Facebook makes it very difficult to getthe word out.

I have been doing the rounds on Facebook for some time now, and sometimes it seems near impossible for me to get the word out about my book series.
I have a substantial amount of followers who are supposed to see what I post, however I am lucky if 10 people get updates. I don’t want to pay for promotion because it’s a waste of money. Facebook employ click farms which means they pay people to click on like.
I also have a Facebook page but find it impossible to get new likes. Again using the promotion feature doesn’t help because you not getting real likes.
Is there any way to combat this and has anyone else had the same experiences?

Do you manage your own newsletter? It's a more direct way to reach your followers.

No, I have been meaning to compile an e-mail list an do monthly updates. Thanks for the suggestion A.W

I used my book page to know how many people the postings has "reached". Normally postings about celebrities would get more "reached" compare to a post about books.
