Sky | 1291 comments I've lost track of exactly what's been happening when, but I gotta say, I teared up a little when Gavin/Dazen told the truth to Karris and they got married. Liking book two more than book 1 for sure. Had tons of other comments but since I've lost track of what happened when I guess I'll save it for when I finish the book and discuss in the final chapters.

After being very angry about the whole murder thing, he basically blew it off like it was nothing with his guards lying. So what was the point? It makes an already stupid plot twist even moreso.

Or was the idea to put him in the mindset to kill his brother? After first planning to free him and let himself be killed.

I don't really get it.

I'm glad Gavin got hitched too.

Overall, I agree this book is much better, but he keeps doing stupid things, including a lot of juvenille wish fufillment stuff that keeps getting in the way of me enjoying it completely.

Sky | 1291 comments Yeah, the whole section was rather strange with the killing of the girl, wanting his brother to kill him and then killing his brother instead.

Perhaps Mr. Weeks was looking for a plot device to make Gavin finally take action and tell the truth to Karris, and the whole murder/suicide/murder was that device.

If his brother is actually dead just like that, it's pretty anti-climatic after all that elaborate prison stuff..

Linette | 135 comments I agree, Rob - after all those prisoner scenes, he's just suddenly dead. What's happening with the body?

Wondering if Marissia is going to be able to stay loyal to Gavin now he's married Karris...she knows an awful lot of secrets.

Now there are two special decks floating around, with Andross Guile's deck. Somehow, I doubt that is an ordinary deck.

interesting part with Ironfist, thinking he had to cut and run because of something he had done...I wonder what. Wonder if we'll ever see more of his brother, too.

I also don't see the point of the scene with Ana going over the balcony and dying...except maybe that two brand new Blackguards now have something to hold over Gavin's head? Maybe?

So Andross would really go so far as to arrange the assassination attempt on Kip, and the beating for Karris? Taking family manipulation pretty far.

Yeah, Andross is too over the top for me. For the most part he's my ideal bad guy. The guy whose not necessarily evil, but just willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish goals.

But then what exactly are his goals. The White seemed to think he wants power for power's sake, and wouldn't know what to do with himself if he had complete power. And to me that kind of goal is boring.
