Though I have all of the books in the series, I didn't have King & Maxwell on my series list in this group. I'm glad we read it as I enjoyed it, too.

I thought I had some of these books in my TBR pile, but I can't find them. Looks like I'll have to try to pick them up on paperbackswap or a library sale.

The House on Tradd Street (Tradd Street, #1) by Karen White is amazing. I'm putting off reading the last book in the series because I don't want it to end. The author said she is writing another so I may wait until that one is out and read them both together.

I really enjoyed Baldacci's Memory Man and would like to try more of his books. I may have to read that one! I am so behind on the Fatal series :(

How did you find out that the other series is connected? I'm not really seeing that when reading the description of the book. Just curious. I have some of these will get to them someday.

I switched from reading The House on Tradd Street to listening.

I have no idea yet why the title is so named, and it's a very grim story about young teens involved in some kind of abuse. Disturbing and engrossing.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 656 comments I finished Kisscut (Grant County, #2) by Karin Slaughter , the second in the Grant County series.

It was a tough read for me; I was disappointed by our main characters [Sara, Jeffrey & Lena], and the subject matter made a lot of discomfort arise as I waded through the breadth and depth of depravity and victimization in this one. I gave it four stars, but couldn't bring myself to review it.

This series is definitely not for readers who want likable characters. All of them rub me the wrong way for different reasons but the stories are so engrossing that it makes it worthwhile.

message 2389: by Charlene (new)

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 656 comments I agree with you, Lauren. At least the main (continuing) characters are flawed and not portrayed as superhuman, which is for another kind of read. I'm sticking with this series.

Monica | 860 comments I finished Night Broken (book 8 Mercy Thompson) by Patricia Briggs and it was so good. On one hand I'm mad I waited so long to get to it because of my worries about Adam's ex-wife. And on the other, I'm glad I waited. Fair Game from the Alpha and Omega series should be read before Night Broken, just so you're all caught up with what's going on in Mercy and Anna's world and don't feel like you're missing anything.

I also finished The House on Tradd Street (book 1 Tradd Street) by Karen White and I really enjoyed it. This is the first time I've liked a book as much as I did this one and not really connected to the main character. Melanie is a hard one, but she did grow on me a bit. I had no trouble with Jack or Melanie's dad though. I'm looking forward to the rest of this series.

That's a sign of great writing when you can enjoy the story despite connecting with the characters.

I finished listening to Undone by Karin Slaughter, Will Trent #3, and again was emotionally all over the place. Review to come.

I also finished Run from Fear by Jami Alden, Dead Wrong Trilogy #3, and while I enjoyed it, got a bit weary from the heroine's eternal angst. (Discussion questions are now posted!)

I'm now reading Stars of Fortune by Nora Roberts, The Guardians Trilogy #1. I got an advance copy through First Reads (my first one in two years of requests). Off to a good start.

I'm also listening to Me Before You by Jojo Moyes and loving the multiple narrators.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 656 comments I finished the third Karin Slaughter book, A Faint Cold Fear (Grant County, #3) by Karin Slaughter .

This book really got to me, as well as the others in this series. The characters are quite complex and not always easy to like (understatement, perhaps). I now MUST read the next volume to see what Lena does, as well as Sara and Jeffrey.
