealheart and Firfight are good, but Mitosis and Calamjty were slightly worse. The Rithmatist might be my favorite non cosmere book though. It is a very detailed magic system with a well thought plot.
The Rithmatist is one my most favorites ever.

I've read the Mistborn series and the stormlight archive and I loved them both. I loved them sincerely.
But then I read warbreaker and I didn't like it. Which BS book should I read next?
