Kimberly Fabian | 1 comments I read this book as a kid, but I really can't remember what it was called. I do remember it was a series, and I think there were 3 in the series.

The first one started off in a tow, and I think thne most important part of the town was some sort of large wooden tower structure. I'm pretty sure this large, wooden tower structure was on the illustrated cover of the book, and that it was somehow involved in the title of the first book. For some reason, the words singing, key, and tower come to mind.

The people in the town were segregated by a caste system, that may have been based around color.

The main character was a girl, and one of the only scenes I really remember involved her being at school. One of her classmates had a name that started with M, and he some form of mental disability. At one point, she was not obeying her teacher, and the teacher threatened her that if she didn't follow the rules, she might end up married to the M boy, which horrified our main character.

Later though, the girl (and I think her brother?) and the M boy went on some sort of adventure together. I feel like they were trying to find a man, maybe a magician? They had to journey a long way and it was quite dangerous. The girl ended up being really good friends with the M boy, who wasn't as dumb as everyone had thought he was.

I don't really remember what happened in the other books of the series, but I think one of them may have involved a labyrinth, and some sort of tribe of people that paired men and women up via a dance ritual.

I know this is all very nebulous, but trying to figure out what book this is has been driving me crazy for a very long time. Any response would be really appreciated!

Shanna_redwind | 852 comments Is your book The Wind Singer? There's not much in the description, but there's some descriptions in the reviews.

Emily (emilisipher) | 21 comments I was also going to suggest The Wind Singer, it's been quite a few years since I read it, but your description definitely rings bells with my recollection of it.
