One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus - January 2020
I've got it right now from the library to read once I finish the books I'm reading now 😂 Super excited to start!

I'm new to thrillers and I fairly enjoyed it; the ending did surprise me. However,[spoiler?] I don't think the romance was developed that well but it is better than a lot of YA books. I'd give it a 3.5 I'd recommend it as an introduction to YA mystery/thriller.

I agree there are much better romances out there but for a YA book I was impressed. I have given too many YA books low ratings this year because I couldn't stand the immediate romance with no story to it.

True with the shifting perspectives it does get hard to properly develop a romance the author did a pretty good job. You seem to be well versed in the thriller/mystery genre what book would you recommend?

The Girl on the Train is one of my favorites.

Yes, there was a book I read last year that seemed like exactly the same thing, just different details.

If her chapters are as short as they were in Two Can Keep a Secret then that isn't too long, but still! That was a long time coming, wow.
I'm going to start this today and hopefully I don't have to wait as long as you in order to get invested in the characters. *teeny bit worried*

Thanks I'll order it ASAP ^-^

Did you check libby for an audiobook? My library had a crazy wait for the physical book but I got the audiobook immediately.

The eBook has five holds, and any audiobook (physical or electronic) have more holds than that. Our library system has very few copies of this, and I'm guessing that since the second book just came out, it's become a hot book for the moment. That's fine though!

Has anyone read anything else from this author? I'd definitely give them another read if this what most of their work looks like.

Looking forward to book 2

This is the kind of book where I'm trying just to focus on what the characters are doing, how they're developing rather than trying to figure out who the murderer is. I just enjoy being taken along for the ride.
Nate was my favourite character of the bunch, with Addy a close second, though that took a while.

Agreed. I think (view spoiler) . It works, but it can feel a little clunky.

Haha. I love that!

I definitely agree that it's fun!

The Breakfast Club meets Pretty Little Liars, One of Us Is Lying is the story of what happens when five strangers walk into detention and only four walk out alive. Everyone is a suspect, and everyone has something to hide.
Pay close attention and you might solve this.
On Monday afternoon, five students at Bayview High walk into detention.
Bronwyn, the brain, is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule.
Addy, the beauty, is the picture-perfect homecoming princess.
Nate, the criminal, is already on probation for dealing.
Cooper, the athlete, is the all-star baseball pitcher.
And Simon, the outcast, is the creator of Bayview High's notorious gossip app.
Only, Simon never makes it out of that classroom. Before the end of detention, Simon's dead. And according to investigators, his death wasn't an accident. On Monday, he died. But on Tuesday, he'd planned to post juicy reveals about all four of his high-profile classmates, which makes all four of them suspects in his murder. Or are they the perfect patsies for a killer who's still on the loose?
Everyone has secrets, right? What really matters is how far you would go to protect them.
