What series are you reading?
I finished Dirty Secrets by Karen Rose, Romantic Suspense #4.5, and this short story read like a big book. Here's my review.
I'm now reading What Remains of Heaven by C.S. Harris, Sebastian St. Cyr #5, my new favorite series.

I just finished
. I'm sad to say that for me this was the weakest book in the series so far. I guessed the who right away but not the why. The mystery was interesting, but Tess and Aiden together were blah. I'll say more next month.

Another good one. Some extraordinary scenes you're gonna want to talk about.

That statement peeks my interest. Will you lend an ear if I need to?
I just finished listening to The Torment of Others by Val McDermid, Tony Hill/Carol Jordan #4, and loved it! It was great getting back to the series. Here's my review.
I'm now listening to Trunk Music by Michael Connelly, Harry Bosch #5, and I'm so glad to be back to this series!

I'm 38% and now I can safely guess what you meant. I'm not a fan of the books that spend too much time in her past. I hope it won't be too difficult to read.

Welcome Ellie! I have just seen that you live in Ipswich, Australia. My mum lives in Ipswich :-) I moved from Australia to the UK over 17 years ago.

:-). The same thing happened to me to Ellie. :-)
This is a great group for finding awesome books.

I stopped last night at 44% last night and won't be able to read more until later today. I have a bunch of errands/chores and work to do so I'll be listening to my audiobook most of the day today.
I finished What Remains of Heaven by C.S. Harris, Sebastian St. Cyr #5, and my head's still spinning! Here's my review.
I'm now reading A Necessary Evil by Alex Kava, Maggie O'Dell #5.

There was a lot to think about with book # 5. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I actually had to make a list of the twists and revelations.

Not a series but I finished
. Very intriguing mystery, which I was sucked into right away. I gave it 4 1/2 stars.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!!
I finished The Black Echo
, my first experience with Harry Bosch. Is this the first book? GR says it is but the repeated mentions of the Dollmaker case make me wonder if there's a short story prequel or something out there. Anyway, I really enjoyed it and like Harry as a character. I could have done without the romance aspect of it but I guess it ended up having a purpose. I'd like to get a few more books in the series under my belt and then check out the tv show - though the first episode doesn't seem to be about the plot of this book. But I like the actor who plays Harry.

Yes, this is the first book and it's Connelly's style to reference earlier stuff that he later revisits. SO glad you liked it!

Well, shoot. The Dollmaker case sounds really interesting. I wanted to read more about it! But if he revisits it later, after the fact, then I guess that'll have to do. lolI hope to catch up to the series group read but this was such a densely plotted book - in the best way - that I don't know if I'll be able to manage it. These are thinking books!
They are definitely densely plotted, some of them with so many red herrings you have to keep your wits about you. The stories are the most excellent procedurals and you will sometimes think you've missed something before Connelly comes back and delivers the backstory.
I'm wild about Harry and am listening to the series.

Veronica, the first season of the Bosch TV show is based on book #3, #8 and #12. I've decided to wait until I've read up till book #12 before continuing with the show.
Thanks for the info, Lauren. That seems to skip around quite a bit. Are the plots for those particular books tied together?Did you like the show, what you saw of it anyway?

I love the narrator, Dick Hill. He IS Harry.

I may have to give it a go. I have a tendency to go back and look things up as I'm reading Harry Bosch. I may have to check out both types so I can look things up if I need to.
Jonetta, My library shows Len Cariou as the narrator for Harry Bosch. At least the next book in line for me.

*sniff* I love Dick's interpretation of Harry.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I know how it is to get attached to a narrator. Once you've put a voice to a series, it's impossible to convince yourself anyone else can do. It looks like Len narrates a handful and then a different narrator toward the end of the series.
Well, looks like the book I'm listening to is Dick Hill's last. I went through the rest of the series and Len and Peter Giles narrate the series until the last three. The really great news is Titus Welliver, the actor portraying Harry in the series, narrates the last two books and probably all going forward. I LOVE his voice.
I listened to samples of Len and Peter and both have good, sort of gritty voices that seem to work. Titus is exceptional and feels like Harry.
I'm going to miss Dick Hill but I'm glad to learn this now before I load the next one and get surprised. I'll just savor this last one:)

It's why I've dragged my feet returning to the series. The stories are tough!
