It'll be like in Northanger Abbey when Catherine read it with her friend and always told everyone about how exciting and absolutely horrifying this book is :)

Hi.
I've never heard of Dacre's book, but it looks very interesting, so count me in if you really want to start reading it.
I've read Genji, and I can recommend it to anyone. I don't think it will take you so much time, though, if you like psychology. I read it in two weeks, even though it doesn't have very much of a plot. What it says about society and the human soul is fascinating.
Last year I got a bilingual copy of Les Cinq Livres des faits et dits de Gargantua et Pantagruel by François Rabelais. It's printed in both five-hundred-year-old French and modern French. I started reading it, but gave up after a few pages, because of the difficult vocabulary. (I'm Hungarian; English is my first foreign language; I started learning French as an adult.) In 2020 I'd like to get to the end. It might take a very long time, several months I think, but I want to do it. Is there anyone who wants to join me? You can also read Rabelais in any other language. :) Or you can even say you only want to read one book or two books of the five, why not? I'm fine with all such possiblities. Just don't leave me alone please. :)

Hi! I'm also planning on reading Pride and Prejudice next year! My book is already ready to be opened. Count me in for the buddy read if it happens! 😊
I think there are a few people interested in reading The Brothers Karamazov so we should make a thread.

That would be so niceee!!! Do you think we should make a thread?
For anyone interested in reading The Tale of Genji, I opened a thread. I'm went ahead with the 5 chapters a month schedule just to keep it low pressure. And people can feel free to join in months later and play catch up pretty quickly if they want.Timár_Krisztina wrote: "Marissa wrote: "Here are some of the classics I was thinking of reading this year. I had not heard of Zofloya: or The Moor either until I came across it on youtube. I don't remember whose channel it was who read it off the top of my head. I do want to read it this year. I'm probably going to wait until later in the year to read it though. I have a lot of reading planned for January already. Is there a month you may want to read it in?

For me, everything comes after that, and it will take a long time. For you, I guess Genji will be the priority, which is about the same in length. So why not start Zofloya after both of us have finished? Some time around June or July?
Brenda wrote: "Anyone up for Dickens' The Pickwick Papers, The Trumpet Major by Hardy or The Prime Minister by Trollope?"I’m interested in The Trumpet Major as I’m slowly working through all of Hardy.

Does anyone want to read Middlemarch or The Picture of Dorian Gray with me? January or February, maybe?
Adriana wrote: "ANYONE UP FOR AN ANNE BRONTË BUDDY READ?"I could be interested in reading Agnes Grey? That's not super long and I've already read The Tenant of Wildfell Hall :)
I just found Wuthering heights in a thrift store a couple days ago! Buddy reading it would be great!

- Wives and Daughters, E. Gaskell
- The Woodlanders, T. Hardy
Let me know if you'd like to join! x
I would love to buddy read Dracula, Emma, maybe some Virginia Woolf, Charles Dickens and a book from the Bronte's, I only read Jane Eyre.
there are several comments here for Anna Karenina and I just bought a copy today, planning to start January 1! (although it may take me more than 4 weeks)

Ooh I've been wanting to read 1984 for a while now! If you and maybe some others are up for a buddy read, let me know :)
When should we read Little women? I’m still waiting to get it from my library I’m 7th in line on the holds, so it might take awhile
Should I open a tab thing for it... because I’m a bit nervous too (mostly because I don’t have the book yet)
Christina wrote: "Does anyone want to read Middlemarch or The Picture of Dorian Gray with me? January or February, maybe?"I've been meaning to tackle Middlemarch for a while now, so I'm definitely game.
Would anyone be interested in buddy reading any of the following books? Wives and daughters - Elizabeth Gaskell
Moby Dick - Herman Melville (I LOVE his shorter works because he’s HILARIOUS but I’ve been scared to start Moby Dick because... well... it’s Moby Dick
The Way We Live Now - Antony Trollope
Lemme know

I'm up for The Grapes of Wrath. East of Eden is one of my favourite books of all time and I really liked Of Mice & Men. It's been a while since I've read Steinbeck so I'm definitely looking forward to revisiting his work this year
@Brenda and @Lindy, does starting The Trumpet Major in February or March work? If not, I'm not opposed to starting it now for this month's read.
