Jarrett Joesph Krosoczka grew up as your average kid. Between spoonfuls of sugary cereal and bathtime, he had a lovely childhood. But at 3 years old, that childhood wonder vanished. His mom got caught stealing in a retail store, and he turned around in his seat when he got in the car, even though his mom told him not to, so he was brought to the police station for questioning. She was exposed for being a heroin addict. His dad left before he was born, so he was forced to live with his grandparents, who argued and fought a lot. Should any child know something this traumatic is happening at such a young age?

At 3 years old, this seems very tough to comprehend for Jarrett. This makes me wonder if the book reveals his notions, if he had any at such a young age. Such as; Did Jarrett know stealing was wrong? Did he purposely expose his mother, or did he answer the police truthfully, not knowing what consequences would arise for his mother? Although this book does not seem like an easy or light read, it seems captivating and I think I would read this as more of a challenge.

This book seems so tragic and I would love to read it and find out what will happen to poor Jarrett. Very Interesting.

Wow! I would not want to Jarrett. His life seems very tough, and it doesn't really sound like he'll be getting a happy ending. I don't really think that Jarrett would really understand what was going on at that age. Plus, how would he know that his mom was actually stealing? Three-year-olds are usually completely oblivious to the world around them. I also don't understand how turning around in your car seat can result in an interrogation at the police station.
