Julie James' series morphed into contemporary romance after the second book. I still enjoy the series but it's not romantic suspense.

Yeah, I was definitely disappointed by that change, though I did enjoy it, just not some aspects of the plot. At least I know going into the next one what to expect! :)

I was disappointed in the change as well and it put a damper on the rest of the series for me because I had certain expectations as a result of the first two books.

Kris (My Novelesque Life) (mynovelesquelife) | 2447 comments I finished listening New York to Dallas by JD Robb and loved it. It was an intense book! I also listened to the novella, Chaos in Death which was not a favourite for me.

I am now listening to the third and I final in Julia London's Pine River trilogy, The Perfect Homecoming. Heads up the hero in this novel
works for Thrillseeker Anonymous which is a previous series by London. I have not read the TA series.

I agree with you all. I was very disappointed in the last few books. I'd rate them a B to B+ in the com rom category.

I'm reading Sugar on Top (Sugar, Georgia, #2) by Marina Adair . Marina Adair writes the best stories about small town life. I'm always smiling at the antics.

D.G. I guess because I've always known Julie James as a contemporary romance writer, I never saw those first two books in that series as RS. The RS was too mild, I thought.

I thought the first book was squarely romantic suspense, the second book...not so much.

I agree. The first book was very definitely RS and as I'd never read any of her books before, it established my expectations.

lorii (Loriidae) I agree Lauren, I was surprised that the rest of the Julie James series was more contemporary romance. A great series but I wouldn't mark it as RS.

lorii (Loriidae) I have just finished my binge read of the fatal series by Marie Force and on the whole really enjoyed them. I was disappointed in the direction of the sex scenes in #5 Fatal Deception For me it wasn't necessary, and this far into the series, really came out of left field. There were so many other things happening that showed their evolving relationship.
My favourite was #7 Fatal Jeopardy.

I just finished the binge read, too, and am already missing them. Do you want to have a discussion about them overall? I can set up an informal discussion topic for them if you're interested.

Let me know.

Melissa (melissasd) | 1610 comments I finished reading The Staff of Serapis by Rick Riordan, 4 ★. This is a short ebook (59 pages) that combines 2 of Rick Riordan's series. This one features Annabeth Chase from the Percy Jackson series and Sadie Kane from The Kane Chronicles. The author did a really good job combining the 2 series into one story. I like the mix of Greek and Egyptian mythology. Book 3, The Crown of Ptolemy, comes out on May 12th and I'm looking forward to it.

I'm now reading Last Words by Stacy Green, Delta Detectives #4.

Monica | 860 comments I have been on a sports-themed NA rampage lately. I can't get enough of it. Even if the stories are all blurring together at this point, I am having fun.

I finished The Shameless Hour (The Ivy Years #4) by Sarina Bowen and loved it. I'm all caught up with this series now.

Now I am reading The Mistake book #2 in the Off-Campus series by Elle Kennedy. And oh boy, I love this series. This author writes top-notch NA.

I also finished listening to Every Which Way But Dead by Kim Harrison, The Hollows #3. Despite it being rather long it still was interesting. Here's my review and I'll post discussion topics by tomorrow.

I'm now reading Bringing Home the Bad Boy by Jessica Lemmon, Second Chances #1, and listening to Hooked by Tiffinie Helmer, Romance on the Edge #2.

D.G. Congratulate me! I've read three #2 in a series this past week:
The Mistake (Off-Campus, #2) by Elle Kennedy and unlike the rest of the world, I didn't like it as much as the first booki. I don't like double standards or books where one character is portrayed as always being right and the other one is portrayed as always being wrong.
Paladin of Souls (Chalion, #2) by Lois McMaster Bujold - awesome, awesome! Don't know why I waited this long to read this book. Such a complex story
Throne of Jade (Temeraire, #2) by Naomi Novik - really good sequel. Definitely continuing the series.

I wasn't clear on the how Bones managed the whole thing either.

I just finished the book and don't want to give anything away. I liked the way the whole Katie problem was resolved. I guess it was a good way to wind up Cat & Bones story. It wasn't my favorite in the series, but it had a satisfying ending.

I still have the last Vlad book ahead of me. And, I would love if she would write books for Ian and Tate.
