Dawn | 44 comments Hello everyone! So my lovely husband accidently got a virus on my laptop that completely crashed my hard drive of my computer and now I am internet-less for awhile:( Luckily I can rent laptops at my college for over the weekends and plan on coping down the tasks on paper and posting the completed tasks when we get my computer back up and running:)

message 154: by Tara (new)

Tara That sucks Dawn. Hopefully you get your computer up and running soon. :)

Jen B (jennybee618) Finally on the board!

5.2 Authors of the Month: I read One Year to an Organized Life From Your Closets to Your Finances, the Week by Week Guide to Getting Completely Organized for Good by Regina Leeds (book title starts with "O"). Yes, it's a self-help book...but I read it cover to cover, and got some decently useful information from it. If only my chaotic house would clean itself!

Total points: 5
Total books read: 2

Nadia A (bagambo) Task Completed:

25.3 Feel Young Again
I read The Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith -
The Awakening
The Struggle
The Fury
Dark Reunion
(and they are such silly reads that you can just fly right through them - definitely more fun to read when I was a kid)

Total Points: 40

Melanie (mcipher) | 372 comments Two books down - I completed task 5.2 - Author(s) of the Month (Tara’s Task): Her Fearful Symmetry - Audrey Niffenegger
I changed this one from what I originally planned because I absolutely had to read this one once I got my hands on it!

Up to ten points now! :)

Nadia, did you read 4 books for that task? It actually only requires three, so it looks like you have an extra...do you want to count the last (or first) book for another task?

Melanie, how did you like Her Fearful Symmetry? My library's waiting list is really long for that one...I think it'll be awhile before I get it!

I'm on the waiting list at the library for this book! It is due 10/23 but I don't know if that means I am first in line and will get it then? (there are several copies). Ever since you mentioned the book, I have been thinking about it! I can't wait. Even though I have a million other books to read, I want to read this one!

You do!! It was really good - shivery creepy but not over the top, you know? I love her characters, they are so interesting!

I got lucky - my sister's boyfriend bought it for her so I borrowed her copy - otherwise I'd STILL be waiting, too! : )

message 170: by Jen B (new)

Jen B (jennybee618) I've been completely sucked in by the Gemma Doyle Trilogy that I started a couple days ago, so I had to find a way to work them all in. So I'm moving the first book I read, Confections of a Closet Master Baker, (for which I hadn't yet earned points) to count for 10.9 - Getting Paid, because she basically does what I've always dreamed of -- ditching my job to open a bakery.

So, still 2 total books finished.

Jen B (jennybee618) Apparently I'm on a roll today:

10.10 The Boy Next Door by Meg Cabot

This one was cute. Probably could've actually read it faster than listen to it, but it's a great audiobook. The narrator does a really great job of giving different voices to each character.

Jen, if you get a chance, read the second one too! (there are 3 to the series) The last one is just ok. But they are great books!

message 176: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (joelizrado) | 95 comments Ok, so I have not been very motivated to read the books of the month in my book clubs (nothing personal!!) so I am going to stick to this challenge for the next few months and try to read the books I have on my shelf (so I can buy more ;) )

Thus far I have read:
15.5 The Time Traveler's Wife 536 pages
and am currently reading Chasing Harry Winston A Novel for 10.9 I would love to be an editor!!

This challenge is really helping though, because I get to read books that I want to read. Hope you like Chasing Harry Winston- that was a fun read!

It was cute; a little predictable and there were some phrases that got repeated a lot that annoyed me (I am weird like that), but I liked the secondary characters a lot and the whole small town was neat. I would read more of her stuff, definitely!

I agree...at this point the 10 of us have already read over 30 books, and we're not even a month in!

message 190: by Nadia (new)

Nadia A (bagambo) Hi Kristine! Well, I picked that book for that task because I've always wanted to be a prof teaching English Lit and that is precisely what Laura was in the book (although I wouldn't have chosen Dante as my topic). Anyhow, with regards to the book, I have to admit that I am a bit mixed about it. I'm not sure if I really liked it or not - there were some parts that were good and others that didn't hold my interest. I wouldn't recommend this one. I feel like Picoult's books are hit or miss.

message 191: by Kristine (new)

Kristine (kc0217) | 335 comments This was my least favorite Picoult book. Her other's are much better. I just couldn't get into the book much.

message 192: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (diva2416) | 819 comments Same here, the whole last half of the book bored me. I did see the movie version lifetime did, and it was actually slightly better than the book because they did cut that whole 2nd half out.

message 193: by Nadia (new)

Nadia A (bagambo) I saw the movie on Lifetime too - that is why I thought the book might be good to read. Oh well.

I don't think I have The Tenth Circle, amazingly, as I have a bunch of her others.
Sounds like that's one I'll have to pass on. Thanks for sharing your opinions ladies!!!

Tara I happened to like the Tenth Circle. Surprisingly.....I watched the movie and it wasn't even close to being as good as the book.

This book cracked me up. Definitely recommend it, especially if you are a fan of the original.
